I don't know of a single Aussie who feels 'trapped' or 'isolated' and I have seen many other Aussies make this same comment on other reactions to this video. So his claim of many, he must have pulled out from under his hat. If anyone does feel trapped they are probably immigrants who left family behind. As for the distance between cities, most people fly. It's not that expensive nor does it take that long. I talk to people on Discord from Europe and the US, its not that hard. Internet does suck, that one is true. It's due to how big we are with low population. He is not taking the mick, there was an emu war, you might want to make a reaction video about it. The US has so many more vehicle fatalities than here, so he has no leg to stand on. They have 12.9 deaths per 100,000 people were as we have 4.5 deaths per 100,000 people. I don't know if we have more accidents per person, or we enjoy uploading more dash cam videos (I think its the second we love dash cam video channels) but we certainly have far less fatalities. So no, he doesn't know what he's talking about. Also if you have never seen an Aussie dash came video collection highly recommend reacting to some. For an American to claim Australia is expensive, he is looking at things very shallowly. He is forgetting his high price health care, the 20% tip he leaves, that many Americans don't get sick leave without pay or maternity leave. Most things are comparable. I've seen an American do a grocery hall comparison and often we are talking a few cents more or sometimes less. For sure alcohol and cigarettes are way more expensive due to the tax slapped on them, but they cause health issues and the money for our health care has to come from somewhere. Sydney is very expensive, but honestly again I would say comparable to New York, it may even be cheaper. Places close early because we believe in leisure time. Work life balance. Expecting everything to be open all the time is kind of entitled. To be open at 3am means someone is out working at 3am instead of sleeping. Thursdays is late night shopping. I think Thursday was picked due to many people getting paid on Thursdays.

Actually, I disagree. I hate the distance and after 21 hour flight with 5 hour stopover to Italy that I endured, I won't be travelling again for years. It was a horrible experience, just to get there. Not worth the stress or the expense! Australia is home but there are times I wish I was born in Europe, so I could be closer to the world! And then sometimes I'm glad I'm not closer to the world. I can't win!!

I just wish that the people who make these videos would stop putting out this click bait. So full of inaccuracies, and over exaggerated. I don’t know any Australians who feel isolated…we just love to travel. We love coming home as well. The distances are the norm for us, we don’t know any different! Maybe you guys who react, should read the comments before spreading this garbage. Lots of us Aussie give honest comments to them.

We feel isolated and alone 😂 we suffer from mental illness without the ability to get soon medical support 😂 it’s expensive but “they have good quality of life” 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ we have the worst drivers 😂 REALLY?? With a written test, learners permit that requires 100hrs of logged driving, a driving test and a two step red and green provisional license???? Yes, we take the mick and post dash cam drivers for a laugh! It’s bloody funny. So many inaccuracies it’s embarrassing.

We’re not affordable, we export minerals. It's called "Dutch Disease" or "the Resources Curse". (You can look it up in Wikipedia.) No, it was not a good accent, and the video in general shows no signs that the narrator or the writer has any direct experience of Australia, nor that they have done their research with any care. The geographical feature formerly known as "Ayers Rock" is called "Uluru" nowadays. Date error: Britain claimed the eastern two-thirds of Australia in 1770, not 1788. 1788 is when the First Fleet arrived. Depends how you define poverty. We have almost no starving-to-death poor-country-type poverty, but some rich-country-type poverty (miserable but not usually life-threatening). We mostly don't live in the places with the extreme heat, but in places with more moderate, or even cool, climates. Where I live the temperature has only gone above 43 once ever, and usually goes over 40 on only a handful of days each year. Airconditioning is fairly common, especially in the north, but I didn't bother getting it until four years ago. You acclimatise, mostly. The thing about Aussies feeling "trapped, lonely, and isolated", pining for the short travel-distances of Europe is almost complete bullshit. I suppose there are some, but nobody I've known has ever mentioned it to me in over fifty years. There are about 27 million of us - we're hardly on a desert island like Robinson Crusoe. As for there being only five metro areas over 1 million population: you only need to live in one, which 75% of Australians do. The "everything" that is trying to kill you is mostly horses and cattle - which are no more dangerous nor unavoidable here than in any other country (hint: don't run into them on your motorbike). Even so, animals in Australia all put together turn out to be less than one-third as deadly as the police in the USA. The Australian bush absolutely *is* a place that you can spontaneously go for a walk or hike any time without being super careful of your surroundings. The only real danger is getting lost, which is far more often deadly that snakes and spiders. Look up the "Great Emu War" on Wikipedia. The Australian Army "lost" in the sense of suffering zero casualties out of four men deployed, but running out of ammunition and getting their program cancelled without exterminating the emus. As Pyrrhus said "Another such 'victory'…." As for bad drivers, the road fatality rate in Australia is less that 40% of that in the USA, despite the fact that Aussies drive longer distances. I guess that Aussies just like uploading dashcam video. I notice that the original video doesn't include a comparison to any other country when discussing the mental health issues in Australia. For instance, I'm pretty sure that psychological treatment is more expensive in the USA.

