They really did that little girl dirty in this one. Beth Thomas was horrifically sexually abused by her biological father from birth. Her younger brother was kept strapped to a high chair 24/7. The authorities eventually uncovered the abuse and removed the children from the home. The immense trauma caused Beth to act out in extremely violent ways, especially at her brother because he reminded her of her past life. Through intense therapy and boundless love and empathy from her adoptive parents, Beth was able to overcome her horrific trauma and reconnect with her emotions and empathy. I’d highly highly HIGHLY recommend watching the doc “Child of Rage” about her, they literally documented the moment where Beth broke down crying and was able to reconnect with her emotions, and hugged her therapist, a big deal because she associated any physical touch with being abused in the worst ways. She’s since become a nurse and specializes in aiding abused children.

Well the one of Beth Thomas (the little girl in Child of Rage) actually has a happy ending. It was determined in therapy that her problems were the result of having exerpieneced horrific abuse. She's now a nurse who works with trauma survivors, and, as far as anyone knows, has never hurt anyone. So, unless new information about her comes out, it seems like she really did get the help she needed as a child before she was too far gone.

The little girl shouldn't have been on the list. Her father abused her and she began to act out because of the trauma. She was a victim of horrific SA, that started when she was a baby. I'm confused as to why they added her to the video and then left out important details as to why she did what she did. The interview is on RU-vid and it's heartbreaking...

Anyone that says they want the death penalty deserves solitary without parole.

I know several on here have mentioned to watch the documentary about Beth Thomas [the little girl]. She was severely abused before being removed and eventually adopted. It's amazing the transformation she made through therapy and her adoptive parents sticking by her side! She is living a successful adult life and I hate that she was included on this list!

I worked with 7th through 12th grade mentally and behaviorally disturbed children in DC, VA and MD for many years. I have stories that would bring you to tears. I will say that despite the trauma, anger, fear, and sickness they may go through; jail, trouble, whatever it may be - many of them turn out as successful and positive members of society. Some don't, but the majority overcome, and learn and grow into amazing adults. I'm rather proud of the work I did, and the example I was...shame politics made me leave the profession.

I grew up in California and at one time or another I lived in areas where serial killers were prowling (Zodiac, Ramirez, Hillside Stranglers, etc). It made me become very suspicious of people.

I have had two friends with schizophrenia. Both had bizarre hallucinations. One woman took to scaring the other tenants living in this large and old converted house by jumping out at them brandishing an axe. They were both very sick. This man is probably a schizophrenic. That poor woman, and the little one, so tragic.

Childhood trauma can have such devastating outcomes, but with the right therapies happening before certain ages you can have remarkable changes to the person. I wouldn't want her around my kids, but I've known far too many parents of children (mainly adopted) with extremely traumatic pasts and the ensuing behaviors to trust the recovery. With Schizophrenia, it's so so hard. We can't force people to be treated, and it can go sideways very very quickly. Also, they aren't all in institutions for those with mental disabilities. I've known criminals who are schizophrenic, and they were in general population of regular prisons.

They really did Beth dirty, she was treated so horrifically by the people who were supposed to protect her. The amount of therapy and hard work she has done is mind blowing. The thing is people can heal & change, but it has to be a deep dig out with people who care plus a good therapist. The fact that Beth was able to get the proper help at such a young age was a factor as well.

Haven't gotten past Eileen Warnos. If you haven't watched it yet, I'd highly recommend "Monster" featuring Charlese Theron as Warnos. When I saw the trailor for the film, I didn't recognize Theron. Her acting and makeup was that good. She earned an Oscar for her performance.

Richard Ramirez had the whole community terrified. So, when the news/newspaper had a definate description of him, they banded together and attacked him on the street, until police came. Look up the movie., Nightstalker.

All of these people are very scary individuals. Sad part is there are more serial killers out there.

My brother is actually a paranoid schizophrenic, and when they begin experiencing psychosis and hallucinations due to stopping their meds or the pills not helping anymore, its very easy to see that it's real in their eyes. When they look at you, they're not seeing you. Its like they're seeing straight through you. It's like a dead and blank look in their eyes, yet at the same time it looks like they're silently begging for help without words. Its heartbreaking to see someone you love that way. Especially because each time it continues to happen, it's less likely they'll ever come out of it. At this point, my brother is in semi-constant state of psychosis that no medicine can bring him out of and it's been like this for the last 5 years.

You need to watch the story about Paris. His mom still has a relationship with him. She also has another child and let's him interact with the child by letters and phone calls. But is scared for when he gets out and has a normal relationship with the child.

the problem with sending crazy people to mental institutions, is they can be medically treated, stabilized, make sense and then be discharged, go off meds, and hurt someone else. my sister stopped her meds every time she was discharged.

I immediately thought of Belle Gunness, a serial killer in the US who was active from 1884-1908, and Lucrezia Borgia, who may or may not have killed several people, depending on which historian you read. But yeah, Wuornos was just as scary as she looked.

