What a stunning penultimate round of the Six Nations and to break it down with Payno and Tinds are the crowing Ben Kayser (sans his yellow gloves) and Shane Horgan.
The boys deconstruct England's record defeat with Tinds really trying not to go in hard - he fails.
Ben tells us how he'll delight in the victory whilst eating rosbif at his English father-in-law's and reveals what it was like watching that game at Twickenham sat between English rugby royalty, and, Shane revels in Josh van der Flier and Cian Healy's hooking duties.
The guys also discuss the gulf between the Premiership and Test rugby and recall the worst defeats in their careers, surprise surprise Tinds can’t remember it!

First time I have viewed this channel and found it hugely enjoyable. (For full disclosure I am an Irish). Great for us geeks to have an in-depth conversation about the 6N matches and teams. All contributors excellent. Have missed Alex on Sky as he was always a consummate professional - knowledgeable about the game but also a superb interviewer. Benjamin a joy to listen to - passionate, proud but very humble and objective. Know Shaggy from listening to him on Irish TV for many years and always value his insights. Mike Tindall very honest about England's travails of late, so huge respect (even if I'm not convinced by his suggestions for the weekend 😁). I would love if the guys could discuss this topic in another video. As I understand it, the English RFU has had to cut funding massively to the lesser tiers of the English game over recent years, yet the execs of the RFU have increased their salaries and paid themselves full bonuses during this period , while the national team has been in decline. How are those people still in place? Who votes them in or out? The Welsh Rugby Union could be discussed in the same video! Thanks again for a great discussion.

Great panel, Ben Kayser is a great regular addition. England need to keep to the coachs’ plan. Win on Saturday would be amazing, but getting into quarters and semis at least in World Cup is more important. No need for knee jerk over reaction and bringing in older players with limited reach into 2024. Borthwick and Co have had little time with an essentially young team, where young players are finally getting their chances.

You say Wales didn't create anything, but they did. You make your own luck and only get the odd bounce of the ball if you create the chances for it to happen. Rio Dyer chased EVERY kick hard. Webb had some amazing kicks, including a sweet 50/22. There were several lucky bounces and moments for Ireland and France this weekend, but let's ignore that. Always seems to be such a fucking downer on Wales.

Yeah. World Rankings are famously based on the odd lucky bounce. What luck did ireland get? A try chalked off after a Scotland infringement? Losing 5 players to injury? Needing to use a prop at hooker and an openside to throw in the lineout? Scotland not being carded when they probably should’ve for repeated infringements on their own line? And France? That was an absolute beat down but you think it was luck? Open your other eye ffs.

Englands pack just didn’t compete. Maybe they’re not physically big enough but so many of them didn’t even get stuck in which either says a poor mentality or a poor game plan/inability to adapt. Re watching the game it wasn’t all of them and Willis and Curry both grafted and competed so it’s unfair to blame just the back row for losing the contact area. But the backs don’t deserve to be let off the hook as many claim. Italy, Scotland and now France have opened up our midfield defence. Not having secure and quick ball explains why our attack was poor but it doesn’t explain 7 tries.
@WalsallGooner
@WalsallGooner Год назад
It’s a tricky one to point to. England looked very 2nd rate and the physicality wasn’t there from forwards to backs. it could be that the conditioning is not on par with what France and Ireland are doing, their coaching structure is also superior. Losing 2 Premiership clubs will also Impact the schedule where clubs are not playing each week, I also feel that the current crop of young blood is not Elite level yet and we kid ourselves too much with the hype when we and the media pressure that said players should start

To be honest Scotland played an already injured Finn Russell who was injured playing for Racing the week before which really destroyed Scotlands attack formations, Scotland was good for keeping Ireland only 1 try at half time, a fully loaded Scotland with no injury to Russell would have been a different game Gray and Gilchrist did not help matters in the pack or line-out and from an Irishman remember Scotland has 38k registered players vs Ireland registered players 158k Ireland will be compared to France and ABs good team is Ireland but the Scots are not crappie
@Dreyno
@Dreyno Год назад
Russell was moving fine until close to coming off. Ireland lost 3 forwards in the first half to injury, Scotland were at home and still lost by 3 scores. That’s 8 in a row Scotland have lost to Ireland. The idea that it “would’ve been a different game” goes both ways. If ireland hadn’t had so many injuries it could’ve been worth another 10 points on the board. As for the playing numbers, Ireland’s figures are artificially high because the IRFU counted everyone and their dog to boost the figure to get government funding. It includes kids, tag rugby, touch rugby and anything that looks or smells like rugby. We actually have a fairly small senior male rugby figure. Every country tends to count differently. Scotland has 143 clubs, Ireland has 199. The figures just don’t add up with the figures you quoted.

That's the problem with giving the fans "what they want" is most "fans" watch 5 games a year, and when they do watch they aren't sober and they frankly are utterly clueless about what makes a team work. The rea,listy is the "fans" aren't really fans at all, they are parrottsd for journalists with Agenda's. Smith is a classic example of this, he simply cannot defend, yet you have half cut idiots "he made 10 tackles on Saturday" So fucking what! he made 10 tackles and he got knocked 10 yeards backwards on 8 of them and his decision making was terrible, he causes so many problems for the people either side of him because he's so passive and timid, he never attacks the man, and gives the opposition so much time that others have to step out to engage them and try and force them to make a desicion when they don't want too. The fans wanted Eddie gone - look how that's gone. The fans wanted Smith - look how that's gone. The only time England have looked like a rugby team this year is when Farrell was playing 10 and yet teh only thing you see on the boards and in the press is how much they hate Farrell and how overated he is and that he should be dropped. Utter madness Owen Farrell has lost exactly 0 games playing ten this year, and his club team is by a fucking mile the best team in the league, primarily because they have a winning mentality like their 10 and the best coach in teh league. Who you'll note never got a mention for the England job.

