A contemporary duet for Renko Usami and Maribel Hearn. ...In the CD story for "Neo-Traditionalism of Japan," Merry suffers the loneliness of quarantine while recovering from a supernatural illness.
If you've been alive in the outside world for the past several years, you might notice some clear parallels at play. Compared to when I first started writing these lyrics, "quarantine" may be less of a headline today. But the most important message here remains... don't become complacent!

The lyrics are a reference to the lyrics in U.N. Owen Was Her? but ZUN's songs have so many similarities to each other that transitioning from one to another is possible as long as you find the right songs. I'd bet it's possible to go in a circle and return to the song you originally started with

Your lyrics really hit home how people have become complacent with the quarantine gone. Still though it makes me curious as to how they found out that Maribel has a supernatural illness and not just a normal disease. Like did they go to the doctor's and they couldn't diagnose her or did Mari just go off a hunch and quarantined herself? Now I can't stop imagining Mari sneezing once and telling Renko to stay at least 2 meters away at all times.

If I remember correctly they don't know for sure that Maribel illness is supernatural but they couldn't diagnose her. Out of fear of the unknown she was placed in a quarantine

@@Tulipia5 she did got stronger after that but it is implied that was more becuse her experience of almost being attacked in sattelite than her confinement. I 'm pretty sure she was kept at a hospital but I could be wrong.

As a thorough touhou enthusiast who played 1 to 16's demos minus 15.5, I havent read any of mariberu and uh.... RENKOOOO. UWU XD I figure this is an "alternate universe", that is its part of the main one but, it is like another "Gensokyou" inside Gensokyou, happening away from all the rest of the games, but still somehow plays of the most crucial aspects influencing the stories as such. Basically tldr i havent been reading their history but I would love to learn more about this quite dastardly of duos! :)

@@glacietheglaceon5584 It's still the same universe but not in Gensokyo itself, the Hifuu Club storyline just takes place in the 'near' future. It's kind of like our own world except twenty minutes ahead, basically. There's hotels in low-earth orbit. People have predetermined times of death because they'd live too long otherwise, alcohol is designed not to get you drunk anymore, cities are designed to look green but no natural vegetation exists anymore etc. I wouldn't say it's outright dystopian, but it definitely leans closer to it than not in the way our real world does. I think it's best viewed through a lens of "Why Gensokyo would exist" in a world that is less and less fantastical over time expressed via these two college girls who want to believe in such fantasy.

How you're able to make lyrics for a song out of Neo-Traditionalism of Japan's story is really cool, especially since it's a fast read. Merry's disease only being classified from delirium since it doesn't exist on earth, I'm surprised it was taken seriously since there only three symptoms, fever, sleep-walking and otherworldy visions, two being actual symptoms and the other being normal but would sound crazy of you explained that in real life and would probably be brushed aside. It's comical in a way.

This song was a bit on the dark side, especially given its real life parallels, yet it had an important message nonetheless. I really liked those last few lines... The reuse of "close the door and then reopen" was a great addition, as I think your cover of Nue's theme touched on some of the broader themes of Touhou while also focusing on the fear of the unknown, and said themes happen to directly relate to some of the motifs behind Maribel and Renko. And the goal to "reinvent a world forgotten" is truly a great one... I hope we can try to make the world a better place than it used to be after everything we've been through. Thank you to both Lyrica and Lori for this excellent cover!

Huh. I'd actually missed that reference, which is kinda ironic, since that was the song that introduced me to Lyrica's channel... after listening to it a number of times. ... Yet I *did* notice the 'lonely lonely, I'll be lonely" line referring to U N Owen.

@@penndragyn3728 Honestly, I only found the channel a few months back, a bit before 'Kitten of Fortune' was uploaded. Heian Alien was just the first song I stumbled across. With that said, I have listened to all the videos on Lyrica's channel at least once. I can occasionally get a bit... _enthusiastic_ about something.

Really beautiful work, love seeing some more of Renko and Merry! I actually read Neo-traditionalism's story not too long ago, and I think you absolutely nailed the vibe with the lyrics. (Also, I think I recognized some motifs from the story, such as being 40,000 moons away? I think there was something like that somewhere, I'm not sure.) Yes -- Specifically, the reference in the story is "40,000 yojana," a measurement describing the distance to Buddhist Hell (where Merry believes she is traveling in her dreams), which they then compare to the distance to the moon. It's not actually equivalent to "40,000 moons," but exaggerated to emphasize the loneliness. After all, forcing RenMerry to be even one centimeter apart is a tragedy! u_u Happy new year to you too~ I hope you're having a good one!

Heh, "lonely, lonely, I'll be lonely" from U.N. Owen and "close the door and then reopen" from Heian Alien... Clever allusions, what with Merry being attacked by a chimera (definition 1: a creature formed of parts from different animals, like the Nue; definition 2: a creature of imagination, like just about any youkai) and then being forced to spend time in isolated quarantine. I do have to say that this song hits pretty hard though... Way harder than your songs usually do... The parallels between Merry's experiences at the sanatorium and the stuff that's still somehow going on around us are quite on point. Imma have to set aside checking the thought process behind the song for later but I promise I will check it out, 'cuz it sounds like it could be quite interesting... (honestly, I kinda feel like I should set aside an afternoon to read through as many of those thoughts-behind-the-song pages as an afternoon may allow... I mean, provided you have made pages like that for your other songs -- maybe you haven't and I'm just setting aside an afternoon to read a single page... Oh well...) Aside from small cross-references, and aside from Hifuus inherently being based on a chronological series of album stories, I'm not sure how that would be done, and don't have particular ideas like that in the WIPs -- but I'll probably be thinking about it~

