I like how the Oberon fight wasn't itself treated as this tragic thing, Guda and Artoria Avalon just knew it had to happen. Almost makes it seem like its a fight between friends till you realize someone still has to die.
Y’know, before I played LB6 and all I knew was “it’s the lostbelt where shit gets real,” I wondered what the hype was about. I knew the hype was probably warranted, but I still wondered what made LB6 stand out in people’s minds. Now after playing this lostbelt, I think I get it. More than any other lostbelt or singularity that came before, this story was a tragedy. The kind of tragedy if even one of a number of mistakes hadn’t been made and if certain characters didn’t have certain fatal flaws. If only the fairies had forged Exacalibur instead of being too lazy to be bothered. If only the fairies hadn’t turned on Cernunnos and his beloved priestess. If only both Children of Prophecy had not been treated so poorly. If only Uther had not been assassinated and allowed to peacefully unite fae and human, and conversely if only Wryneck had been there to prevent Uther’s death and the burning of Londinium. If only Muryan hadn’t slaughtered the Fang Clan out of revenge. If only Morgan did not care for her daughter as she did. If only Cnoc na Riabh had not been assassinated herself and allowed to unite Fairie Britain under a new rule. And lastly, if only Ritsuka had not trusted Oberon so unconditionally. If any of those things had not come to pass then maybe, just maybe, this tragedy could have been avoided. But that is the essence of a truly impactful tragedy. You understand how it could have been avoided and in how many ways it could have been avoided, but you understand why it played out like it did. The fairies as a whole cannot help being the selfish beings that they are, Cernnunos couldn’t help wanting to spare the fairies their suffering, Muryan couldn’t help wanting her revenge, Morgan couldn’t help wanting at least one meaningful relationship, and Ritsuka can’t help be what they are: someone who helps people when they need help and put great trust in others who help them. The last in particular is almost Shakespearean. Because the key element of a Shakespearean tragedy is a main character with a fatal flaw. A flaw that would be a strength in any other situation or story but a fatal Achilles’ Heel in the story they find themselves in. In this case, strong unconditional trust. In every other singularity and lostbelt before this, that ability to trust in the unconventional Allie’s they encounter along the way has always been a strength that’s carried the day for Ritsuka time and time again. But at the end of this lostbelt, that strength becomes a fatal weakness because Ritsuka has overlooked the greatest enemy that’s been next to them this entire time. Which makes it rather fitting that the final enemy that Ritsuka missed due to their fatal flaw is a Shakespearean character. The theme of the lostbelt saga has always been “the loss of what could have been.” But this more than any other lostbelt hammered that home. This lostbelt had a chance. If anything the Chaldeans could have saved a few hundred denizens by bringing them to Proper Human History. But in the end, all the mistakes only makes this lost chance all the sadder. What could have been, lost forever.
Guda doesn't trust Oberon unconditionally if you pick the right choices, he knows he's gonna turn on him at the end but it's not like there was any other choice. Oberon basically did half the work to overthrow Morgan, without him it would have been impossible.
@@TheRagnarose This. Guda was given agency to NOT trust Oberon, and I began to choose these dialogue options over the typical "New servant is our friend" approach Guda usually uses around end of act 1, after Oberon questioned Guda's faith and trust in Mash.
@@TheRagnarose There's a whole thing going on with Guda and Oberon referring themselves to bystanders during this entire lb. Essentially means that they know this is not their story, and that they have no say in how it will play out. Oberon(while the one pulling the strings), does it without agency as he, along with the other characters, are bound to their roles. A slave to his role and the world, just a puppet who can see his own strings. He acts out his role, does it methodically and whimsically but it means nothing to him, the entire time he lacks passion because he realizes its all a farce. He's full of hatred for it but his pride is that he at least plays his part and acts his role with no faults as long as he's on stage. He never even hated Faerie Britain, he enjoyed Morgan's storybook, but his role dictates he had to destroy it, so he acted out his role until the end without complaints. He was more of a slave than anyone in this shitty situation. The only thing he decided for himself in the end was to also target PHH and Chaldea out of bitterness for his wife. Faeries are slaves to their purpose. Oberon as well could not change his fate. There's kind of a huge theme about fate in LB6, every character is bound by their fate, and that only disaster could only come from running from, neglecting, or shunning their duty/fate. The Fairy knights, Morgan, pretty much everyone was pitiful a tragic and the only difference between them and, Castoria and Oberon, is that they chose to dig themselves deeper while the latter two went to the bitter end regardless of their feelings.
The thing that hurts the most is that I was willing to mostly write off the faeries entirely after seeing what most of them are like, and how cruel they are. But the part with the innkeeper Mike really breaks me. There were some faeries capable of going against the worst of their nature and coexisting peacefully with other beings, but they were dragged down by the sins of their race and fated for doom.
We've seen all 7 lostbelts now. the Yagas, the children of the Scandinavian Lostbelt, citizens of SIN, Indian Lostbelt, Olympus + Atlantis, and now the Deinos (we dont know more about the Ocelomeh rn) were all just innocents caught in the schemes of much stronger beings and you really just hate to see them go even if that's what is necessary. But the Fairies.... damn they all really needed to go extinct, like Beryl is there and somehow he's not the most fucked up being around (close tho). Morgan should've just killed them all when she had the chance. Yet it becomes the setting for what I'd argue to be the best chapter of FGO, if not the best arc in all of Nasuverse itself.