Australia is huge with many climate areas. Equatorial, Tropical, Sub-tropical, Desert, Grassland and Temperate. As a general rule of thumb the closer you get to Antarctica the colder its going to be. Melbourne is further South so it's often cooler than Sydney, but its weather is also influenced by the desert. So it gets hot desert winds and cold Antarctic winds. Melbourne is jokingly referred to as having 4 seasons in one day because that is how changeable it can be.

Also, our internet is nowhere near as bad as you make out. Besides it’s not that important anyway. We have many other interesting places and icons of world heritage class. We also don’t need to sell our homes if we are forced to spend an extended time in hospital.

As to being isolated and suffering I don't think so. I live in Perth and at times I feel over crowded. It's the sun burnt country for me. It's the sense of real jaw dropping isolation that captures you. The sense of freedom for some can be overwhelming but it's also the key that helps you understand yourself. There are no distractions. You will learn to feel safe again free again, truly free. For most the landscape captures them, some say it touches their very soul. That says a lot about a pile of deep red dirt and all that dwells within her. Take a look at One Pack Wonderers, a very interesting journey of discovery for two charming young Americans who in the end had a little trouble letting go, a beautiful story.

"Why can't we do what Europe does and just install more 5G thingies"? For the most part, all regional infrastructure development in Australia has the same problem...... there's an enormous landmass to cover, whether it's internet/communications, roads, rail, transport, public services ect and only a very small population to fund it and maintain it. Our second smallest state, Victoria, is about the same size as the whole of the UK but has a population almost exactly 10 times smaller (6.7 million).

About 20 or so years ago, they did try 24hr shopping in Sydney (maybe elsewhere too), with some supermarkets and stores like K-Mart staying open. It didn't last too long, as not that many people wanted to shop after midnight. You can generally do supermarket shopping in Sydney until 9 or 10 PM. And some supermarkets are open at 7AM. And the majority of restaurants will be open until fairly late, because that is when they do a lot of their business. Yes, internet could be better. There was a plan put into operation to have homes connected via fibre optic cable (the National Broadband Network), but with a change of Federal Government, this was reduced to a Fibre to the Node scheme, with the Internet entering homes via old copper telephone lines. This was done because the new government told us it was too expensive, and because "nobody needs fast Internet, you just want to download pirated games and videos faster" (yeah, that was being spouted on a lot of right wing media at the time). We do have 5G, but that wasn't a thing when all this was going down.

The climate varies, especially in winter months (though, this year is mild). Tip: think of the UK on a larger scale. The top of Scotland will be much cooler than Southampton (my team). In winter Hobart may be 6C yet Darwin 28C. In summer, when cyclones are in northern Aust, it pushes the heat south from central Aust. Melbourne's high was "Black Saturday" 47.5C. January is the worst where sometimes we get 7day streaches of 40+C. There is poverty in Australia. If you are on an Old Age Pension, Disability Pension, or unemployed on Jobseeker, and renting, in a major city you'll spend all your benifts on rent and food. You can migrate to Australia over 45, but must have family already here, and numbers are capped. There's Thursday night shopping where many stores open until 9pm. Otherwise, you may need to take 1-2hrs off work.

It's not that the drivers are worse here...as it's more the fact that we own a lot of dashcams and post a lot compared to other countries. Maybe it's because cars are more expensive here and people think they need a camera to capture who damages their car so they can claim reparations.

