@BestOfAudits Hilarious considering you said he was "the worst". What data do you have to back that up? As I thought - nothing. You were exaggerating too. If he was "the worst" as you put it, he certainly wouldn't be reffing world snooker finals and the likes would he. What you meant was "I don't like him because he gets involved in things that aren't his business", whilst ironically getting involved in a comment area you didn't need to. Now, stop throwing your toys out of your pram for strangers on the internet
Shame on you Earl, she only wanted a hug because she most probably looked up to you growing up and watching you play. You made her feel small and uneasy, she was the better player on the day tbf. Well done Seo!!
@@jonjohnson1978.haha yeah like you don't know what he's really like. That's not a gentleman and we knew that over the years. He would cheat given the chance, but will scream at you if he catches you cheating lol
Earl held his tongue up to the very last minute--surprisingly--but in the end just couldn't resist being the jerk he has always been. Excellent precision pool by Seo Seoa.
@@xelAppaR If the roles were reversed there would be no issue with refusing the hug. You are under no obligation to hug another person if you do not want to, guy or girl.
This was simply a very good player who admired the legend, Earl Strickland. He turned down an admiring fan. Not a good look for him, but not shocking to those of us who've watched him over the years.
Well said. He has always been a bad loser but this takes the cake, you could tell the girl was a fan and probably idolized him and he turns his back on her. My compliments to the ref, a class act for sure. Earl, you are a great player but a lousy human. Okay, so you can't compete at the same level you did 30 years ago and we don't expect you to, but show some class to the next generation. Efren would have shook her hand and complimented her on a good match......With a smile.
Despite the passage of time, he is still the same embittered and bad loser character...He found the place that suits him by sitting on his little chair. Congratulations To Seo Seoa for her calm and her vision of the game.
She was being so sweet. She went to hug him like I’ve watched you all my life and it was a pleasure playing you. Him saying don’t touch me was rude and unprofessional. I’ve lost respect for him for that. He could have done something different. “I’m sorry I’m not in the mood for a hug”. We all know Earl can have an attitude when losing but that was over the top. She beat him hands down on his mistakes.
How is telling someone you don't want to be touched rude?.if you don't want to be touched you don't wanna be touched, can't see earl being a hugger either lol. Reverse the roles=no one would care.
@@AstrixCloud I never said he didn’t have the right to not wanna be touched but he could have said it in a respectful way. He’s a legend act like one. That’s all I’m saying. She never touched him just reached her arms out for a hug. The man is a clown at times and on numerous occasions not just this one.
It wouldn't fit his persona to show any sort of overt emotion. Still good to watch at the table despite being a bit of an ass still. However, he did compliment her and that she shouldn't touch him as he's 'bad luck'. She totally outplayed him.
I would bet money if Earl had won he would have hugged her. I have watched Earl for many years, he is the sorest loser that ever played. Congrats Seo, that was perfection.
Mabye it's a part of USA style 😅 I am a pool player, not that level for sure, but I am playing with a lot of players of different nationalities and every time something like that happened, like trash talk when loosing or talking loud between your shots (referee got to step in ) even refused to shake hands sometimes 😅 it's Always an American guy 🤷♂️ (sry for the nice ones). So Earl loosing to a woman OMG😂 great game Seo👍
A spellbinding performance from Seo! In the beginning it seemed as if she didn't really know what she was doing. But then suddenly, as if from nowhere, she began coming up with deadly shots. Once I grew accustomed to her style, I could tell she was extremely measured, calm and graceful. An amazing player! Of course she defeated a legend who was nowhere near his prime - but that takes away nothing from her brilliance.
The only time Earl took a rack was with a fluke bump on the 8 ball shooting like a drunk idiot in a bar. His level is atrocious now while Seo is one of the best female player now, she just need to works on her mental like we saw on the world champ 10
the pearl wasnt even into this game,,being a pool player myself,, I get it'' if this was Efren Reyes,, Earls game would have been way different,, I saw that the minuite he tryed breaking out the 3 balls in the lower left side,, he was shooting real hard that wasnt his game' she probably thought WOW I beat the Pearl,,LOL'
When she played Kelly she was shreeking after she won. She couldn’t hold her accident. I said she must look up to Kelly. And Kelly was nice about it. Shook her hand. Accepted her hug and she complimented her
very excellent performance from Seo Seoa, very impressed with her soft touch yet enough to get that ball to move exactly to where she wanted. Definitely going to watch more matches she's in!
@@stevemerritt2721 Toxic masculinity lol. Such a ridiculous phrase. We don't need a cute nickname for everything. Just call it what it is, "being a douche". Has nothing to do with being a man, women can act just as terrible.
"What an a-hole!" "Was definitely a sore loser like he always has!" 2nd game, you knew Seo wanted to win this challenge, and she did it with style!" "Congratulations!"💖👏
Damn Earl, she may have been your competitor and I'm sure that defeat stung but she's also clearly a huge fan of yours as well. Shoulda gave the damn girl a hug. Do better
Oh, really impressive stuff from Seoa!! Such great control of the cue ball. And very kind of Marcel to say she played well and to don't take the hug thing personally.
