Deen was offered the frontman position years ago but turned it down. Deen couldn’t sustain the highs and lows. He couldn’t go an entire concert vocally. Journeys songs are hard on vocalists.
Well Deen and Marco are quite happy with being in The Dead Daises, who just finished up a massive tour all over the world last week. He's talked about it in interviews, so I'm not quite sure how this is all going to work our since TDD will be going back out on tour sometime in 2019 also.
This is exactly why DEEN got screwed with the Hall Of Fame, He performed double duty with Journey when they needed him, and is still the longest serving Drummer in Journey..
Really pleased to see Deen healthy and doing what he's meant to be doing. Hope his program is strong and he's avoiding the pitfalls that so many others beforehand couldn't avoid. Much respect to him.
This is amazing! I never thought the Original Journey could reform like this and play all their classics. Unreal! I’m so pleased to see and hear this! This music really lifts my spirit! In this Age of Covid, I needed this bad! Thank you Journey! God Bless you all! 👏🏻🎸😎
Saw Journey on the last tour with Def Leppard. Honestly DL blew them away. Journey looked to just be going through the motions. No energy at all. This is so much better. Not even close. And Journey was my bucket list band. This band is loaded with talent. Neal should just stick with these guys. I think all the drama maybe was a distraction and affected their performance. Just my 2 cents.
I heard Deen go higher on a couple notes Steve Perry never hit. . yodels like Perry and Pounds like Smith .And Rollie humble enough to play his successors parts.. cool
I can listen to THIS singer of Journey songs. Not the current singer of actual Journey. This is Neal's way of firing the singer and other members of Journey he don't dig, anymore. And, I'm sure Neal has it set, legally, that Ross/Steve/Jonathan can't tour under, "Journey," without him. And, I am able to enjoy this singer's vocals; and don't notice anything missing, instrumentally. Plus, we get Greg Rollie (and his vocals) back! Victory=Schon and Journey fans.
Well I might be in the minority when I saw this. Deen's voice is stronger than Perry's and not even because of age. The way Deen sings is more powerful than Perry in his prime. The way Perry sang Seperate Ways is what started to kill his beautifully amazing voice. Perry had a voice like no other and thanks to Johnathan Cain, telling Steve to sing "heavier" when it came to the Frontiers album, it started the destruction of a once beautiful voice. Love both singers, but if they should've had Deen as the singer/drummer ever since 1998. He's the one to take Perry's place definitely in my mind. End of my rant.
This is the same show as the other pro quality video released by the band. It needs to be a proper DVD. I also think the unsung hero here (besides Dean's incredible vocals and drumming) is the keyboard player who is doing spot on renditions of the original songs. There is not a better group of professional musicians on the planet.
How is the possible. As much as Steve Perry is a god...how was this "Dean" guy stuck behind a drum set all these years. I think he may be better than Steve Perry. Have we entered a paradox? Is the space time continuum destroyed? Am I still alive? OOOOOOOOWWWWWHHHHHHH
I am so excited for this tour. This is a definite must for 2019! Love Deen's voice and was my only complaint when I saw The Dead Daises was that he didn't sing. Marco Mendoza is amazing also and sings well and is a hell of a nice guy. Deen and Marco are very friendly.
Hats off to Neil for seeing the opportunity to do this. These songs deserve to be dusted off and brought to the masses. So cool to involve Gregg, and I know the invitation has been made to Steve Perry, but I hope nobody feels any pressure. This in itself is wonderful.
This is awesome! I wish Neal, Deen, Greg would do something with Steve Perry after Steve is done with his solo music. THAT would be the BOMB!!!!❤👏=^..^=
@@cherylgallagher2805 i doubt that. Even though Steve was an unbelievable singer, he can not sing like in the days anymore. I still love what he did. He was one of the very best.
I can't believe I just stumbled across Journey Through Time I have seen every rendition of this band from the late seventies on and if I can't have Steve Perry in there Dean is absolutely the shit I would pay big bucks to see this lineup anytime anywhere over any of the new version of this band this takes me back and I'm 61 just fantastic I'm an 18 year old kid again thank you boys plus I'm from Oregon and Dean's and Oregonian boy
OK Neil this is your line up .Call Deen say hey brother come on back home.Journey is where you belong. Gregg you've been missed deeply and need to back with journey.Neil woohoo I know you watch youtube. What ya say
indispensable somehow a man could be... but towards the journey perhaps they learned to be flexible in the group coz' the Show Must Go On! for the Crowd.., most especially the Loyal FANS of Journey... 🌿Beautiful *JOB* D. Castronovo..🎵
I’m fine with Steve Smith as drummer of Journey, but Dean Castrovovo should be the frontman/lead vocalist of Journey. He’s a great drummer, but being the lead vocalist of Journey is where he should be. No disrespect to Arnel Pineda, but Dean sounds almost like Steve Perry. He has more of the rhythm and blues sound that Perry always had in his vocals. People think Steve just sang high tenor throughout all of his songs. He also brought his singing to a lower tone as well. Steve Perry wasn’t a member of The Bee Gees. No disrespect to The Bee Gees. They were great trio.
I am so happy to see Deen clean and thriving. I'll be honest with you, I have no idea why they chose Arnel because Deen was pulling off the Perry tunes before Arnel arrived and it seemed logical to keep him on lead vocals and drums. I always thought they could retain the original Journey feel with Deen on drums and Greg and Jonathon on keys to create a huge wall of sound, Ross on bass, and obviously Neal on guitar.
NEAL-best guitar player of my generation, wish he and steve would settle thier differences and appear together again, would be nice, this nice trip down memory lane but not the same without steve, ross, and smith
Nice to see Neal and Gregg back together other than that short lived Santana lineup. My only wish is that they get a drummer and bring Dean out from behind the kit so he can concentrate on singing, because he has an amazing voice.
He was kicked due to his drugs, alcohol abuse and legal struggles. Deen has said that they did the right thing. Life moves on. Deen has moved on from his personal and legal struggles. He has a new band.
Deen kills it on these two songs, but I'm hoping to hear nothing past the Captured album. I was waiting for them to start singing "City of the Angels, City of the Angeeeeeellllls"
When this group tours throughout 2019 I guarantee you will hear at least a handful of post Captured songs. If they were to omit performing Dont stop believing the crowd might actually riot.
Today's technology in voice enhancement can make any singer sound good, ask Bobby Kimball formally of Toto, today the guy sounds like he did 30 years oh nd Frankie Vallie he sounds better than he did 40 years ago but hey whatever works I guess "Don't Stop Believin" fools
You’re a funny guy. Mild reverb with this one and Don’t Stop Believing. The full concert is on RU-vid. This is all Deen. Vernon sounds butt hurt about something.
Garage band? Lol... I just came here from 4 other versions ....the part at 3:09 is the challenge it seems cuz Perry in 83, arnel, even Js Soto all flub that part. But this guy nailed it better than the rest and is playing drums. He’s way better than Perry
Omg Jerry, how can you call Dean a garage band singer. He sang Mother Father live, I saw and heard it myself and I thought it was Steve Perry. Dean sounds more like SP than Arnel did. I respect Arnels talents a ton but outside of Arnel having a better stage presence I think Dean preserves the Journey sound than Arnel did. Dean is AMAZING!
He's no Perry I'll give you that (at this point I dont think Perry is even Perry anymore) but he blows Pineda out if the water. The one who most nearly hit the same stratospheric notes as Perry used to was Augeri-before his voice collapsed in 2006.
