Just walking through the streets of Centro, on a Saturday afternoon, with my friend Kenny. We pass through an interesting commercial area called El Hueco . The name "El Hueco" means "the hole" in Spanish and refers to the large hole or gap that was left in the urban fabric of the city after a massive fire in 1972 destroyed several blocks of buildings in the area.
After the fire, informal vendors began setting up makeshift stalls in the vacant lots, and over time, the area became a bustling commercial district known for its low prices and wide variety of goods. Today, El Hueco is a popular destination for both locals and tourists looking for bargains on clothing, shoes, electronics, and other goods.
While El Hueco has a reputation for being a bit chaotic and crowded, many visitors appreciate the energy and excitement of the area. However, it's important to keep in mind that pickpocketing and other petty crime can be a problem in crowded areas like El Hueco, so it's wise to take precautions such as keeping valuables secure and staying aware of your surroundings.