1. seo goes to shake his hand, where earl compliments her saying "you play better than me" (you can hear it, turn up the volume). 2. as a result, seo goes from a handshake into a hug for the COMPLIMENT earl just gave her. 3. as the camera pans out, you can hear him joke "you don't want to touch me, i'm bad luck, i got covid too many times". 4. you can see the ref give out a chuckle and look around. then tells her "you played well, don't take it personally" people upset really searching for stuff to be upset.
After the game, he refused to shake Seo-ah's hand, and when Seo-ah was embarrassed and wanted a hug, he said. I got a lot of Covid. racist remarks about Asians
She was an outstanding player and Earl could do nothing except watch. Never mind the HUG, she beat him like a piece of cake. Plain and simple...... Awesome!!!!!
you one of those who hide indoors wearing 8 masks shivering and worried about catching co vid yet think someone else has to get it by hugging strangers?
This is a professional event, not a family outing. Nobody is obligated to hug anyone. I personally would have no issues giving someone a hug, specially if they were a big fan like she obviously is. Seo was by no means wrong for what she did, but running over to hug your opponent after beating them is by no means professional either. People need to stop trying to burn Earl at the stake simply because he didn't want to hug someone that just mopped the floor with him.
That was so disrespectful for Strickland to rebuff her in that way. I can't help to think that his ego was deflated. She is a great pool player and an equally great human being.
I've never seen her play before, she seemed so relaxed. She has such a soft touch when she's playing. It was a bummer though that Earl gave her the cold shoulder after the game.
But that's how Earl has always been - the guy that trash talks, breaks his cue when he misses a shot. He's the Phil Helmuth of pool with the arrogance of Minnesota Fats.
Seo played flawlessly!!! She is outstanding!!!! Earl has not lost his skill. Simply put, he was given no opportunity to play. What he has lost (or never had) is the good sense to recognize a warm gesture and respond in kind. Serious fail there Earl. I guess an Earl scorn is a roseless thorn. Sad.
Earl stated "..you don't want to touch me, I'm bad luck.." Earl fist bumped both her and the referee. If it was Earl trying to hug her and she turned him down, how would you then think about Earl?
@@chrisolson3240I agree in part. I went back and watched a couple matches. Earl didn't even shake hands, let alone give hugs, to anyone else. It seems he is genuinely concerned about covid still. Which is his right, regardless of how anyone feels. The issue is, he is known for b.s. so we all assume the worst. He has also earned that.
She’s amazing to watch. If you want to copy someone’s style, hers is perfect. Would be interesting to see her play snooker with a cue action like that.
🤣Earl Strickland deserved this result, I remember a few years back in the Mosconi cup when he complained about him playing tough shots and the European guys getting easy shots...we call that positional play 😂 congrats Seo Seoa...great performance but just know that Earl really thinks that you got all the easy shots and it was nothing to do with him 🤣
okay but let’s be fair here, that is a huge factor at this level. yeah playing position and snookering your opponents/leaving them difficult shots is apart of the game, but that doesn’t mean not getting good shots to take isn’t a good argument for losing. this is why i have always said their is a massive difference between winning a match and beating your opponent. if your opponent didn’t get to go to the table to take their turn very much, and when they did get to go to the table they were snookered practically every time, and you end up winning; you won, but you didn’t beat them. to beat someone means to best them. but running racks until you come to an impossible shot and then you snooker them and say “okay here you go you can have your turn now” knowing fully well they have no way to rebuttal and you will get your turn right back, that isn’t beating them. at that point your opponent is a mere spectator. at this level winning the lag is actually extremely crucial. just simply getting to break for the first rack can LITERALLY determine the entire match. it doesn’t always, but i have seen it happen many times with Filler vs Shaw etc etc. that’s why i personally like alternate break rules. winner breaks is good sometimes, absolutely i like that style as well. but winner breaks doesn’t keep things very fair
I have played pool for 35 years, and I love Earl, I play my game based on his style, and it has won me a lot of tournaments, I even have him as a friend on my facebook page. But not giving the girl a hug was being a jerk, she ran over to him to get a hug, and he refused, grabbed his case and cues, without even breaking them down, and ran away. While she stood there almost begging him to give her a hug. I actually felt sorry for the girl, because Earl was such a jerk to her. Even if I lost 0-11 to her, I would give her a hug if she wanted one. I know Earl was mad about losing, I have been there myself, many times, but he should have still gave her a hug. He is an older man, just like me, I am 63 years old, and I have a feeling he really hates losing to a woman.
Cause youre a simp bro. Even tho he got crushed by a female player hes still gave her a fist bump and move on. And thats should be it. All u simps only that a lovey dovey female pool player tried to hug Earl and got rejected, ever thought about what he went through right there?? People have their certain personal boudaries. A hug from a hot female player is not an exception.
Actually turns out Earl had an accident that is more common in gentlemen of a certain age, and was merely sparing the young lady getting too close to his wet spot. He even took her for a steak dinner later that night. Class act.