The little girls story is actually pretty interesting. If you watch her whole interview, you'll see that she actually is pretty remorseful.

Watch the beth Thomas documentary. She had to learn right from wrong, empathy, love. She was rehabilitated and is a nurse today. With her background she would have to prove her rehab to get the board of nursing to grant her a registered nursing permission.

Eileen is perhaps the first serial killer in a "modern key", but in the past there have been female serial killers who have made many more victims, and some of them have never been caught even though their crimes were well known. Mary Belle, for example, had inherited from her second husband (whom she had killed on time), a farm, which was called "the farm of dead men" or something like that ...

Eileen Warnoos is *NOT* the first female serial killer. There are many more female serial killers throughout history. Many of them killed men but some killed children. I'm sure there were some who killed other women but I have yet to learn about them

Unfortunately a lot of mentally I’ll people don’t get the help they need. If insurance isn’t good or the hospital is full they will give the patient some meds and say the they are fine, when they are not.

I can't remember his name, but one serial killer, once convicted and sentenced to death asked for the death penalty ASAP. The state obliged him and granted his wish.

Wournos was NOT the first female serial killer in the USA. There were quite a few before her that are documented .

Shawcross was in prison for killing neighbor children! His family moved to Watertown, NY. That town has a very high crime rate. Why he was paroled from the child murders is just crazy. At least one of the women he killed was gutted how a hunter would do to a wild animal. You should see interviews with Dahmer's father. His dad talks in that quiet and creepy way, too.

Eileen Warnos wasn't the 1st female serial killer. It said that Serial killer Belle Gunness in Laporte indiana had murdered more than 40 people between 1884 and 1908, including her two daughters.

As others have said (and this does NOT excuse the behavior!), early trauma is absolutely devastating. We had family friends who adopted a 2 yr old....knew nothing of his past, etc...He was a very troubled child (I babysat him many times). They of course paid for therapy, etc. They ended up having to put him in a "facility" at age 9 because he was so uncontrollable and a danger to the entire family (they woke up multiple times to find him standing over various family members with a knife, for ONE example). They have been told, and it has proven to be true so far, that he will never function in society, and that was around 45 years ago. I can't remember if the diagnosis was psychopath or sociopath, but I also can't imagine, even in my worst nightmares, what he was put through those first 2 years of his life.

You should totally watch Child of Rage to get a better understanding of Beth Thomas. It’s actually a fascinating watch and shows how it’s possible to help kids that have undergone trauma, even when everyone says they’re a lost cause, and help them lead normal lives. If more kids with issues got the treatment Beth got, maybe we’d have less serial killers out there.

You know, I had this cool idea for a TV show, about a group of seven-year-old Japanese girls who dress up in really cute outfits (pink dresses, lace, ribbons, cat ears, ...), sneak out of their houses at night, and kill people. The main theme of the show would be that the parents keep *almost* finding out that they're sneaking out at night, but somehow they always manage to keep it secret.

If I am not mistaken the UK had a little girl that lured a boy into a secluded area and tortured and killed him. I think they were both preteens, but it is certainly a sad affair when people kill just for the sake of killing.

My friend from high school became a scout sniper. Top of his class. He killed 26 people. Now he has a comfortable life with wife and young kids and doesn’t have to pay for murdering people. Wartime or not. Military or not. You still killed people and I have no respect for that. If his family was murdered he would get the murdered put away. Murder is murder. That’s that.

I wanted to set the record straight about the death penalty out here in the States. I couldn't find the original video, but this was along the same vein. The narrator on that video claimed that there had only been 2 executions since the late 1960s. That bothered me even though I knew many are commuted. I looked it up. Since a 1976 case, Gregg vs. Georgia, there have been over 8,700 defendants who were given the death penalty. Of those, over 1,500 have, indeed, beeb executed. So, there have been A LOT more than 2 executions. I have no idea where they came up with that.

You say you believe in rehabilitation. But then you don't believe that a grown woman, who had homicidal tendencies when she was a young child, can be cured of such feelings, even though she's committed no offenses since that young age. If that's the case, then how could you possibly believe in the rehabilitation of a criminal, that is already an adult when they commit their crime, and therefore have much less time to rehabilitate? If a person can't change, in your mind, between early childhood, and adulthood, especially with years of therapy, then there is no such thing as rehabilitation.

I agree with you, Kabir, in that I would never feel 100% safe around anyone with a murderous past no matter how much rehabilitation they supposed received. What scares me the most is the fact that there are way more people out there right now and they may never be caught.

I dont feel like Beth deserves to be on this list. In this one case they caught this and actually managed to give her empathy after years of constant work. That documentary was powerful. She was absolutely broken and those people worked so hard for her.