I like Benjamin Kayser's analysis of Fabien Galthie's reaction and especially his comment about Bernard Laporte who will come down as one of the biggest crooks in French rugby History. (not mentioning his vice president Serge Simon another scumbag). If I am not mistaken Fabien Galthie was the coach at Stade Français when Kayser was there earlier in his professional career. I am not buying Galthie's reaction either and that's what I fear. On one hand his group of players is exceptional, Galthie or no Galthie, they look self-driven the same way Stade Rochelais players are. BUT should things go wrong - injury to Dupont or what have you - will Galthie find the right words? Aldritt was saying this about ROG after La Rochelle's win in Dublin against Leinster: at half-time every player knew they had a job to do and they knew how to do it, there was no speech and most importantly no emotional speech, Hastoy talked the players through a few tactical adjustments and that was it, ROG said pretty much that they have a job to do, do it. Now, anyone who remembers Bernard Laporte as the French National coach (the most dreadful era of French rugby for me after PSA and Brunel considering Laporte had 8 years to do well in the World Cup and he did nothing on that particular front - tactically speaking it was a dreadful era), any French supporters will remember the disastrous effect Laporte had in the changing room reading the Guy Moquet letter (a young French resistant who wrote a letter to his mother if I recall before getting executed by the Nazis), after Laporte read that letter the players were so emotionally wrecked they could not play anymore. Some of them later reported that playing a game of rugby in the context of Guy Moquet's letter made absolutely no sense and all they wanted from that point onwards was to get home to their families. Players were crying. Laporte was an absolute idiot. He had no sense of proportion, no dignity, he was a negatively cunning character. Everyone remembers the 1/4 in Cardiff against the All Blacks, it was obvious there was zero gameplan and the players just took it by the scruff of the neck. The two games against Argentina were tactically dreadful and so was the semi against England. So to have Galthie praising Laporte the way he does is a little bit too much indeed because Laporte has ZERO contribution to the results other than getting the 2023 RWC home. Now from a coaching viewpoint Galthie and Laporte are worlds apart (one having played in Colomiers and the other in Beziers - the most boring one trick pony side in French rugby History), granted it is not so much Galthie but his former fly-half teammate at Colomiers Laurent Labit who is in charge of the tactical plans. Lose Labit and Galthie will be in trouble I think. I still believe the target was to beat Ireland at the 6N, Twickenham was not. And Galthie had specifically said after the Italy game that the preparation was made for Dublin. It was not obvious, that's what I fear with him. Somehow he does not seem to have ever been able to tell his players what they need or do not need to hear when things get tough...
@NeeksnFreaks
@NeeksnFreaks Год назад
England’s failings aren’t all that surprising, you have two fly halves playing outside centre and wing, a fullback with good stature for the position but lacks pace easily skinned on the outside by opposition in 1v1 situations, a number 8 who isn’t really up to international level and they’re also missing an out and out 12, all this talk of Manu doesn’t make sense he was never pushed as a 12 for England.

Another wonderful show without you know who😮 A very interesting discussion that threw up a few points that might benefit from further discussion- Without a dominant pack, NO flyhalf can be effective, especially Smith in my opinion. Attacking , free flowing rugby ( the sort touted by Ugo Monye et al ) might excite some, but isn’t necessarily the style that wins anything, see Harlequins trophy cabinet for evidence. Since when do you listen to fans or media? SB came into Leicester, made bold decisions, simplified the plans, clarified both the objectives & responsibilities. Lastly, Sweeney must go, I can’t believe he has met any of his objectives, has overseen the loss of 2 clubs, has personally destroyed the management team of the biggest club in the country, has blown millions doing this Discuss…

A player by the name of Joel kpoku needs to be brought back to England urgently. 6ft7 125kg skillful, powerful and mobile.

Haskell is the worst pundit on the channel but the reality is he helped create the show. So need to have some loyalty. But from an analyst perspective he adds very little.

An overall lack of athleticism and stamina across the park The players tend to have one or two key attributes they're really good at but then tend to be bang average elsewhere ATM Not a single England player at the moment gets into a world 23 let alone a world 15

I think it's a sad day where we're saying that the brilliance of the Premiership doesn't prepare England for their internationals. I'd stop watching rugby if the Prem got boring and was a drudge fest like some internationals can be. But then other international teams are playing with flare so I don't know if the argument holds.

It's pretty obvious when people keep calling for their favourite flavour of the month to be "given a shot" with England because of good form in the premiership and they prove to be very average at international.

What happened to England they got kicked off their own rugby stadium and now there’s not much the England supporters can say other than France played magnificent which is true and that must hurt 😂😂 England needs to turn table on Ireland 🇮🇪 and find the gold or their potatoes anything less the road to the World Cup and the tournament looks like a holiday in France 🎉🎉🎉 or sack the coach AGAIN 😮😮😮

why does everyone say they are shocked by english score ? less then a year ago they were whacked by a tier b french team with similar margin, penaud (2) and olivon scored then as well! france turned up with A team this time though! borthwick is to close to club level to be good yet! english rugby is not doin enough at 18+ level, junior and seniors playing in france now with less clubs they should have to spend some money!
