I’ve watched this vlog several times as we are heading to CT this September! You should have more followers because, IMHO, you have some of the best edited and produced videos on RU-vid! Always interesting, informative, fun, beautiful and well-captured scenery! Great job!! Y’all are so much fun! Grazie! 🫶🏻
So I watched your travel vlog to Cinque Terre then I watched the Disney movie Luca. And I thought that some of the locations in the movie looked familiar...so similar to the shots you had in your vlog of the colorful buildings, pristine water, and rolling hills. Apparently the director of the movie is from the area and used Cinque Terre as inspiration for the setting of this movie!
"This was great to watch!" Besides the excellent camera work I like the information provided and the positive Vibes that You, two give off. Thank You, for the motivation and inspiration.
Schiachetrà wine (erroneously called Schiacchetrà) is a fine DOC dessert and fortified wine produced in the Cinque Terre. Schiachetrà is made from Bosco (60%), Albarola and Vermentino (40%) grape varieties. Greetings from Firenze (Florence)
My husband and I are planning a trip to CT in May. Your video is absolutely amazing and helpful !! I was trying to find a link that you were going to list where you stayed because that looks like an amazing place. Are you able to list that on here?
Melanie, thanks so much and glad you found us! We did link to it (look under "where we stayed in La Spezia" beneath the chapters), and would still 100% recommend staying in La Spezia. Very economical and super quick train rides to any of the 5 towns. Hope you'll continue on the journey with us! 👍 - Howard
Hey Sara, it was the middle of October, but like you mentioned that's a tricky time of year for weather. My advice would be to dress in layers. When the sun's out, or if on a hike, you'll appreciate having a lighter layer. At night, it does get chilly enough for a light jacket. Hope that helps and let us know how your trip goes! 👍 -Howard
Just stumbled upon your videos and wanted to stop by and say that your videos are amazing! They are so fun and informative. And you guys are just the cutest!
Camera work here is stunning. I just checked your Amazon page on gear. Clearly you didn't shoot this on just the Pixel 4 and GoPro Hero 7. What's your main camera these days? (I can't wait to go back to Cinque Terre!)
Actually, we DID shoot this with only a Pixel 4 and a GoPro (though we've updated to a 10 with MediaMod and still use our wireless mics). 😎 Thanks for all the kind words, always happy to answer tech questions about our episodes! 👍 -Howard
We chose Sarzana as a base to visit the Cinque Terre and it was a fantastic choice. Walking in the evening between concerts and vintage markets was so nice and fortunately not very touristy. We recommend it
Excellent video you guys a very likable . we are going in May and are so psyched. Do you guys drone at all because I heard drones aren't permitted in cinque terra
Thanks so much and glad our episode was helpful for your planning! May is a busier time, but I have no doubt it's going to be a great time. Like many places, flying a drone in Cinque Terra (an Italian National Park) is forbidden unless you receive specific permission and a permit from the governing agency. If you are looking to do so, I will forewarn that it isn't an easy, fast, or cheap option so you might want to skip it and fly elsewhere. However, flying a drone in Italy can be straightforward depending on whether you are flying recreationally or for commercial purposes in most areas of the country. Here's a helpful link to more info on drone regulations in Italy: www.drone-made.com/post/italy-drone-laws
Hi Michel! Thanks so much for watching our video, so glad we helped you take a trip down memory lane. It's definitely one of our favorite places in Italy!
Hi, what a good vibe! I really enjoyed you channel :) but, oh boy do you need to learn italian pronunciation, you do mistakes in every italian word. 😊 but other than that, what a great channel! Good luck🙂
WOW! Such INCREDIBLE Views! The Colors! The Food! Should I be blessed with a return Trip to Italy, this Tour is on the Bucket List! Thank you for sharing 🙏❤️
We’ve been considering visiting Cinque Terre on our next trip! Thank you for this fun and informative vlog!! I love how you tell us all the details about how to get places, costs, etc. I’m OUR travel agent and always looking for the best deals! SO glad I found your channel! :)
With all due respect to you for this and all of your other great videos, it drove me crazy to hear you mispronounce the name of Corniglia. When there is a G followed by an L in Italian, the G is silent much in the same way as in the Italian word famiglia.
No offense taken, as you know, we don't speak Italian and appreciate you educating us! 😊 In my research and while there, I heard it pronounced many times with the G. But thank you for letting me know!
Really? Must you be so critical? I loved this video and I can easily overlook any mispronounced Italian. So silly to post such a rude comment on such a terrific video. Im grateful for this tour of Cinque Terra - traveling for the first time to Italy in October, and I hope the Italians are kind to me when I try to speak their language.
@@bethannechapin9920 The Italiani will be most kind as they always are when foreigners attempt to speak their language. It's the willingness to try that counts and and they will appreciate the show of respect for their language that the attempt shows. In my experience they will often politely correct a mispronounced word and teach you the correct way to say a word. I also loved the video but the mispronouncing of the town name did kinda drive me nuts. 🙂My criticism was not meant to be rude but rather meant in the spirit of constructive criticism.