This guy is slightly annoying. Most Australians don't feel isolated and many don't have any desire to travel to other countries. Mental health issues aren't just because people don't open up there are many reasons that people of all countries have a mental illness. The list is long as to causes. Most Aussies don't want therapy, we don't like to whinge (like the poms 😅) and the older generations were taught not to feel sorry for yourself and not to have a victim mentality. So seeing a therapist can actually make them feel worse. Therapy seems to be more common in the US, but for those that do suffer from a serious mental illness I'll admit the system isn't great. As for air conditioning, yes you will find it in many houses but most people only use it in extreme heat. Can't beat fresh air mate!!!! I've just got air con and that's only because I got a puppy and can't leave him locked in a hot house 😉 😅 Mine rarely gets used. Lived without it most of my life and I'd prefer not to have it. ☮️💞😊🇦🇺

A lot of what he said would make damned good fertiliser for the garden. I am seventy years old. At the end of my street there is a 182 hectare nature reserve. There are probably snakes there although I haven't seen one in over fifty years. If you don't corner them they will get out of your way. As for spiders, I can't remember the last time I saw one and I don't run around with a can of insecticide. I have air conditioning but I don't use it. I have ceiling fans which I use on really hot days. Ayers Rock reverted to the name given it by the original residents. It is now Uluru. My maternal grandfather was the most recent immigrant from the UK in my family. He had a darned sight better life style here than his siblings in the UK. Nearly a year ago my nephew celebrated his fortieth birthday in Melbourne. My brother and I flew from Newcastle to Melbourne in the morning, joined in the celebration and flew back in the evening. Australia is great but don't tell people from the US. They might turn our paradise into a clone of their mess.

They are either English, Scottish, Greek, Italian, Chinese, Indians, etc. They never mention that they are Human Beings and all they do is fight each other. It's a Northern Hemispherean illness. Maybe the Earth spins faster in the Northern Hemisphere, and it scrambles their thinking. As far as I'm concerned, the Northern Hemisphereans are going to obliterate themselves, at which point, all the Human Beings from Australia, will migrate back to their Motherlands, and repopulate them with Human Being values. While we Aussies are drinking our cold Coopers, having a snag on the Barbie, and enjoying the company of our Human Being Sheilas, we'll watch you from afar, destroy each other ... over borders ... over culture ... over governance ... over materials ... over silly name calling ... over stupid skin colour ... over private, personal sexual activities ... over possessions ... To come for a holiday here you need to plan sensibly, because of the distance to get here you'll lose 2 whole days just travelling between your country and ours and back again. The quickest and easiest way is to fly to each city, but there are a lot of places that you'd miss out on if you did that. Distance in AUstralia isn't much of a problem for us, we're used to it. I live in Adelaide (SA) to drive to Melbourne is an 8 hour drive, but there are a lot of places along the way that are worthwhile seeing, the state of Victoria is beautiful.

Australians are early adopters of all things tech. We have a lot of dash cams and internet savvy people. We may upload a lot of dash cam crash footage, but we have some of the most actively policed road rules in the world, and have had one of the lowest road death tolls since the 1980s. If you visit, the speed limit is the speed limit (speeders will get fines in the mail with evidence), the alcohol limit is 0.05 and there are random breathalyser checkpoints set up on roads. Don’t think of driving without everyone in the car buckled up, and while too many people are texting while driving, police are making efforts to catch those drivers too with police on bikes checking drivers on the road.

You get used to the heat Northern Australia is worst and I wouldn’t go to the tropical north in the peak of summer - but in most temperate zone coastal places it gets up to 40 degrees plus rarely, a few days in the year generally the end of January and early February. a lot of houses and most businesses have air conditioning, this is recent, air conditioning in houses was unheard of when I was growing up. My high school in western Sydney had to close down one day when the temperature reached more than 40 C - there was no air conditioning then, and half the classrooms faced west. There definitely is poverty in Australia, anyone who has been unemployed long term is likely to be living very precariously. Working people are doing it tough in the current post-covid era’s cost of living increases. Wages are generally good - the minimum wage is now over $23 per hour and most people earn well above that depending on occupation and skill level.