Jesus Christ, that part of 4:17 caught me off guard, seeing male Ritsuka carry female Ritsuka while he himself is being carried by our long Departed Doctor and OG Da Vinci really hurts my heart, it just shows that even nor they are gone, they are still there in our hearts forever supporting us for as long as we ourselves remember them.

@@ssjokg4952Nasu did a really good job at properly justifying why this particular Lostbelt needed to go. Not all of the Fearies were bad (Mike, Habetrot, Ector, Rob, Wag, and Winky) but too many of them were a problem. Cernunnos tried to give them peace and how do they repay him? The Fearies poisoned him and then dismembered his priestess. No wonder he so pissed to the point his own corpse wants to destroy everything.
@@Goetia544Not to mention they are soley responsible for their own erasure. Remember, in this lostbelt we could of actually saved the inhabitants (atleast the faeries, not the manufactored humans), and taken them to proper history with us. But no, they quite literally killed eachother before we could get close to packing up.
@@Goetia544 "Faeries are innocent and pure by their very nature" - Da Vinci (paraphrasing). It's not that any of the faeries were even technically BAD- it's that by their own faerie nature, they only live to fulfill their purpose and to have fun/be happy (or in other words, they're self-serving). They aren't tied to morals/ethics, and are thereby prone to go from happy, nice, friendly faerie to evil, awful faerie in an instant if it serves their whims and doesn't go against their purpose (like in the Nameless Woods). Even the good faeries were good because it suited their purpose or made them happy, not from a sense of duty. This is why Morgan's rule had to be so iron-handed- their fear of her wrath is what kept them from giving into their natures and creating chaos and senseless slaughter. It's not that faeries were bad- it's that they, as a species, are inherently dangerous and chaotic, and their continued propogation would ultimately lead to the end of the world, which is why their disappearance in PHH is part of what makes us the proper timeline. They could all be good or evil, which is a big part of LB6's theme and what makes it so good- every character has a 'good' side, and a correspondingly 'evil' side, and we see all of them. The duality of their natures makes them, ironically, palpably human, and shines a light on how important our own morals are in keeping us in check... because without them, we'd be as cruel and doomed as Faerie Britain.
This entire animation is so good. I especially love the additional imagery of 8:53 The red sky as Albion flies over the city 9:42 Baobhan Sith with the divine core of Cernunnos
When LB6 came out for NA I wondered what people meant by “they deserved it” now I understand. Though it shouldn’t be too surprising based on classic fairytales.
A movie? *A* movie?? My friend Camelot is like 1/4 the size of this Lostbelt and despite them cutting corners they still need two parts. One movie aint never making it chief.
Quite literally everything in that lostbelt, even chaldea + foreign god + Beast 4, is contributing towards its destruction, unlike the other lostbelt and singularity prior to this.
If it wasn't for the fact that he was gunning for proper human history too I would have 100% been okay with Oberon destroying Fae Britain, those fairies were vile, hardly a decent one among them save for maybe Mike, Rob and Wag. Barghest and Melusine too though their fates were already sealed by the circumstances of their nature.
Yeah, after finding out the true history of Cernunnos’ backstory and all the horrible stuff the Faeries have done for the last 14,000 something years, this is probably the only time I didn’t feel bad for taking out a Lostbelt lol (and the rest of the Tam Lin including Habetrot were given to us anyway).
5 months late for a reply but I think with Rob and Wag, they are from Proper Human History or at least they don't belong to this Lostbelt. I believe they mentioned they were washed up on Fairy Britain at some point so that might explain why they're not messed up like the rest. For Mike, I guess Da Vinci managed to get through to him through their time together. I'd also bring up ones like Ector or Coral. Both of which died but yeah. But yeah, screw most of the fairies lol
A true masterpiece and Nasus magnum opus. This lostworld has given us so much, and given me a permanent ptsd to the words "3minutes", a love for a certain tragic heroine whos only mistake was raising her daughter wrong, a deep kindredship to Mel, Caster, and Barghest. And gave us the best antagonist Nasu has ever written in the form of Oberon. I cant wait til we finally get an anime adaptation its gonna be long as hell but worth every second ❤
I'm just happy to destroy this godforsaken lostbelt. Not all faeries are bad though, there are a few exceptions like mike, ector, redra bit, hope, etc. But god damn the other 90% are just fucking deserved to die. But those good faeries are the ones that I don't really mind being in the storm border, especially hope, god damn i love her so much 😭
Didn't expect to be crying again because of all that... but the cernunnos part was the perfect opportunity for playing some Fantasy (cernunnos's theme)
Sooner or later, Goredolf, Nemo, Sion will be gone as well and then we will have to take charge. So fellow Masters; keep your hand on the plow and hold on.
I'm still so pissed I missed the Summoning for Oberon. I had calculated my money properly, I thought. Apparently Morgan took more than I thought. At least next year I won't have to worry during his reappearance. Maybe I'll get lucky on New Years.
