Vtubers, they are real, but at the same time they aren't, just like a ghost. The song 'Ghost' expresses their feelings just like how Sui said, and I'm sure the vtubers themselves know it more than anyone else about their existence . . . . . . . Thank you for translating this, I really wanted to translate it but it's still too difficult for my level

wow, what a really cool meaning behind the song. yeah, i have a lot of friends that stray away from vtubers for several reasons, and some just straight up hate on them even though they've never watched them. its kinda sad that these vtubers get ignored- even if there is some act, you know, they are still real people. some people don't like to understand that there is a real person behind the avatar and that they are working hard at what they are doing, it kinda sucks tbh. i won't lie, i was like this too, hating on vtubers for no reason, but after learning of the stories like Suisei I really felt inspired, and it was a very nice feeling. i'm definitely not some sort of genius or hardworker, but she really makes me wanna work harder, especially during my hard times. really talented people don't get watched cause of their avatars. i dont want and expect every living person to enjoy vtubers, but i feel like they have so much potential to be inspiring and entertaining to a lotta people. hell, they might even save some people who feel like theyre at an all time low. i really hope as well that vtubers can casually be on tv and just be there in the outside world. I wrote so much LMAO. just felt like saying this though

I, too, didn't like them at first before the Pandemic. But when we were quarantined, I stumbled upon a translated clip of Aki when she was feeling down because of her sub count and then I realized that there's a real person behind the avatar. At that time, I was also depressed because I lost my still-born child, my girlfriend, and job in the span of 3 months so I started watching her archives then met all the other girls from Hololive. They actually saved me from committing suicide, just thinking about "when is her next stream" made me want to live just a little bit longer until I completely forgot about committing suicide in the first place. So I really wish nothing but the best for these beautiful souls who made my 2020 bearable.

There's a show in Japan where vtubers are invited as guests, even Suisei was there. Her wish is becoming true and I love it. I love vtubers, they help me to bear with my depression.

From the lyrics you can tell there's more than meet the eye and a lot of hidden messages we'll never figure out, naturally. She's a proficient musician by now, even if she doesn't advertise herself as one (yet), she's very attached to the vtuber persona more than "the musician" one. But that's normal because it's her job in the first place By reading the lyrics somewhat she's calling herself "ugly" as a vtuber, maybe Suisei thinks she's still not enough to be a singer. Her live performance was amazing, in the future we'll need more than a song, we'll need a full album

My favorite take on the lyrics is when you completely flip the script and imagine it spoken by one of the faceless glow sticks in the crowd, wanting to be noticed by their idol.

On the day that the song was released, hoshiyomi discord was on fire discussing about the meaning of the song and all the concept behind it, every translator there was working on the lyrics as fast as possible, and in the end it seems that all of us got pretty close to a bit of the original theme lol btw would be cool to have u there, if u feel like u could check our discord is always great to have someone that could be able to translate sui for us that dont know Japanese that well :D

"Be honest. Don't you think I'm amazing?" Always have, always will. Normal weebs learn Japanese to go to Japan. I'm learning Japanese to understand Suisei's songs. It's not often I can feel the meaning of a song's lyrics without understanding a single word, but Ghost nearly moved me to tears even though I still only have a surface-level understanding of what it means. Even still, that same surface-level understanding is all I need to understand how amazing this song is.

The lyrics are a lot like Eves' Raison D'etre imo, the way suisei and the protag in the Eve MV don't think they exist is beautiful in a way.

