attempting a translation - man with resilient youth - Considering the importance of tenouchi There is an old saying, "Don't talk about archery without knowing your tenouchi". It has been said for a long time. The tenouchi has an impact on the quality of the shot. The power of the bow itself can be used to its full extent if the bow hand is working properly. How to practise reducing the size of your hand Open the palm straight, without tilting the wrist up, down, left or right, and align the tip of the thumb with the tip of the little finger. In preparation for building up the inside of the hand, tension is applied to the front and back of the five fingers and by opening them as wide as possible, strong tension is applied to the muscles and bones on the inside and outside of the palm. When this tension is maintained and the tenouchi is completed, the tsunomi will give great strength to the hanare. The skin of the side of the thumb that is in contact with the grip should be held close to the arch, narrowing the width of the hand and pressing the left corner grip (inside) against the middle muscle of the palm. The fingertips of the three fingers of the middle, ring and little fingers are aligned and lightly placed against the right side of the grip. The top of the middle finger and the bottom of the thumb should be in close contact. The gap between the outside of the bow grip and the fingers should be about the size of an arrow. The union of the middle, ring and little fingers gives the bow grip the strength of the joint and the side of the bow grip and also helps to form a triangular gap between the outside bamboo and the bow. Let's look at the sequence of actions from the uchikoshi to the hanare. When the bow hand is pressed too hard When the bow hand is pressed too hard When the bow hand is too low When the bow hand is too far inside The upper push consists of pressing with the nut and index finger on the inner grip side and at the same time pulling the little finger wrapped around the bow forcefully forward. Understand the importance of the pulling hand in the Tenouchi When the tenouchi is working, the power of the bow can be fully released. The next time Yurumi at the Hanare YURUMI: Release of the archer's power on the right side of the body before the arrow is released (right hand goes back when the arrow is released) TSUNOMI: left hand's approach to the bow (literally: seeing the edge) bow pressure point at the base of the thumb (where the pressure is applied to the inner edge of the bow) TSUNOMI NO HATARAKI: work (function) of the left hand in archery (pressure on the inner bow edge) UCHITAKE: inner bamboo layer of the bow facing the archer HASSETSU: eight stages of shooting in ANKF/ZNKR: 1. ASHIBUMI: setting the feet, two variants:- the one-step ashibumi (ISSOKU ASHIBUMI)- the two-step ashibumi (NISOKU ASHIBUMI). CHŌJI ASHIBUMI: T-shaped ashibumi, as used in the past by Chinese foot soldiers. The left foot is placed towards the target and the right foot at a right angle to it (in the form of the kanji chō "丁"). SOTO HACHI MONJI ASHIBUMI: common today. Fan-shaped ashibumi open to the outside (like the character for "eight": 八) This type of ashibumi in use today was probably derived from the kanji for "eight" 八). 2. DŌZUKURI: stabilising the torso, strengthening the body, There are five types: central - CHŪ, forward - KUTSU, KAGAMU, backward - HAN or SORU, to the left of the target - KEN or KAKARU, to the right away from the target - TAI or NOKU. 3. yugamae: preparing the bow, consisting of grasping the string (torikake), gripping the bow (tenouchi) and looking towards the target (monomi) The position of the bow is different for SHOMEN and SHAMEN archers. UCHIOKOSHI: Raising the bow, different for Shomen (centre) and Shamen (side). 5. HIKIWAKE: Drawing the bow from the UCHIOKOSHI to the KAI, there are five types: KAMURI BIKI - in a large arc over the head, OKI O HIKU - in a large arc over the body, MINI SOETE HIKU - very close to the face, KURI BIKU - with an inside curve, NAKA O HIKU - balanced on a straight, direct path 6. KAI: full extension of the bow, physical and mental optimum before releasing the arrow 7. hanare: release of the arrow, arrow separates from the string 8. zanshin: posture of mind and body immediately after firing, body and mind left behind.