I have also heard that the Italian word “Cinque” sounds like “sink” in English. Is that correct? Good tip on staying in La Spezia to get better prices!
@@jodiehebert8285 the correct pronunciation of Cinque is "chinkway". There are several good RU-vid channels to help you with your pronunciation of Italian words as well as how to say some of the basic words and phrases that will make your visit easier. In my personal opinion, I think that one should learn a few words in the native language of any country one visits. Among those would be, please, thank you, good morning, good evening, where is..., and how much. In my experience traveling and living in European countries, the local people really appreciate the attempts of American tourists to at least try to learn some of the local language and the respect for their culture that it demonstrates.
So beautiful! Definitely have to get back to Italy and explore the Cinque Terra. I’ve heard food sensitivities being better in other countries from numerous people various places. It is always gelato time! 🍨
Jenny, thanks so much! It was the third week of October, but fall is certainly mild along the coast. Like we joked, bring layers! 😂 Glad you found our channel and hope you'll continue on the journey with us! 👍 -Howard
Liked your video, thanks for the great tips. My husband and I will be visiting on October 26, when in October did you go? We are worried about the rain. Thank you.
I think you'll have a great time! Everyone warns of the rain in shoulder season, but truthfully we had great weather for the majority of our time there. The benefits of lower crowds definitely outweighs possible weather, BUT be sure to check the schedule for the water taxis to see if they are still running that late in October (they are seasonal). Let us know if you have other questions and keep us posted on how your trip goes! 👍 -Howard
Oh my goodness! Such beautiful and breathtaking towns! My husband and I must visit there one day! The food looks soooo delicious! You two are definitely living the best life!! ❤️❤️💃🏻🕺
So glad I found your video! I’m gluten free here in the states and we are planning a trip to Italy in October including Cinque Terre! Good to know there are gluten free options there! 1/15/23
Beth, glad our episode is helpful for your trip! We have a link for gluten free options in Cinque Terre in the video description. You CAN have an amazing time in Italy even avoiding gluten! 👍 -Howard
Loved the video! Very informative! Thank you! I was in Cinque Terre this week (June 2022) with every other tourist post COVID and it was NOT with it. It was crowded over rated and overpriced. Don’t expect a pretty cool icy ire without tourist like in the video. It felt like the Disney world of Italy! I don’t recommend for the budgeting tourist. Bars are crowded and some were closed due to staffing. Service is terrible and they won’t sit a couple or group that is not ordering a full dinner or meal because it’s not worth the business. They want you to spend enough to make it worth their time. I’d recommend other cities in the area or northern Italy instead! Don’t mean to sound negative but I want to be real! :)
love the content, really helpful... thank you... can you tell me if you took the coastal train from Rome to la Spezia or did you take the other train? I'll be doing the same as you in October and I think the coastal train would be a pretty ride ..but I am scared to death of navigating it all.
Thanks so much and great questions! We took the more central train (it was faster/less stops), but if you have the time take the coastal. When you arrive in La Spezia, it's just a brief walk from the station into the center of town. Lots of accomodation options there, and then the train ride into Cinque Terre (from the same station) is only 10-15 minutes. The beauty of the passes we purchased was it provides unlimited train rides and shuttle busses, which makes it effortless to just hop on the next train to keep exploring the area. 👍 -Howard
Glad we were helpful! It will be hot, but the coastal winds will hopefully help some. Keep us posted on your trip and what you think of the area! 👍 -Howard
Hi Donna, here's the spot! Have a great time and let us know how your trip goes! 👍 -Howard Pizzeria Mimì e Cocò 2.0 +39 351 762 1564 maps.app.goo.gl/uymxzE9r5D84aHB28
Great info! Though might want to check your italian pronunciations when saying town names. We just got back from our stay in manarola... which was amazing. The letters "gli" in italian is pronounced as a "y" and "i" sounds like an "ee" so the name "corniglia" is pronounced as "core-neel-ee-ah" rather than "corn-nig-lee-ah" which is completely wrong. In fact, you are also pronouncing "cinque terre" wrong... "e" sounds like "ae" so rather than "tear-ah" its pronounced "tear-ae". Also just fun tid bit, Nessun Dorma does pesto making classes where the Owner Simone shares his story about the place..... it was the best experience we had and totally worth it. I would be sad for anyone to go and not experience that
October was the time of our visit in 2021 and pleased to say that the weather was PERFECT. It is a bit more of a gamble during that time, but the reward is a less crowded experience. 👍 -Howard
Heading to Italy next week and planning to visit Cinque Terre. Where did you go to get the train pass? I'm also staying in La Spezia. Thanks for the helpful video!
Happy to hear our video was helpful! Be sure to check out the rest of our Italy series, for areas on your route. The train pass was super simple to get, and the office we showed is right at the train station in La Spezia. 👍 Have a great time and please let us know what you find during your trip! -Howard
Because italy it is very rich, peoples they are full of euro,MASERATI they have the teenager s ,sorry for Spain England ,poors .Because dominium italicus
Thank you so much for the video and information! We are headed to cinque terre soon and will use so many of your tips. How did you get licensed to drone in Italy? The videos are amazing.
