Thanks for your comment. I think the reason for the popularity of city pop is that each of the lyrics, composition, and arrangement is a craftsmanship created by dedicated writers.
In the '90s, J-pop was going through a transition from '80s city pop to '90s R&B. So a lot of '90s J-pop sounds like city pop mixed with '90s R&B and new jack swing.
This era of anime of is one of my favorite art styles so i love the juxtaposition of the smooth female city-pop vocals with nostalgic anime imagery. You have good taste.
You're Under Arrest is the anime and the OVA (4 eps) is fantastic! Immediately likeable characters, great attention to detail, the shading and reflections are great, they put the money into it, and it shows. If you like 80's Japanese esthetics, you'll love it.
Thanks for making mixes of lesser known city pop artists! The genre is so much more than Mariya Takeuchi and Meiko Nakahara. (Don't get me wrong, I love their music as well, but sometimes it's nice to listen to someone you've never heard of before). Great work! 😄
Thanks for your comment. You are right. I like the famous music, but I want everyone to know that there are many good songs in the not so famous ones too.
the anime is called "Taiho Shichauzo - You're under arrest!" Its about two girl cops and their daily lives. Its a fun Slice of Life anime. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for your comment. A North American DVD version of this anime appears to exist. You may want to look for it on Amazon, etc. I am sorry that I cannot help you.
Don't know why this was in my reccomended, but made me imagine how it would be for japanese lads in mid 90's, listening to this songs on their discmans, walking around or in public transport.... Curious. Beautiful.
I really adore Japanese city pop. I have some type of nostalgia, even though I've never listened to this genre. I hope I'll keep love it for a long time.
I have no idea why this was suggested to me or what citypop is (I'm a metalhead not very familiar with pop genres in general), but I weirdly dig this. Feels very nostalgic and I can't put my finger on why.
I'm so glad you included MIND CIRCUS. Very good song, not well known by young people who listen to Showa/ 90s japanese pop though. It's criminally underrated!
old Japanese music and anime are amazing. Sadly, there won't be any in the future however I'm sure it was very beautiful during those time. I love the old days.
Citypop with one of my favorite animes, featuring the best girls, and best car...and not only that, time appropriate (exactly the kind of songs Natsumi and Miyuki would be listening to)...what's not to like.?
Thanks for this! I was actually old enough to enjoy the music so its not fake nostalgia 80s city pop. Reminds me of being 13, hanging out at home watching imported anime VHS.
Thank you for your inspiring comments. The music I was listening to in real time is still real time when I listen to it now. I think it is important not to lose the heart of a boy.
