Same haha. I'm a little younger, probably, but i definitely nerded out to classic TWC in the late 90s as a 3rd/4th grader and never really stopped. I discovered vaporwave about a year ago and was like "oh, guess it wasn't just me"
I keep having to remind myself that it was never simple, never easy, and the thing that makes this hit so hard (aside from being baller) is that it's so nostalgic compared to all the changes in the world since then. I can't let myself stagnate or yearn for a time that does not exist now-- but lord, this hits hard.
@@jacobjb What it does have corp is that, despite not having the best sampling, it is versatile in the styles it handles and even varied in its production on some albums, but waterfront dining has literally been stuck in the same style for years, not evolving at all. not even in its production.

I came here from Nexpo : After Hours. This stuff just sounds so nostalgic. I was born in 1991 so I got to be a part of that shift from 80s to 90s culture. It's nostalgic AF for me.
I was heavily listening to this during quarantine and now I have such a strange association to it. It's sad that so many awful things happened in 2020, it was a pretty scary time for me, but it was also the beginning of my journey going back to college. Now, I've officially graduated from college and I'm starting my first professional job in a few weeks. So, there's a huge range of emotions swelling up inside me now as I listen to it. It's stupid because it's just music from the damn Weather Channel, but I can't help but tear up and reminisce listening to it.
This album is such a joy to listen to. It reminds me of the wedding trip me and my family went to in 1991. I was 12 years old. I remember hating the whole trip and I spent one whole day just inside the hotel room. For a whole hour, I was just listening to background smooth jazz music in the local announcement station. The channel has similar background like the one in this video. Plants in each side and announcements of events just flashing in the screen.
Nothing beats listening to Weather Channel vaporwave and actual Local On The 8s from the 90s while watching a severe thunderstorm rage on outside my window.
we'd smoke weed early in the morning before school, and leave the weather channel on and just stare at the screen... Obviously at the time, we knew the music was "lame" but for some reason deep down, we knew that it sure didn't sound lame. To think the genre grew from this stuff blows my mind to bits.It is just so weird how our brains work, and the nuance of fetishized interests.

This album makes me remember back when I was a little kid and all I did was sit in front of the T.V watching The Weather Channel and just enjoying the music they've played.
Corp makes the most perfect vaporware albums, the nostalgia I get from their music is like no other, would love to see their take on a poolside vibe album
holy shit I just had actual REAL nostalgia with the SoCal K-Earth 101 jingle at 9:30 ; born and raised in LA, they still use the same jingle melody! AND they are a purely 80s-90s station, so I remember as a kid listening specifically to that station with my parents during the summertime and that's how I've heard all the classic 80's songs that I hear sampled in vaporwave now :)

This actually feels like Sunday television in the 90s though. It's a beautiful day out, but kinda hot, so you're not playing outside even though you really ought to be, and you're rewarded with boring good-weather TWC and infomercials on the local channels while your mom cleans around you, never suspecting you would ever feel nostalgia for this moment.

Some years ago when I was 18-20, I used to watch the weather channel because I was afraid of storms and wanted to stay in in case of one. And I really really enjoyed the music! Now I turn on the weather channel and wonder what happened to weather on the 8s. The music accompanying the radar map was the highlight of the channel. 😔

I'm really drawn to the effects given to the vocals in records like this one. Robustom does this wonderfully, particularly on "Public Broadcasting Service." It's haunting in a way, but sounds as if they're submerged and rising to the surface nonetheless. Syrupy goodness.
