This highly entertaining video was clearly given thumbs down votes by Mel Gibson, a few royal marines, the French, the Italians, several pharmaceutically dependant children who now forever sleep on the floor with the lights on, 2 polar bears and an elephant. For me however, this was one of the easiest clips to give a thumbs up to I have ever watched. Thanks for posting!
A true British NCO, strength of character, a sense of humour and scared of no one or no thing. He made me laugh more than any comedian I have seen for years all the while refreshing my education. Well done that man!
This gentleman was a Sergeant Major in the British Army. Its simply not worth trying to one up such a man. They've seen it all before. Many times. Seen it and done it. Don't even try. Simply enjoy the benefit of his many years of experience and his sense of humour.
Cynically this man was worth an absolute fortune to his employers...I prefer to think, (as is equally likely the truth), he's a natural teacher...as befits a man of his previous occupation...gotta love him...one of the best of the best...
I especially loved the Aussie smart Alecs being told to shut up or go away, nearby parents of a screaming child being yelled at to shut it up, and his take on the French and Italians. I'm an Aussie, and the Poms have the greatest sense of humor in the world, bar none. These clips are totally priceless - if only history were taught this way. Thank you for the post.
The thing I enjoyed most about visiting England was the zany sense of humor. This Yeoman was not untypical. I never stopped laughing the entire time I was there, and most of the humor was self deprecating.
fair play to this yeoman, its his job to make sure EVERYONE in his group can hear , he wasnt taking any crap from the people who are just theer to balls things up or ace a smart ass , hats of sir ;o)
I am busy. I accidentally clicked on the link to this video. I thought I might see a minute of it, but then I just had to see all of it, it was that good. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Thanks for sharing the video with all, and three cheers for that Yeoman.
I love the fact that all Yeomans have to be at least ex-Sergeant majors, with an unblemished record over 22 years of service, usually Warrant Officers. First Class (A WO1)
Its 'Yeomen' actually... but yeah, you could tell this guy used to be a Sergeant Major. Actually at the beginning he sounded just like a history teacher I had at school. Scary! lol
Billy was a national hero. He was a GSM of the British Army (Senior enlisted member of the Armed Services) and my friend. He was loved, adored, respected, and idolized. Which is significant when you see this video. Unless you look carefully, you will miss his humility and the honor he felt in this position as A Chief Yeoman Warder in the Tower of London. Watch again, and witness a real, honest hero being just another guy.
A Service man of great distinction and character .A ex Sargent Major couldn't you tell .He seems to enjoy his new roll as a fantastic and dedicated ambassador of our Great Country . bravo sir.
I used to work as a chef in the Tower guardrooms circa 1988--90....Harry was probably still serving in the regular army then so didn't see any of his palace tours.....a true star.....keep it up young sir....we honour your strength and honesty and yes...your story telling makes the info stick in my mind...WELL DONE...!!
I reckon this is the best version of his tour. In this one, he hasn't been 'toned down' and made to be more 'PC' (Politically Correct). Superb story teller. :-)
I only wish my history teachers were as well versed and as bloody funny, althought they must have taught me something because without some prior knowledge one might have looked for something else to watch. Simply brilliant, only wish I knew who he was, and when this footage was shot. Give the man another medal !! And yes I am am Australian.
Oh, he is funny, My son is army and sometimes when his voice gets louder and louder I say, " this isn't a parade ground" When he yelled at those kids, wow that booming voice.
Can you imagine the stories these guys could tell...I have been writing books for a couple of years and would love to write down some of their stories from their previous military lives...sadly...as we lose the old soldiers...we also lose their stories.....always thought that someone should be recording them for posterity..??!!
I'm an American and have English blood in my veins my nana great nana and aunt were all from London I hope to 1 day visit London thank you for sharing this funny video love from across the pond
@@SimSim-zf9if excuse me my nana is my mom's mom I'm more english then you aviously because you sir have NO manners to speak of I'm proud to be an American and of my family heritage bugger off
@@tonywilkinson6895 yes we do need to know where we come from I've always felt this pull to England and I believe it's because of my nana and great nana
Wow, I could listen to that man for hours, He certainly has a passion for his job. He is a credit to his uniform. Although i do wish he would've explained why one tower in particular twists in the opposite direction to the others. I guess i can google it but it won't be as entertaining as this chap telling me why.
This is awesome. What an obnoxious American going "and the relevance is?" but otherwise great tour. This guy is hilarious... "...and I'm sure the Royal Marines can tell you where."
Claire Thorsdottir Why do you suggest it was obnoxius Americans? You have something against us? Because not all American's are obnoxious and don't act like you are better. Every country has Obnoxious people in it.
Gold Leader Just ignore the idiot ,I'm English and have spent many holidays in the USA ,and all the English /British people I've spoken to all say how nice and friendly the Americans are,👍👍👍👍👍
If someone is being obnoxious and they are American then they are by correct use of the English Language 'an obnoxious American' as in 'That obnoxious American over there'. Those being a bit 'sensitive' should maybe understand the OP did not say 'Americans are obnoxious' let alone 'all Americans are obnoxious'. Maybe read what is written?
soflo23 I'm not speaking for this lady but to me Its just a stereotype (she probably has only seen Americans on t.v. or RU-vid). Dont get upset. Every American i've meet were actually delightful, caring ,humble and intelligent people.
It's been more then 15 years ago since I made the tower tour in London which was guided by one of the beefeaters (?). It was interesting, funny and entertaining. Those guys really make a good job and I am fondly remembering it even after all those years.
by heck he was brilliant and 22 years for queen and country, but alas one thinks one should have tread the boards not one with a trap door I may say, you would have been a millionaire by now ,brilliant!!
Can you imagine this man,who clearly had some sort of recruit training background ,interacting with Lee Ermey ? Two alpha males trying one-upmanship on each other, trying hard to crack the other up. Unlikely to happen, but Oh Lordy,it would have been hilarious. A real character, this one. Demented Scots indeed. Another Irish wordsmith. And damn proud of it too. Good for him.
@@anghinetti In fact there also professional tour guides who are allowed into the Tower, but they do their tours in foreign languages. This has created problems sometimes as they are not always aware of what happens within the Tower. One such guide didn't take any notice of the Guard to the Word who couldn't get past his group. Apparently he was so absorbed in what he was telling them and of course the group didn't understand English either. A yeoman warder was furious and demanded to see his official guide number and badge, so probably that put an end to his career.
Thank you for posting this. :) I enjoyed the commentary and history lesson very much. ^_^ It added to my knowledge of random and sometimes useless facts.
+Mary Ann Wittkowske : He did stand by the place where they were executed and talked about it at length. The video couldn't show where they were buried because filming/photos are not allowed inside the chapel. (BTW, his info about Jane Seymour was wrong. She was not 6 months pregnant when they married, (she gave birth over a year after the wedding) and she lived 2 weeks after giving birth.)
@madam49er. And Henry and Anne of Cleves did not marry by proxy and first met in Rochester, Kent where Henry decided to go incognito, and surprise the poor woman. Unfortunately no longer being love's young dream, Henry shocked rather than delighted her and she did not act according to the script. Nor did she run his household after the divorce. Also Katherine's lovers Culpepper and Dereham, were executed before she was beheaded. I have always thought it unfair Culpepper, who was the one who committed adultery with was beheaded, and Dereham was hanged, drawn and quartered.
Tourists think yeoman and the queens guard are simply gimmicks or a tourist attraction. Most of them have no idea the guard are acting soldiers and the yeoman are all very experienced, high ranking officers.
