我是誰
Who am I?
這一個問題很奇妙
This question is quite interesting -
我自己我是誰不知道嗎
Who doesn't know who one is?
自己就是不知道
But in fact we really don't know.
有一個趣談
There is a funny story.
有一個旅行的人
A traveler
這錯過了旅店
couldn't find a hotel
不曉住到哪裡
to sleep over.
鄉下有一個土地廟
He saw a temple in a rural area.
就到這個小廟裡面神壇下面
So he slept under a shrine in the temple
權且住一宿
to put up for the night.
明天就趕路啦
As he needed to hurry on his trip
the next day,
好 住下來了
he had no choice but spent
the night there.
想不到到了半夜
He never knew that at midnight,
忽然有一個小鬼
there suddenly appeared a small ghost
揹了一個屍體
who piggybacked a corpse,
也跑到這個土地廟裡面來
and it entered the temple.
這一個人
The traveler
這一下不得了了
was stunned
遇見鬼啦
by what he saw!
正在驚慌的時候
Still petrified with terror,
有一個高大的鬼
he saw another tall ghost
也匆匆的趕來
who stormed in the temple,
就責備小鬼
blaming the small ghost:
他 你把我的屍體
Why did you take my corpse
揹來這裡幹什麼
over here?
小鬼就抗議說
The small ghost countered:
他 這是我的
This is mine,
怎麼是你的呢
not yours!
就兩個鬼就在僵持不下
The two ghosts argued over there.
嚇得這個旅行的人在神龕下面
The sight sent cold shivers running down
the back of the traveler
就顫抖啦
who hid under the shrine.
小鬼一看 這裡還一個人
The small ghost spotted the man,
出來出來
so it asked him to come out, saying:
很好 幫我們做個證明
Good! Please help us vindicate
你看到這個屍體誰揹的來的
by telling us what you saw -
who actually carried the corpse in here?
這個人心頭想
The man thought:
我現在幫忙小鬼說話
If I say it was the small ghost,
大鬼不會饒過我
the big ghost wouldn't forgive me.
如果我幫大鬼說話是說謊
If I say it was the big ghost,
I would be a liar.
看起來今天難逃劫數
Seem that I can't get out of it today.
人之將死 其言也善
When a man is near death
he speaks from his heart.
還是說一句真實的話
So he chose to speak the truth:
他 這個屍體是小鬼的
The corpse was brought in
by the small ghost.
大鬼一聽就生氣啦
The big ghost became furious.
就上前去
It advanced on him,
就把這個人的膀子拔下來
took down his left arm
咯嚕 就拿來吃下去
and devoured it.
小鬼一看 唉呀 糟糕
The small ghost couldn't bear seeing
這個人幫我說話
the man who was on its side
你看那個膀子給大鬼吃了
being eaten by the big ghost.
那怎麼辦呢
What did it do to help him?
屍體上有個膀子
As the corpse had the left arm,
那就替他接上去
it took it down and jointed it to his body.
大鬼還在生氣
The big ghost who was still angry
把右邊的膀子又要拔下來
pulled down his right arm
又吃了
and gobbled it up.
小鬼把屍體上的右的膀子
The small ghost took the right arm
from the corpse
又替他接上去
and jointed it to his body.
總之這個人都給大鬼吃了
The whole body of the man was
gradually eaten up by the big ghost.
小鬼把這一個屍體替這個人
So the small ghost used
the body parts of the corpse
也統統都接起來了
to replace the missing parts of the man.
等於現在醫生
This is like a modern transplant
所謂換肝、換腎臟、換皮膚
of liver, kidney or skin.
甚至替這個人
After all the replacement,
都換了一個人了
the traveler simply became
a new man.
兩個鬼這麼惡作劇
The caper ended with the two ghosts
呼嘯而去
stalking off the temple,
留下來這一個人
leaving the man alone.
一個嚴重的問題
He then faced a serious problem.
什麼問題
What problem?
我是張三
Suppose the man was named
Zhang so-and-so,
我住在臺灣某地
living somewhere in Taiwan.
現在都
Now,
這個不是我的
the body was not his,
張三也給那鬼吃啦
as Zhang so-and-so was already
eaten by the ghost.
現在我 我是誰
So he thought: Who am I?
他覺悟到
He realized that
原來這個身體是假相
the body was an illusion.
不是我
It was not his.
除了這個假的以外
Apart from illusion
有個真我
there lies a true self -
有個真如佛性不變的
the unchanging True Suchness
of Buddha nature.
所以希望我們這佛教講無我
Buddhism says non-self
並不是叫你自殺、叫你毀滅
doesn't mean to ask you to commit suicide,
or destroy yourself.
不是
No.
要知道這個是一個虛假的軀殼
You should know that
this is just an illusive body.
真我的真如佛性你能要找到它
What you need to find is
True Suchness of Buddha nature,
要把真我找到
your true self.
我是誰
Who am I?
希望大家找到自己的本來面目
Hope you can find
your own original nature.
