"The Black Panther is an animal [that] comes out fighting for life or death" --존 휴렛 LCFO 의장 ->> 번역/의역해 보면 "블랙 팬서는 나와 생사를 건 투쟁을 하는 동물이다." On October 29, 1966, Stokely Carmichael - a leader of SNCC - championed the call for "Black Power" and came to Berkeley to keynote a Black Power conference. At the time, he was promoting the armed organizing efforts of the Lowndes County Freedom Organization (LCFO) in Alabama and their use of the Black Panther symbol. Newton and Seale decided to adopt the Black Panther logo and form their own organization called the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense.
I've carried Huey Newton's book "To Die for the People" in my backpack for nearly 10 years thru my college and grad school years in the 90s. He was my non white American Hero, as a non white person myself. I strongly recommend for you to watch "Huey P Newton Story" I think directed by Spike Lee and played by Roger G. Smith. it was a one man show done in one of the old jazz clubs in San Francisco when I was living there. It might have been the Boom Boom Room but I am no longer sure as my old brain is dull. Unlike Seal or Brown tho, Huey eventually went back to school and got a phD in Sociology and taught at UC system for years as well. I think the idea Huey was a violent person based on his juvenile record is not only unfair, but misconstrued. Huey was a very deep thinker who became an academic in latter years, and contrary to the official narrative about him being killed by some gang related issues, here in America, us the non whites mostly believe he was murdered by FBI as his coroner's report does not show any drugs in his system while the cops made him a coke addict, and cocaine deal that went bad as his cause of death. Many of his close friends, including his white co-workers at the university reported how leading up to his death, Huey started to look and act anxious and scared, telling people around him that he is being followed constantly by people driving a black car...... As for Fred Hampton, the FBI left him alone when he was all about empowering the blacks, since black people had no power economically or politically. but they killed him when he started to make alliance with white working class in impoverished Southside of Chicago. The name of the local white gangs escape me now but worth looking it up, if you are interested in the rest of Fred Hampton's legacy outside of the movie. Again, Always enjoy your take on America that isn't taught in America.
I'd say I felt let down by Kim J Y's very limited & I'd even say misleading portrayal of Huey P. Newton. I'd say she even got the motive of his murder by 25-year-old Black Guerilla Family member Tyrone Robinson all wrong. "During those long years in Oakland public schools, I did not have one teacher who taught me anything relevant to my own life or experience. Not one instructor ever awoke in me a desire to learn more or to question or to explore the worlds of literature, science, and history. All they did was try to rob me of the sense of my own uniqueness and worth, and in the process nearly killed my urge to inquire." --- from 'Revolutionary Suicide', Huey Newton's autobiography published in 1973.
흑표당의 창시명[創始名]은 the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense 라고 알고 있습니다. The Ten-Point Program or The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense Ten-Point Platform and Program is a party platform written by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966 for the Black Panther Party. 1. We want freedom. We want power to determine the destiny of our Black and oppressed communities. 2. We want full employment for our people. 3. We want an end to the robbery by the capitalist of our Black and oppressed communities. 4. We want decent housing, fit for the shelter of human beings. 5. We want education for our people that exposes the true nature of this decadent American society. We want education that teaches us our true history and our role in the present-day society. 6. We want completely free health care for all Black and oppressed people. 7. We want an immediate end to police brutality and murder of Black people, other people of color, all oppressed people inside the United States. 8. We want an immediate end to all wars of aggression. 9. We want freedom for all Black and poor oppressed people now held in U.S. federal, state, county, city and military prisons and jails. We want trials by a jury of peers for all persons charged with so-called crimes under the laws of this country. 10. We want land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice, peace and people’s community control of modern technology.
Hugh Pearson이 쓴 책 'The Shadow of the Panther(흑표법의 그림자): Huey Newton and the Price of Black Power in America' 북 리뷰 --->> In a devastating, compelling inside look at the Black Panthers, the militant party launched in 1966 that preached armed resistance to white racism and police brutality, Pacific News Service editor Pearson challenges the view that the Panthers were destroyed by a conspiracy of police informants and FBI agents provocateurs. The author, who is African American, extensively interviewed party veterans and their associates, concluding that the Panthers' downfall was due primarily to internal corruption, factionalism and the criminal behavior of members. Party cofounder Huey Newton, murdered in West Oakland, Calif., in 1989, was, by this account, a longtime severe cocaine and alcohol addict who siphoned off many of the funds earmarked for free breakfast programs, schools and clinics. Pearson charges that Newton organized hit squads to engage in wanton murder, while his elite cadre of enforcers shook down local businesses for contributions and extorted money from pimps and drug dealers. This often shocking report, which opens with a masterful chronicle of the civil rights movement, strips away nostalgic myths surrounding the Panthers.
