Kilmartin Glen, Argyll, Exploring Scotland's History
19 sites with over 5000 years of history!
A whistlestop tour from Achnabreck graveyard to 'The Danish King's Grave' at Kintraw. Viewing ancient architecture, standing stones, 'rock art', archaeological finds, and learning of the history and tradition along the way. With around 800 monuments in the glen, we have dipped our toe in. Watch out for other sites in the area, as they will be posted up as seperate entities!
If you enjoyed the video, please like, comment and share, it really helps the channel. If you subscribe, you won't miss my next adventure!
Some viewers have requested a link to donate, to assist me on my way to these far flung sites. I will be very grateful and humbled, and any monies recieved will help fuel Cecil the Scudo and myself to go the extra mile in search of historical gems for the viewer. Thank you x

Hellp again Julie. This was a brilliant video, and the fact that it was not bucketing with rain and force 10 gales make it even better. When I was young and lived in Lerags, I took all this for granted, and it is only in my old age, that I wish I had gone to these sights more often! I have always had a fascination with graveyards, and the effort the people who constructed these places, must have worked very hard to erect them. Today, we have machinery to help us construct things, but how they actually constructed many of these sites, gathering stone and bringiing them to the site is mind boggling too! Your videos are very, very well put together and researched, and thankyou for taking the time to post them to the You Tube, allowing oldies like myself who have twisted feet to enjoy them, and I am truelly grateful. ...old Tich.

Really interesting video Julie. I found the history behind the stone circles and burial sites fascinating. How great would it be to travel back in time and see what life was really like back then!

Thanks for watching! I think if we travelled back we might be pleasantly surprised at how comfortably living was for our ancient ancestors, despite the ideas we might have.....

Can you imagine them being stone maps of the area.
@ExploringScotlandsHistory
@ExploringScotlandsHistory 3 года назад
Thats an idea, though I imagine most of the hundreds of archaeologists that have visited here have superimposed the art on maps of the area, and star formations, and all manner of things. I think they appear more magical because we really can only use our own imagination to think what they were used for. Thanks for watching!!

That was a lot of work and incredibly interesting. As for the sheep, they just wanted their 5 minutes of fame!

Yes, it took most of the day lol, but so much of the landscape is worth mentioning!

Awesome video! Did you walk between most of these sites from Achnabreck or did you drive between most of the stops? It looks like there’s a good concentration in certain areas but others are more spread out.
@ExploringScotlandsHistory

Walking and driving combined. Kilmartin Glen is a highly concentrated area of ancient monuments, but there's a wee distance between others!

I'm just a weirdo who believes we should all live and let live. Whatever your belief, if it gives you peace, and doesn't impact others in a negative way, go for it I say!! I have other videos on our ancient Scottish stones, check them out 😉 Thanks for watching.

Thank you, new subscriber here, heading to Kilmartin sometime in the next few weeks, as part of my current Scotland tour, I’m in a small van....any recommendations for stopping places as near to the Glen as possible (I don’t do camp sites) ?? . Thanks again ⭐️

Welcome to the channel! Achnabreck, where we had lunch is a forestry carpark which welcomes responsible vanners. It's also the "Gateway to the Glen" so an ideal starting point.

I'm going to say the concentric circles aren't sperm and eggs. Not sure how they'd have known what they look like. What are they really?? No clue.

There are many books on the subject. I merely listed all the different opinions. I have my own opinion, as do you, we have no proof who may need right, if anyone. I think it adds to the spiritual feeling folk often experience when exploring 'rock art'.
