Speak French with Confidence with my 4-step methodology: bit.ly/3qMPU7L
Prepositions are hard to get right. Most of the time you need to just memorise which ones go where. But let's take a moment to appreciate those rare occasions when there are rules that help us out. Furthermore, in this video I talk about a rule with NO EXCEPTIONS. So, once you learn it, you can be confident in using it and always being right. As long as you follow the rule. It's so simple and I'm so exicted to bring it to you!
Watch and let me know what you think.

Pour comprendre, you need to watch today's video! What other prepositions give you trouble?

I live in france for two years now and have followed many french courses. Also alliance français, français avec pierre and lots more. You are definitely the better teacher to understand. You make it all so easy, the way you explain things. Thank you

An idiomatic expression with "pour" you should know: "the reason why..."="la raison POUR laquelle..."

Only just seen this video, super helpful as usual! I've just searched to see if you have covered the difference between "Lorsque" and "Quand" and if not, perhaps this might be one you might cover? 🙂

Good idea! To be completely honest, I don't know the difference...yet. Lorsque seems more formal.

Why use faire for meditate ( je fais de la méditation) instead of saying je médite ? If we are trying to make it simpler to understand the end of this sentence, why make the beginning harder? Ps, thank you for these explanations. You are the only tutor who has attempted to connect these translations, but now I have more questions Lol😂. My next question would be, do you use faire for ALL activities ? If not, why not? Thanks again.

Pour is like the Spanish word "para" or the same word use in tagalog language. "Para" in my language means "in order to/to be", e.g Kakain ako ng marami para may lakas ako buong araw. Which translate to "I am going to eat a lot -so that- (para) I will have the energy for the whole day. Now I will never forget lol.

J'ai aime mon voyage de camping! (I learned the words camping and tent, which are funnily the same in English.) I also made use of pour - "pour me brosser les dents, j'ai besoin d'eau. est-ce que vous brosser le dents, aussi? je cherche l'eau, tu te peut aider moi? s'il vous plait."
@FrenchinPlainSight
@FrenchinPlainSight 5 лет назад
@@garychisholm2418 Super ! Yes, camping is one of those -ing words that the French have stolen but not changed the meaning of :D. A little correction: "Est-ce que vous vous brosser les dents" (you used "je me" well, you need to do the same with "vous". "Tu peux m'aider ?" Aider requires a direct object (who to help), which in this case is "me" (French) and goes in front of the verb it affects.

lol first rule i have EVER come across with zero exceptions!! Nice!! I have a question that's not to do with pour, but with one of the example sentences. You said « N'hésitez pas à me rappeler. », and before you gave the translation, i read that to mean "Don't hesitate to REMIND me." How would i say that, then? Would i need to add le (« N'hésitez pas à me LE rappeler. »)? Or is it just one of those times where you have to just discern the meaning from the context from the context?

When do you use 'pour' and when 'pour que + subjunctive'?
@richhdelaney
@richhdelaney Год назад
Do you know where I could find literal translations online? I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. I feel like the reason learning foreign language is hard, is because it's different from learning your first language. Your first language is learned by understanding nouns and piecing them together picture books (I guess if your parents did that). If I understand the words of a foreign language, literally, then I can form a baseline to later understand what they mean idiomatically with time. However, if I'm assigned meanings to sentences, and I do not know how the individual words relate, then I don't learn.

Alex. I’m not sure about pour = in order to 100%. After aller and venir I think it’s just omitted. Je suis venu te rendre visite. Not “pour” te rendre visite, even though “in order to” is implied. Can a native speaker clarify this, please? Otherwise great lesson as always. 😊