This easily became an instantly favorite of your lyrics for me (with the exception of Emotional Skyscrapper, that one will always have the first spot for me). The lyrics are not only really good and fit the album's story but also achieve that without affecting the flow of the song, in other words: it's super smooth~ And the reference to your Heian Alien lyrics at the end was just the cherry on top, great work. (Okay, okay. Bad pun, I know...) On a more serious note, I stumbled across one of your video for 'Heian Alien' while browsing music videos a few months ago, and while I'd heard of Touhou before, and was aware of Bad Apple and Night of Nights... MARIBEL DID YOU BRING DOWN COVID-19 FROM TORIFUNE, MARIBELLLLLLL Jokes aside, really nice song! Many lyrics feel like they can fit both Neo-Traditionalism of Japan and the COVID-19 pandemic. God what a crazy past few years it's been with pandemic happenings. But anyways, Maribel and Renko are two of my favorite characters, and Neo-Traditionalism of Japan is one of my favorite Hifuu club albums I think (I need to do a re-read/re-listen on all the albums soon), so I also enjoy those factors. As someone who did who took all the necessary precautions and caught it after masks rule was removed I caught it from someone else who was maskless and recovered from it. However I now feel a deep rage to that place and those people that which they dont have on their face. Many months a year and then some I still feel this rage to this very day.

@@kristianschuff1723 Sadly, that's not really the case. If you're wearing a mask and someone else isn't, they're the ones that are protected, not you. Masks aren't like vaccinations that boost your own immune system, masks just stop the disease from coming out of your face and into other people. Washing your hands does protect you if you touch something with your hands that was infected, and not touching your face stops it from reaching there, however, if someone that is infected breathes at you, and they're maskless, then washing your hands won't keep it from infecting you. Basically, no, you're responsible for the safety of others too.

I think I'm actually kinda weak at prose (i.e. third-person narrative description) and plot itself, but I love flavorful dialogue and first-person stuff. One recommendation that I'm particularly proud of: "Eastern Soul Word Album" - archiveofourown.org/works/35667442 It's emulating the style of an in-universe Touhou print work (the tengu's newspaper interviews). Aaaah, this one is out! Congrats for this definitive version! I always liked its unsettling vibe and you really make the most of it with the real-life parallels, the littles nods to other songs and how NToJ as a whole feels like a turning point for Maribel. Thank you for that song. It helped me to calm down, when I had a mental breakdown. Lyrics with this tone of music went to my heart without a problem. Some of them are giving me a waterfall of thoughts. Maybe this song doesn't make me feel free of pain, but surely helps in that way. Maybe a little bit makes me think that this scary word is not real. I really wants this as a truth. And the line "Lonely, lonely, I'll be lonely"... I am still listening to this song, Flandre's theme. I loved it for the first time thanks to these words... Thank you both, so much. Amazing work!

Nice catch~ Yes, it is a reference to Nue! Nue doesn't have the specific ability to cause sickness (you might be thinking of Yamame). However, Merry's illness in this story was indeed caused by a scratch from an unnamed mysterious alien chimera... on an album featuring an arrange of Nue's stage theme. I like to imagine that there might be some vague connection there.

Umm hey Miss Lyrica,i dunno if you gonna read this or not but, if you want to try translate your songs into other country languange just put English Caption There's something called AutoTranslate fiture where it will automatically translate from English into many languanges i hope this help ^^~

Hmm... Automatic translation is quite difficult for something poetic (often grammatically unusual) like lyrics in particular. While the lyrics are usually posted in the description so that people could toss them into a translator if they wanted, I don't really want to officialize an iffy translation by having it appear on the video and confuse... Still, it's true that the auto translate might benefit people and would be much better than nothing! I really like being accessible, so I'll consider it, thank you! ^^

@@lyrica-livethank you for reading suggestions,yes you're right sometimes poetic words can't described through AutoTranslate and it will turn awkwardly difference from original lyrics. But yet it kinda hard to find translators in every countries or , perhaps one day you will open translate service to your fans if you want to but i think that's gonna be difficult tho,so ig yeah you're right it's at the best right now,i just want non native english Touhou Fans understood these lyrics you've made (especially japanese) Well once again thx for reading my comment ^^ (Yes my english is pretty broken , so i tried to learn english in this channel too ^^)

No -- ZUN is famously very lax about Touhou copyright, and it's uncommon to have to ask permission to make fanwork unless it's on a big company scale. When it comes to independently-made fanwork, even selling it is generally okay (and of course, there are big conventions for that in Japan). Here are the most recently updated guidelines: touhou-project.news/guidelines_en/ One important rule is that he doesn't like people using his original assets extracted from the games. He allows any reinterpretation of his characters and music, but there must be a clear distinction of what is derivative work rather than it being mistaken for his own. Because these covers use his instrumental tracks (instead of an arrangement), I can't/shouldn't sell this music. But because they are clearly still transformative, I don't believe he would ever seek to stop them being made for technicality's sake. He'll only take action if it presents some tangible problem to the integrity of the original series. Although I specifically enjoy making lyrics that match the originals, I do soon hope to learn how to arrange, so that I can have the option of making music that I can distribute more freely! This is also one reason that we've started switching to pixel thumbnails rather than using official art. Just to make it clear that this work are derivative, and not advertise it as if it's connected to the real thing.