I’ll be on cruises that will dock in La Spezia and Genoa. I plan to visit cinque terre via train for the time allotted before ship departure. Thanks for sharing:)
Stumbled into your channel looking for tips for Cinque Terre. We are lucky planning to see it this Sept! So excited. Just subscribed! You guys are great to watch. ☺️
The streets can definitely be confusing, but the great news is these are small towns. You're never very far from a main road! 👍 Merry Christmas to you and yours! -Howard
Wow! I’ve heard of the name Cinque Terra, but had no idea what it was! Definitely a new bucket list item! I love your videos! So much great information for a person like me obsessed with researching everything about a place before I go somewhere!
After the live the other night I watched the Dodo episode on Scout. Tear jerker extraordinare. 😫💕 My favorite things from this episode Food All Day Trick question - it's always gelato time And I think we need pasta curtains for our van build. You know, just in case. 🤣 Beautiful and picturesque. It says a lot about me though that I told my husband it reminds me of Portofino Bay at Universal Studios in Orlando and not the other way around. 🙄 Thank you so much for sharing with us. Still can't believe you only had 2 small suitcases and backpacks. 😲 -Troy & Aimee
Thank you for this video. It was nice to watch this morning. I was motivated and am now planning a trip to Italy :) how many days were you in Cinque Terrer?
Just spent a few days in La Spezia and travelled to Cinque Terre over 2 days - also spent some time in Manarolo the 5th town where you can jump off the rocks to swim - the town is the least beautiful of the 5 - we hiked from Monteresso to Vernazza which took 1h 20 min and is relatively easy - we are in our early 60’s - the hike from Corniglia to Manarolo took 2h and is tough (reverse route even tougher)
Haha, oh that is definitely a tough (and subjective) question to answer. 😂 Not playing it too safe, it depends on your interests and also I believe time of year. We visited in the shoulder season, far less crowds than peak summer. If you're like us, enjoy outdoor activities in addition to exploring the towns, allow two full days. Particularly if you check out the bonus areas we mentioned. Hope you'll continue on the journey with us! 👍 -Howard
We're off to Cinque Terre tomorrow morning! I've viewed many videos of the area and this is by far my favourite. You two are naturals. Looking forward to the next video.
Thank you for this wonderful travel blog/guide! I've watched quite a few videos about Cinque Terre preparing for our own trip to the area and this is the most helpful I've seen. Great footage and tips!
For the info of peeps, being gluten intolerant is more than just having an allergy. It is very serious. Celiac Disease is an extremely serious condition and if undiagnosed is very damaging to the body. Most peeps go undiagnosed for years (some are never diagnosed) and by that time the damage is done. Having a simple blood test is recommended.
I’m gluten intolerant and have a hiking trip planned for the same area. Please tell me more about what’s safe for me to eat there. You appear to be eating all kinds of great food. Are you really gluten intolerant as well. Thanks in advance for the info.
Great question, and as you saw we broke it up into two days (including visiting the bonus towns). You could definitely see all in a day, but part of the joy is a hike between, stopping for a meal or two and meeting the locals. Hope you'll continue on the journey with us! 👍 -Howard
Great video! As someone who also made a Cinque Terre video, I have to say MANAROLA is the besttttttttt ;) Wish I woudl have hiked a section, sounds like you had an epic trip, well done!
Hi Cheryl, it's a great question. How long would you be in port? The trains are frequent and relatively fast. You might not get to all the towns, but could certainly pull off a couple and maybe a quick hike or meal even with limited time.
@@NewstateNomads We are in port from 8:30 to 8:30 so a good 10 hours giving time to get back to ship! Also are there tour guides and how much are they???
Staying in La Spezia is a common mistake. You see the great views and sights, of course, but CT local life comes alive after the tourists board their trains back to La Spezia, or wherever they're day-tripping from, usually before dinner. I recommend Vernazza. At dinner time, and particularly after sunset, it becomes much quieter, and more easily walkable, and the locals come out to play!
Maggie, great recommendations if someone wanted to stay in one of the towns of CT, and we agree that it is an ideal way to experience the culture if you can afford it! However, our recommendation for budget travel is a 30 minute train ride from La Spezia (max is 30 if riding all the way to/from Monterosso) for an excellent inexpensive alternative, and additionally, the trains run to and from La Spezia to all the CT towns 20 hours a day (trains stop at midnight, resume at 4AM March-November see below). Thanks for watching! - Howard www.cinqueterre.eu.com/images/stories/web/train-timetable/Cinque-Terre-train-timetable-2022-07-25.png
Great videos. You both have so much fun in your videos. I’m looking forward to going to Cinque Terre this September. I’ll check out that focaccia in Monterosa and will not hike Vernazza to Coniglia 😅
Great video!! HD and stable camera views with pleasant music. With the views, shops and food, you both made me feel like I was there with you. Thanks for keeping it simple and informative!
