The apt looks awesome; however, it's not a typical residential apartment (or condo) of Shanghai. The apt shown in the video is more like something called "apartment hotel", which is recognized as a commercial property rather than a residential one according to local authority. The differences between the two kinds are: 1. A typical residential apartment has a separated kitchen, which has a door connected to living room. In this apt, the kitchen is part of living room, which is very common in North America but not in Shanghai. 2. A typical Shanghai apartment has windows in both North and South directions: Living room and master bedroom are usually facing South while kitchen, bathroom and, in some units, guest room (or study room) are facing North. The bathroom in the video doesn't have a window at all, which is rare in Shanghai residential buildings. But those units of "Apartment hotels" are designed in this way: only one side of the unit has windows, that's say, bathroom and kitchen don't have any window. 3. A Shanghai local apartment has at least one balcony, being accessible either from living room or master bedroom. Residents dry their clothes by hanging them there. The apt in the video doesn't have a balcony and its wide windows look more like commercial buildings (Personally speaking, I prefer this wide / high ceiling window style though. :P) 4. The video shows a few central A/C outlets when presenting their small study room. Since the apartment doesn't have a balcony, the central A/C system should be supported by the building, which is also a character of 'apartment hotel' unit. 5. Last but not the least, the high ceiling loft style is VERY rare in residential buildings but common in "apartment hotel units". In summary, according to me, the apt in video is not a typical Shanghai local apartment. Most local Shanghai residents are not living in apartments of this kind. Honestly, it looks more like North American style except for missing stove/oven, dishwasher, dryer etc. BUT, it's still a very clean, cozy and spacious place for a young couple to live in. Being full of sunlight will be a great advantage in terms of the humid winter in Shanghai!
I have been in ShANGHAI 3 YEARS,welcome to shanghai,it is a big and fun city
I am not sure about the apt in NY but most of apts in SH has no heating but it should has AC and you gonna enjoy the winter of SH. LOL. Kat is so cute~ welcome to my hometown! It's an amazing city! Hope you will like it. Don't forget to try the fantastic food there. There are two very good restaurants I think I can highly recommend which make excellent ShangHainese food. One is called 老吉士(LAO JI SHI) in the Xuhui district the original one. Another is called 德兴馆(DE XING GUAN) located at Huang Xing district nearby the People Square and its first floor is for the noodle second floor is for the people who would like to order dishes. Actually 德兴馆 is not faraway South Yun Nan Road where has lots of long history restaurants and traditional snack shops. 小绍兴的三黄鸡,大胡春的生煎~ local people love it. I really don't know how to translate it SID gonna figure it out. HAHA. OMG I miss SH so much. Any way~ hope you will have very nice trip in SH. 66666.
I think this apartment is one of those "commercial to residential" type, judging from the big office windows in the apartment. I think it should be less expansive than the normal apartment, so I'll put my estimate for the rent at 9000 RMB.
she obviously hasn't seen much in the US either ... and it's call furnished apartments -- do exist in the US as well. 淮海西路一带老房子, 专修一下, 10000 一个月, 比这个小. 20, 30 平米.
