I’m planning a trip for mid April (after the cherry blossom madness) and my husband is easily overwhelmed by noise and crowds. Cat Street and Yoyogi Park seem like the perfect balance of sightseeing without the crowding. Thanks for your excellent video.
Often you only have to go a street or two away from popular areas to find quieter backstreets. The main Takeshita Street on Harajuku is very noisy and overwhelming. A good tip for avoiding crowds at stations is to 'pull over' to the side when you get off a train, and wait for the crowd to disperse. After 30 seconds or so it'll be much calmer and you can continue with much less stress!
If your husband doesn’t already have some, get Loops earplugs. They tone down a lot of overwhelming noise but you can still hear what you need to hear. Cheapest ones are £20 😊
Reminds me of many, many years ago on my first trip to London and while walking around I realized how close some of the Underground Stations were. Anyway, that Bakey looked amazing ... I will put them on my todo list.
When you're only taking the train around you don't realise, do you? ☺️ All Japanese bakeries are good - they always have unusual treats you haven't seen before! So good!
Hi Amy, great video on walking from Shibuya to Harajuku. I'm going to Shibuya in mid March for a Band-Maid concert at Line Cube Shibuya. My wife is coming with me and we're staying in Ariake Garden. We're hoping to join in on some Sakura blossoming madness, should be doable as it's season for Sakura when we're in Tokyo. Your book has been put to good use in planning things to see and do while we're in Tokyo. Greetings from Norway.
@@cakeswithfaces Thanks, I saw Small Worlds Tokyo from my hotel windows, but at the time I had no ide what it was. Due to your videos I now know. We may visit it, and Team Labs Planet which is also near by 🙂
@@jan-ovepedersen5764 Oh I loved TeamLab Planets! Although the (much larger) TeamLab Borderless will be open by the time of your trip - but only Planets has the water rooms!
@@jan-ovepedersen5764 It's the permanent version - here's my video from before it closed: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tn24DrP-dxQ.html It's re-opening next month in a more central location near Tokyo Tower, in Azabudai Hills.
Binging all your videos as they give such a real feel to how a regular day would look like! We're planning to visit Japan for the first time, what are your thoughts on renting an e-bike/bicycle ?
Thanks so much! I've never rented a bike, but they say it's a good way to get around Kyoto, and Tokyo's mostly fairly flat too. You can only take bikes on trains and the metro if they're folded/dismantled and covered or in a bag, so you might want to pick a day when you don't need to go on the subway if it's in Tokyo. There are some nice recommended cycling routes, and I think cycling by the river would be nice: tokyocheapo.com/entertainment/sport/tokyo-cycling-routes/
Yes! They're just as amazing as you'd hope they'd be. They're in this video (a very old video of mine!) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HcMUOT3WBLU.html
Thanks for all the info Amy. I’m heading to Japan at the end of March. I think walking is the best way to see a place. As you said, when walking you notice the little things.😊
@@cakeswithfaces for sure you are so right it’s just bleak and nothing really fun going on people are just getting bills paid too after Christmas need something like this to make it super fun 🙌🙌🙌
I loved the previous Harajuku station building. 💖✨ That station building was a very precious wooden building. 🧐 I think it was valuable as an important cultural asset. 🤔 If in UK, I would not have done such an outrageous thing as demolishing it. 😰 I'm very sad. 😢
@@cakeswithfaces Thank you for reply. I took a lot of pictures of the previous Harajuku station building before the new station building was put into use. It was a very fairy-tale station building suitable for the town of Harajuku. 💖✨
Cat Street looks to be a good break when you get overwhelmed by crowds. I recently worked at a bakery, and those goods you had sound delicious, but so many carbs. 😂 One of my first jobs was at a Tower Records store in Seattle; the company in Japan was spun off in the early 00's as a separate entity with the name and branding rights for the country, so it was unaffected by the original Tower going bankrupt in 2006. Good video; it does fuel my wish to return to Japan once I've built up more funds.
Carbs are ok when you're walking so many miles each day. 😊 That's interesting that Tower Records Japan's a separate company - it's refreshing that you can still get CDs and physical media in Japan!
I'm based in the UK :-) (I do my filming on trips to Japan, then edit when I get home). Thanks for your concern - my thoughts are with everyone in Ishikawa prefecture.
i have one question, can you really eat at the park? cause i've heard some people doesn't allowed to eat at the park, we can't eat while walking too, if we want to eat like snacks or bread, where can we stop to eat?
It can sometimes be tricky to know where to eat your takeaway bento or convenience store snacks! You're right, you shouldn't eat while walking (unless you're at a festival, it's ok there) but eating in a park is fine. I'll also sit and eat at a bench if I spot one (they're quite rare so will often be in a park anyway). There aren't many bins so take your rubbish with you.
hmmm,... Shibuya and Harajuku are my most hated places ... maybe you will like Hama Rikyu Garden .. there is also nearby Italia Gai with cobblestone streets and yummy Italian restaurants ...
@@cakeswithfaces Mitsui Garden Hotel Shiodome Italia Gai is nice. They have a public bath but I don't think allow tattoos and lots of foreigners don't know how to behave ....
OF course some people are on line for praise and followers like some politicians are angel sad really they should be on here for us to enjoy the things they show us not for their own glory angel.