The rock is more huge than it looks, and so beautiful in different lights. It was called Ayers Rock after a white guy, that offended the real aussies, so they told us it is Uluru, and always has been. We had to adjust, it is also sacred to them, so climbing it, which gives people health problems with it's sheer size and the heat, is not reccomended. There are helicopters out there for tourists to get a look at the area, it is very unusual all over. A lot of the outback cattle stations are so huge they muster their stock by small plane. No the outback is not unpopulated, just sparsley. A lot of original inhabitants still live out there on their traditional lands, some mining companies were okayed by people in big cities making such assumptions. Destroying local waterholes and underground water tables did not go down well. 7+year droughts, flooding wet-seasons, massive bush-fires. All take some managing. The people from there taught us how, to stop tea-tree, eucalyptus gums etc from taking over the land. All are very highly flammable oils, koalas get killed in their trees during fires, because the leaves they eat are eucalyptus oil producers. Keeping leaf trash under control helps, so in cold seasons, controlled burns, stop bush-fires in hotter months being quite so devastating. Some native tree seeds need fire to open them, so there are benefits from everything that happens. We have some bad drivers, not so many, that is very exaggerated. Do you regularly drive for hours to go somewhere, we can and often do. Tik-toks and camera bits are aired because they are unusual, not common. There are a lot better places to live than Sydney and Melbourne, if you want affordability. They have higher wages, because the cost of living there is exy. I live in Qld, way up north on the great dividing range and it's 20°C just now. Sometowns and cities do not need aircon all the time, we don't even have one. Heaters are more necessary in melbourne, though split systems that do both, are popular. You have ski-resorts around Sydney and Melbourne. In places like Perth, and around there, and Adelaide, and as far north as Toowoomba in Qld you can get snow. He's talking out of a hole in his head... do you guys have an RuOK day, we do, with more people being aware of mental issues, things have changed a lot.

I'm an Australian who hides and hibernates in the summer. 40 degree odd temperatures, Ugh . I live in a hot country and I love Autumn and Winter, because they are cooler! I'd love to enjoy a few of those cold English days in summer. Really, I would! Make sure you have sunscreen at a good large +SPF if you're in Australia in Summer!! Don't you see the tennis players suffering on Centre court at the Australian Open, the sun that's why!! And no you don't acclimatize, ac's, fans etc are highly used in Summer, your utility bills in Summer go up!! Why do Aussie beaches become camp grounds in Summer because everyone wants the water, swimming pools are the norm for most house owners, too. We always have had a swimming pool in our yards. If there's not a flood, there are fires depending on the season. Where I grew up it often gets over 40 degrees in summer, 45 degrees isn't unusual, and we generally stay in doors with the air conditioning on all day.

In Sydney and the outer suburbs, late night shopping occurs every Thursday, where most stores will stay open to around 9pm. This American is definitely exaggerating. Internet. Hmm, I think it depends where you are. In the cities generally our internet is good, we have broadband access, I think overall it's as accessible as anywhere else. We skype and zoom, we use internet for pay tv etc, this all seems to work okay. In some rural areas I think it depends on other factors and zones. I don't truly understand the infrastructure but you can get poor connections in some centers. But internet providers are trying to improve things all the time, so I'd take this persons view with a 'grain of salt'. Most larger communities have longer hour shopping times, but there are few 24/7 openings. Our supermarkets can be open until 11pm or midnight. Generally late night shopping is until 9-10pm a couple of days a week. For instance, where I live, local food take aways: Dominos Pizza open until 11pm M-Sunday, 7/11 is open 24hrs but the staff usually lock the door around 2am when no-one is around. Understandable. My Woolworths is open until 11pm nightly. Most restaurants are open until late-11-midnight. I live in a suburb of Melbourne, whereas, where my mum lives everything is closed by 6pm. She lives in a rural town with less than 9000 citizens. Saturday and Sunday they are shut up by midday, so you need to shop before lunch time in her town. So opening/closing hours depends on where you live.

In Melbourne summer 40C (104F) isn't that bad because the humidity is low. And it cools down at night. 90F in Chicago feels far hotter because of the high humidity. I use A/C very rarely. This year was the first day in 3 years that it reached 40 for 1 day. Winter isn't bad either - jeans, and warm jacket. I have 5G internet 128Mbps download, unlimited, including the EPL. $75 (38 gbp a month). Houses are about the same price as the expensive UK and US cities. If you live in an outer suburb they are cheaper. Perth in Western Aus has the densest population of UK citizens outside the UK. Some suburbs are nearly 40% UK. Melbourne is past its peak as a great place to live. Once you could drive anywhere without a traffic jam. Not any more. Crime is on the rise. Although average salaries seem good, living on unemployment benefits isn't something you would want to do especially if single. I have had 2 cars parked in the street written off by immigrant drivers crashing into them.