This... this is an interesting take on the nature of our technological advancement on society. I probably should've expected this, but it was still fascinating to hear such optimism from Suisei regarding her wishes for the future: that there would be no discrimination between celebrities that use their real faces, and those that use virtual ones. While that reality is slowly coming to pass here on RU-vid, I can see it still being frowned upon everywhere else--and I don't think this is an issue that will be so readily resolved. I find that her sentiments are treading on two issues that we as a people all face. The first is the nature of self-image. Are we confident in how we appear to others? Or do we prefer to change ourselves, and present to others what we _wish_ we were like, or how we wish to appear? And in either case, are we being genuine, true to our natures and thus, to our audience? Or are we merely putting on an act to get publicity and benefits? Why aren't we confident in ourselves? And if we put on an act, shouldn't we be using that effort to truly better ourselves instead of hiding behind a mask? The questions go on. The second issue feeds heavily from the first as a result of our technological march toward progress: the increasing virtualization of our entire world (accelerated by the pandemic), and what is gained... and what is lost by doing so. Behind a screen, we can adopt the veil of anonymity--and with it, comes great power: power to disguise ourselves, for better by putting our best foot forward (like what I believe the V-Tuber/streamer business is doing), or for worse and to poison those around us with false pretenses or wicked intents (Internet trolls and hatesites, the works). Power to make our greatest--or darkest and most twisted--dreams come true, even by proxy of bits and bytes. Power to seal ourselves away from the people around us, and to live in a world of our own making--or to reach out to those we could never reach otherwise and make the world a better place. V-Tubers find themselves in both camps: following the trend of technology to create a new self-image. And with all the negativity that can come with being in both camps. Not being known by face is, by nature, bound to raise suspicion of intentions. At the very least, the audience might be wondering what these people have to hide, or what wish these people are trying to fulfill. But at the same time, we are forced to acknowledge that there are people behind those avatars--real people with hopes, dreams, aspirations. And they can embrace the benefits both camps can provide. Something that is lost on many because we don't actually see their non-avatar faces. They can reach global audiences with ease, with faces that people can easily latch onto due to being a proxy of an increasingly popular form of media. They have the benefits of not being just characters, but people--people that can interact with audiences and build relationships. They are people--but they just use a different face to talk to everyone else. This duality in existence... it creates an odd split. Are you your avatar? Is your avatar you? You're digital, but also real... the duality of a ghost's existence--still present, still sentient, but unknowable by everyone else by nature of its incorporeal form. ...I guess what I'm trying to say is that V-Tubers, at least to me, represent the nexus of all these issues--the issue of self-identity, the issue of existing on the Internet as a personality, and the split this creates in how others perceive you and who you are behind the avatar, behind the screen. Something this complex is going to take time to fully come to terms with for society. But I also hope to see Suisei's vision come true... one day.

This is a great breakdown. The question of identity is based on the interpretation of one and their resolve towards that. Society also juggles this with other concepts such as nationality and tribe/clan, and the anonymity of being virtual is another extension of the same identity questions but in another field. It will be a long battle. Answers to this again exist on a spectrum, we now have to find to optimal range within that spectrum and move on. Suisei's wish carries a very heavy sociological and philosophical weight.

Me too, Sui-chan. While Vtuber's market seems to be on a very successful kind of market right now, in a grand scheme of things they (and we as a fan) are still considered a niche. I would also love to see the day when vastly many kinds of people become accepted to what Vtubers are.

Somebody said something about the song about hate is bad, I think the bad thing is people misunderstand think is hate song, and more really bad about it is if you angry and hate something but can't express it, keep it in the down and deep heart ,lock the heart, don't express the real yourself,make fake smile ,that is a pathetic thing

The Ghost's message is telling me that Vtubers are the better streamers than the actual streamers....... Y? Vtubers: sings, hosting, ofc play games, and many more... The independent vtubers: almost the same but a bit harder... Like how Suisei experiences Streamers: plays game, hosts thats all

Poor Suisei. I hope she doesn't feel like she's holding herself back by being a vtuber. It's a good funnel for getting her music out there and she's got hundreds of thousands of fans. But I can understand possibly wishing more people would find her and not be afraid of some invisible stigma regarding vtubers. At least that gap is closing as the future and technology develop further.

Well I don't really know the lyrics but I can sort of understand through the music video, like the one where suisei is in the rooftop and then vanish also at the end where she is standing in the middle of the crowds. It's hard to explain but I feel like I can understand what she is trying to convey through the video. I don't know if there is something meant to behind those scenes but it's not bad to assume.

The way i perceive ghost in a philosophical sense is perplexed. Cause, to make or believe an existence that is not existing in the non-existence world is like justifying yourself that you have something in you but in reality there is nothing. We also have this ghost feelings where we feel we are feeling something out of a non-existent paradigm.
@liath2433
@liath2433 3 года назад
ironically, they (vtubers) do exist in a non-existent paradigm
@comradeofthebalance3147

It depends on where one starts their logic. In reality, everything will fade away. Their existence becomes a non-existence but they are perceived to have existed because others acknowledge such existence in their own reality of existence. Down this long line of logic, the conclusion becomes close to 'we are who we believe to be and/or what society accepts'.

I was always under the impression that virtual youtubers straddle the line between people and characters. Some don't really play a character, some do, many are somewhere in between. But in any case, they all have a virtual identity, one that isn't "real", but with a real person behind the avatar. It creates a gray maybe between reality and fiction. It seems that Suisei sees things similarly.
