A dumbbell flye mistake is rolling your shoulders forward which puts a lot of the tension on the shoulders instead of the chest. Instead, keep your shoulders rolled back to maximize chest activation.

I've been keeping my shoulders back (after watching your push-up mistake short) but I'm having pain in my upper chest muscle where it goes to shoulders...there's some relief when I'm keeping my shoulders back the whole day...is it cuz of bad posture?

I prefer the pec deck machine, flies are hard cause they put so much activation on the shoulders

Yeah, dumbbell flyes causes too much shearing forces. All that stress on the shoulder joint and tissues/tendons, when the dumbbells are at the lowest point, not good.

I love how you fitness experts preach using antagonistic muscles and act like it's the end all be all of safety and "activation". The chest is an internal rotator, how exactly does using your back muscles during the concentric maximize activation?

I have this issue with the Proctorial Flies Machine. No matter what I do, I find my left shoulder creeping forward.

Or… here me out… just do the better fly variants. Cable fly’s or machine flys provide stability to the shoulders and allow you to lift much heavier and get a better activation of the chest. Cable flys also allow you to hit the chest at different angles (high to low, or low to high). You do you, but I would much prefer cable flys or machine flys. But Arnold did love this exercise, so clearly they work for some people.