@@pinedastaglio6500 I have no doubt that she can hold her own in that aspect of the game too. I will be paying close attention to her in the future. Clearly a huge talent
i like her too, but i have to admit that she's too machine-like for my taste. she's very mechanical and soooo deliberate. she doesn't really have any style on the table. kind of boring to watch, except for the fact that she wins. i'm impressed by how well composed she is regardless of who her opponent is, but i find myself just wanting to skip ahead and see who won.
This match is already on one of the livestreams. I think he was sincere when he said she is a great player and better than him (currently anyways). She played near perfect in the match against him. Earl probably isn't the touchy/feely kind of guy, and he does seem concerned about COVID still. It would be interesting for someone to set up a match where they play an exhibition against each other, and as teammates. And hopefully Seo Seoa gets her hug.
NOOOOOOOO, HE IS JUST A RACIST. IF HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT COVID HE WOULN'T HAVE BEEN THERE WITHOUT A MASK ON HIS FACE OR HE WOULDN'T HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
I think Earl was surprised by the hug request. He gave her all the congratulations expected per the norm of the event, but I did get a chuckle out of it. I think Seo was honored to play Earl and wanted to give him so extra "respect" lol.
I'm not defending Earl's attitude, but this is nine ball flukes are a huge part of this game. but the fluke was off of a safty that was very hard to hit safe plus he actually hit the que ball to make that fluke, seems like you didn't notice that. it's called a hit and hope and it works as much as it doesn't. Really Seo played amazing defense. But Earl was really unlucky had some really good breaks, Dry yes but good that allowed Seo to run out. and the Carrom off the 7 into the 8 really unlucky for that not to drop. The safty he played in the bottom left hand corner that should have snookered Soe on the 1 ball. stopped in the only place where she could have hit it. yes she scratched but still made it and that's fustrating. I wouldn't say Soe annihilated him, he didn't really miss anything she just had amazing Safety's and put the balls down when she got a chance. I guarantee the score would have been alot different had balls dropped on the break for Earl. but this is the game of Nine ball and the one person who Know's the importance of the break better than anyone is Earl. I just don't like people who say the only reason you won is because _________. which is what you're saying.
I'm pretty sure Strickland was so confident that he would win this match, that's why he was so devastated he lost, not only lost it was a massacre.(5-1)!
If Earl had even an average competitive mind with his physical talent, he would've been the greatest pool player in history. He never grew and, consequently, maintains the emotional stability of an 8-year-old. He let his ego handcuff his unbelievable talent.
I am happy for Seo and a little embarrassed for Earl. She had a few favorable rolls but overall, played well. She took advantage of every opportunity she was given. Earl hasn’t changed much and could have shown a little class. Damn, the young lady was just trying to be nice about beating you. I’ve always enjoyed watching Earl but he didn’t need to do that. I think even Jason was embarrassed for him.
If the roles were reversed and she declined, she be called brave and the woke mob would be asking why did he think he could hug her to begin with. Besides, not all people liked to be hugged.
Beautiful performance Seo! Earl never had a chance although he was playing well. To Earl that was the ultimate defeat by female and he just couldn't find it in his heart for a simple h u g! I love Earl but that was a pitiful show of sportsmanship. She was trying to show you the ultimate respect and you denied her that. Can't wait to find out what all his excuses are for losing to a female of all things. I'm disappointed in you Earl Strickland. That was a chump move. Joe Lewis class! If you have any.
Rewatched the end and I don't know if that was more awkward for Earl or for Seo. Anyway kudos to the ref for reassuring Seo not to take it personally. I guess it's true what they say: Never meet (beat?) your heroes.
You obviously don't know what an American is. Nationality has nothing to do with it. He's a has been with a big ego. When that ego gets hurt, his brain shuts off and becomes this defensive person. He's human, and any human can act that way.
"You're great. Youre better than me. Sorry, you don't want to touch me. I got bad luck. You dont want any of it going forward." I think we were all too hard on Earl
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! Everyone is completely missing the interaction and creating their own story in their head. Nothing he did or said was out of character for Earl. In fact he was was extremely nice to her.
@Nicholas B man, idc. Ive met all these people in person. I was on both sides of this one. And Earl hugged Emily Frazer right after doing this and it made me change my opinion again after this comment
That's so funny. She shot good. Idon't think she missed a ball. Shot all the right shots, she played good. Earl got extremely unlucky with the 8 not going in and the 7 hitting the point to line up but listen, gotta give her a little credit. She had a very good performance here.
He was complimenting her. He said, "you're breaking better than me" then he told her "you don't want to touch me" meaning that his bad play would rub off on her.
I’m 70 years old and played and followed pool and billiards all my life. I was a fan of Earl Strickland, but not any more. Your conduct following your loss was shameful. Games, wins and losses come and go, but honor and gentlemanly decency once lost cannot be retrieved. Seo Seoa is the better player and better person.
You sure you followed Earl? He just got schooled, he spent the entire match sitting in the corner watching. Earl has never been a "gentleman", in fact he has been the exact opposite his entire career. So for him to behave like this is just another day ending in Y. If Reyes behaved like this then that would be a story.
