Here's the difference: when Ritchie Blackmore was interested and motivated, he was in my view and in the view of many others, the greatest guitarist of all time. But by the time he left the band in 1993, Ritchie was rather miserable and making everyone around him even more so. In comes Steve Morse, who saves the day. Great guy, the band loved him. He is the quintessential "un-Ritchie" in terms of his easygoing personality. And he is a great veteran guitarist. But he was never an ideal fit for Deep Purple. Just like Elvis was a phenomenal singer but wouldn't be a very good fit to sing for Guns-N-Roses. Steve has to leave after almost 30 years in the band to care for his very ill wife. How can anyone say a bad word about him? But what everyone - well, almost everyone - is thinking, but doesn't want to say out loud, is that Simon is a much better fit! He's EXCITING! The last time I said that about Deep Purple, Ritchie was in the band and Gillan could still hit most of his highest notes. Nothing phony about Simon. He is the real deal, and we've waited a long time for it!

@@MrRugbyloosehead so tell me, is your penchant for being abrasive when addressing strangers a personality disorder, or are you trying to prove the irony that there's very little that's "social" about social media? Music is a matter of taste, so it's pointless to try to prove "right and wrong" and even though I'm often in the minority taste-wise, I'm certainly not when it comes to how Simon's arrival is a godsend - a much-needed shot-in-the-arm to the world's greatest band as most are approaching 80.

The age has come to him my friend; and it will come to us too.

Show some respect. He is a legend and you are what?

​@@antoniopaiva9780 Haemorrhoids? I worked on Gillan's 1982 tour. He strained his throat so bad that he would throw up in the band room sink after gigs. One night he missed the sink and we all got splattered!
