My dad was against marriage. He only married my stepmother after 20 years together. He begged me not to get married. My husband's family believed in marriage, so I went with it. Not being too bothered, I borrowed my dress, anyone could be a bridesmaid if they had a dress. We borrowed the cars and dressed them up with ribbons off the market. My stepmother picked out my headdress when she went shopping. All low key. I always earned more than he did, I was out of work for only 4 years whilst my 2 children were very small, and we supported each other in every way through good and bad times. My one stipulation was he should never disrespect me by being unfaithful to me. If he stopped loving me, he should tell me first. He never did, and we laughed and cried together through good and bad times. My life effectively ended when his did. And I'm still grieving for my best friend.

I like how all the women's advice is just trust, trust her not to destroy you whenever she feel like despite the fact that their emotions change every hour of the day. 80% of divorce is initiated by women and with that she gets half your assets, your house, alimony, your kids and child support because she has your kids. Even if she signs a prenup, it can be easily thrown away by the judge and you still lose everything, so many men have committed suicide because of this but of course women brush it off because they don't bear the burden. If women had everything to lose in divorce, I guarantee they'd never get married much less divorce as much as they do.

I don’t ask to go out with the boys. I let her know in case we have plans that I forgot about. She does the same. We don’t go through each other’s phones because we don’t need to. She sets men straight when they get out of line whether or not I’m there. She prefers to be at home than out spending money. She’s never weaponized sex and has on multiple occasions gotten herself out of a bad mood simply to satisfy my sexual need. Fellas, I got lucky so I have no advice to give aside from once you find a solid match, never settle on the guy you offered to her. Be a better version of yourself as often as you can and never stop trying to impress her…. So long as it’s being reciprocated of course.

I’m 26, I was with a girl for the last 4 1/2-5 years. After the first two years everyone including her were saying I’m not ready to be a man or husband and that way to long to make someone wait to propose.. I was 21-22, made me feel crazy. Theirs no way you fully know everyone you need to know about someone in just two years. That’s slowely when their real.. true to the core personality will start slowly come out. I told everyone I can’t propose or consider it till I know for a fact theirs nothing hidden. When shit gets tough or boring their true personality comes out. We had a 6-7 month period of time where we both weren’t trying to keep chasing eachother, making it exciting.. didn’t communicate properly and she broke up with me randomly and was with a dude that night. That’s the type of stuff that I don’t propose for. When shit gets tough, if they love you and really plan on a lifetime with you.. you’ll work through it. She keeps trying to work it out with me but my whole perspective of her changed. It sucks, she was cool as fuck but now she seams weird and like she’s always up to something or now I’m paranoid she’s always lying. Their thought process is wild . Now she’s the one wanting and “willing to work on us” lol gtfoh with that. Take your time boys. Specially if your in your 20’s we are still practically kids

I waited 8 years for my boyfriend to propose just for him to use all my inheritance $ to further his flying career while living in a state I didn't want to go to but I thought it was a sacrifice I had to make to further our relationship. He dumped me once my money was gone & said he didn't love me then told me I had two days to leave. Also he took my car. All in all, marry a person who works at the relationship just as much as you (or even more)!

And also, women change. After 15 years, my ex wife went insanely bitter and is trying to take my kids from me. Divorce is extremely expensive and stressful. I won’t do that again.

I was in a horrible first marriage with a lot of abuse and demoralization. Later I had a boyfriend who had a bad first marriage and later I learned he never wanted marriage again nor kids. After 4 years of a good relationship and learning this, I had to leave him because that was not what I wanted or needed. I am now in a wonderfully loving, nurturing marriage where we both are thriving. We love each other more all the time and learn and have great respect for each other. We are a team through life, fully committed, and had that kid I still wanted. I am finally happy

It's not about trust...over many years people change. A woman may love you unconditionally today but in 10 years she gets bored and meets another guy. You must always protect yourself.

My late husband and I were together and married nearly 40 years when I held his hand as he passed away 2 days after Christmas 2017… sure, we syruggled and scraped every penny til it screamed most days but we went through and got through things TOGETHER. The memories are precious to me because we didn’t quit- we stayed married because we made a PROMISE to each other and I don’t take that lightly…It was the most gut ripping thing I’ve ever had to do was uphold my promise to him not to let him stay on machines.. I had to let him go because he trusted ONLY me to respect his wishes.. that is a great honor to me, and I miss my best friend SO much!

Marriage is a complicated matter. I’m so grateful I waited to get married until I found who shared my values and who was trustworthy and loyal. We waited a few years to have children which helped solidify our commitment to one another and we work hard to be friends and companions daily. Trust and compromise are the most important things for us. That said. I would HATE trying to find a mate now. The world is a HOT mess! Beyond grateful for my relationship and I will do everything in my power to keep it healthy and happy!

Unless you are religious there is no reason to get married. If you want a person to have say in your medical life, go get a medical POA. If you want someone to inherit your property or money, write a will. If you want the government to determine all that for you, get married.

Very few women stay in relationship if it does not end up in marriage. It provides security and safety to women. Also not getting married because you may end up losing money in future shows that you value money over commitment and love in addition to trust issues. That requires lots of introspection. To me people do it because they love each other and they trust that it will not end in divorce, if it does losing partner or family is harder than losing money. Enough money can be earned but time, love, family, loyalty and commitment has to be cultivated.

I was talking with my 37 year old son. He is happy alone. But, when he thought further ahead, he does not want to be alone in his later years when age starts to bring on physical sickness. He would love to have a woman he could care for as well as she care about him. It gets harder when folks get older in age. This is reality. I am glad he is looking ahead. There is a comfort growing old with someone who cares about you and he cares about her. It is a definite fact. He doesn't want to be alone in old age. It is a blessing sharing that stage in life with a stable person.

My wife is from one of the provinces in the Philippines. She is attentive to a fault, low-maintenance, and family-oriented. The culture shock from dating her in the beginning was real. In the 80s we married young I was married at 20 he was 22 neither of us had a dime. I helped him finish college worked till we bought our home then had babies was suppose to finish school it just never happened by that time he had his own computer business. As we grew older he made wasteful financial choices that ruined us after 2 foreclosures and dealing with his mental disorders he'd refuse to get help for I finally divorced at age 50 because he made over 200k a year and I had no job due to helping him build his life and career the judge gave me alimony because without me holding up the other end he would not have made the money he did. I believe women should be allowed to get educated work and build careers and help with raising children it should be shared... so it's not one sided

I’ve been married for almost 30 years and there was some rough times about eight years ago where I really thought about filing for divorce. I am the female so I would benefit greatly but I decided it was more important to protect the entire family then to give the money to government and lawyers and we worked it out and we are actually back together because if we were single we would be eaten alive by other people.
