When we lived in England, my hunsband must buy a lot of honey stewed fried tofu every time we back to China. I thought this is very simple, the key to its deliciousness is to fry. If you like the tender tofu, you can cut it thicker and fry less for a while. If you like the chewy tofu, you can cut it thinner and fry for a little longer. And it is also quick to make marinade, especially you have the old brine. I made two flavors this time, one is the honey stewed fried tofu, which is a traditional taste from Suzhou, the other is the spicy braised fried tofu. This snack is perfect for watching TV series or drinking beer.
▋Recipes
piece of firm tofu(400g)
1 star anise
1 bay leaf
piece of Chinese cinnamon stick
1/4 tsp fennel seeds
1/2 piece of dried citrus peel
2 tbsp light soy sauce
20g rock sugar
1/2 tbsp oil
Honey flavor:
salt
3 tbsp honey
Spicy:
1 tsp broad bean paste
2 tsp crushed chili
1/2 tsp szechuan pepper powder
1/4 tsp cumin powder
1tsp toasted white sesame
2 tbsp oil