Wow. Hometown killer Arthur Shawcross made the list. I remember hearing the name but sounds like he was locked up before my time so I never knew anything about him. It must have been on the news when he got out the first time. Although I likely wouldn't have paid attention to the news at that time I must have heard about it in the background. That little girl is unbelievable. I can't believe someone that young would feel compelled to hurt people.

I personally do buy that wuiornos aileen was the first cuss of her circumstances and most females are more emotionally intelligent than the average men ! And also aileen 7 killing spree isn’t as bad as seeing that the men have killed more however it’s still bad ofc.

Kabir, You asked if that guy was just "putting it on" too get different prison/treatment... It really doesn't matter. Legal punishments like prison exist to punish people who fail to live up moral laws that we as a society all agree to live under. When it comes to people who commit such heinous crimes, it's best to think of them like a rabid dog. It no longer matters if they can be rehabilitated or other nonsense. They went a bridge too far and can never be trusted again and also a correct punishment is required whether they are "sick/insane" or not. They are just evil, and like a rabid dog, needs to be put down for justice sake and for the sake of society.

Childhood schizophrenia.

I'm just now seeing this video, I don't know how I missed it. The first female serial killer was Lavinia Fisher. She was born in the late 1700's ( I think is what it said, it could've been she began killing then), but rather she died or was executed in February of 1820. I kinda have a weird fascination with true crime and if you've seen my other comments on some of your videos, I also like weather and of course the police videos, since my son is a cop.

The young girl highlighted in this video has a much deeper story that this clip conveniently overlooked. She and her brother were severely abused and neglected. Her “parents” whom she was trying to kill were actually their adoptive parents. Her biological father had done unspeakable things to that little girl, and the psychopathy that resulted was her young brain’s way of shielding her from the atrocities done to her. She is not a monster - she’s a victim. Thankfully, she was given the opportunity to have effective therapy to help her work through the effects of her childhood trauma. With time and maturity, it IS possible that she can exist in the world today as a fully functional adult. Not everyone with mental illness is beyond help. I have Borderline Personality Disorder, and I definitely was a monster (nothing illegal, but I have done some extreme things I’m not proud of). I’ve had many years of very intense therapy, and I use the skills I learned in therapy on the daily. Those skills help me operate in the world and manage my very extreme emotions in more effective and “normal” ways. Most people who meet me these days say that they would never guess that I live with mental illness, because I seem so self aware and well adjusted. It has taken me a LOT of work and dedication, and I’m proud of my achievement. Please don’t add to the stigma against the mentally ill by suggesting that they can never be rehabilitated or trusted. That is insensitive and hurtful. While some cannot be helped for a variety of reasons, many can be helped.

The last one, Jeffrey Dahmer killed black men. One escaped and practically had to beg some cops to go to Dahmer's apartment. Dahmer died in prison when he was beat to death by another prisoner. You would think he'd have protection in prison because that would be expected, but oh well. Generally speaking, it seems women kill for revenge, men kill for fun. It's a wonder that little girl didn't have split personalities. If you haven't seen the movie Sybil, I highly recommend it. I love psychological movies and that's one of the best and it's true. I was friends with a woman who had split personalities and the stories she told me make you wonder how anyone survives such abuse.

I actually think Dahmer was a bit different, I think he genuinely was aware of how horrific he was, and genuinely did not want to be(at least part of him did). He was a monster but seemed quite willing to try and understand it. He was messed up beyond measure, but I saw a program on his early life and I have to say, you could have see the development coming with only a little interaction on the parents part, which they did not give him. I do think Dahmer was like 2 people in one body, 1 of those people was a monster for sure. Dahmer started keeping dead animal parts in his teens, and at that point started to develop sexual tendencies in relations to dead animals (IKR wtf???) I cant help but feel if this was unearthed at the time he may have been able to have been saved, at least certainly steered away from killing etc. I am not trying to say he was a victim or not responsible he was responsible, but I always thought Dahmer came across a bit different to most serial killers in interviews, just felt less like he was playing games. Dahmers thing was about rejection and abandonment. He would kill his victims so they could not leave him. I think its pretty clear what was originally deficient in his life and later warped into the most hideous of traits. I cant but wonder had that been Identified pre puberty/teen years, the whole scenario(S) would not have happened. I think there were clear markers that were missed with Dahmer. Also he once almost got arrested when one of his victims escaped and found a local Cop, Dahmer caught up to them and convinced the Cop it was a gay lovers tiff and the Cop bought the story, the guy that initially ran, was killed later that night, this was about half way through his body count.

I've never heard that the young girl that was trying to kill her brother and mother. I see some people here in comments as I told some of the backstory to that. But you mentioned imagine coming across that lady as an adult. It is the problem a lot of these people and I have had terrible childhoods and done terrible things have been deemed okay for society you never know which one is where. I also think you are asked the black lady out who killed the man in the wheelchair, it looks like she knew have some connection