No.1 every country has some very uncomfortable weather and also weather related disasters, e.g USA and UK have snow storms and flooding, USA has hurricanes ( as does AUS). As for the distance and isolation I have not met an AUSSIE who has a problem with that, also most travel between major cities is by plane and not that expensive. Internet is expensive but you need to remember the vast difference in population between us and both the UK and the USA so the expenditure is shared by far less people and they are starting to add more towers. This one really ticks me off, EVERYTHING DOES NOT WANT TO KILL YOU. If you are stupid and don't follow sensible protocols then yes you can be in danger, like the tourists who ignored the warning of crocodile infested waterways. Like in most countries again there are dangerous animals but they would rather get out of your way. If they attack then you must have provoked them. I have been living here for decades and have seen maybe 4 brown snakes who went away to hide when they saw me. Aussies are bad drivers!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is expensive especially if you keep comparing different currencies, most people live in the suburbs.

I think most of these are either outdated, subjective or simply untrue. Australia has 4 seasons and currently we are in the middle of winter. There are some areas with snow. The average temperature in Sydney is only 28 degrees in summer. It’s rare to have above 40 degrees. The internet speed is largely improved with unlimited data and cheaper price plan despite the long distance undersea cable from practically anywhere else. No wild animals near where people live, unless you go to outback areas. The drivers are not terrible, that’s nonsense. As for expensive, yes, but the wage is also high.

The cost of living is quite high here, so is rent, cars, houses, petrol, alcohol, just about everything is more expensive than the rest of the world. It has to be…in order to have some of the highest incomes in the world, free health care, other free social services and industrial relations benefits…you have to get the money to pay for it all somewhere. So it has to come from increased taxes, and increased costs for goods and services. Saying something’s free is completely false…we just pay for it in other ways. I rarely go to the doctor, in fact sometimes it can be years between visits and checkups. I’m actually very health and have zero health problems…but I still pay about $3,000 per year for the Medicare levy to cover all the free health care I don’t use. (The Medicare levy is NOT private health insurance) Years ago I needed ankle repair surgery, in and out the same day, the free health care was great but I had to wait six months because of the backlog of people waiting for their own surgeries. The waiting lists in some states can be several years. As a healthy tax payer, I’m paying for other people’s ‘free’ health care. So while we have some excellent things in OZ, and a great lifestyle, I love my country, it’s not perfect by any stretch and we’ve made some stupid decisions that we’re now literally paying for. We used to manufacture motor vehicles here too, but now they’ve all closed down and moved to other nations because our industrial relations laws demanded such big wages, benefits, bonuses and shorter working hours, that it made manufacturing too expensive. So loads of people lost their jobs when the motor vehicle factories shut down. Still, you should come to Oz for a holiday, but make sure Queensland is part of your travels as it’s about the best place in the country, and having visited and spent time in almost all states and territories, I speak with some experience. Considering how beautiful all our states are, that’s really saying something.

At the moment inflation has gone a little bit insane, and so the interest rates are hell, but normally everything’s pretty affordable, as long as you aren’t in the middle of the city. I do not feel isolated. Also, as much as some of the people on the roads may be shit drivers, vehicle fatalities are really low compared to America. The reason our fatality rate is low, is because there has been a massive crack-down on drunk drivers. If the dude in the video is getting his information from dashcam vids, i get that, but he didn’t do much research. Also the reason other things are more expensive is because we pay our workers living wage, and they don’t have to live on tips. You don’t have to tip either. The minimum wage has been raised recently. There is a really smart strategy the government has done for managing minimum wage- the older you are, the higher the minimum wage. Also, my perspective might be off, but the internet isn’t shit either. It’s spotty further out, sure, but that’s because its nearly impossible to get coverage everywhere. Also, not everything will kill you. Don’t be a dumbass and you’re fine. Do your research. The dude in the video was really dumb because yes, i know exactly how to not die when i go walking. do your research if you need to, but it comes up to: don’t be an idiot and be observant. Also, we close early because we have a reasonable life/work balance.

The driving was over exaggerated, and what bad driving there is is certainly not due to bad instructors or a poor licensing requirements. A lot of what appears to be bad driving incidents are caused by the horrific state of our roads and the amount of overcrowding on city roads that drive drivers to point of exasperation. I have driven quite a bit in London and even there was no where near as bad as the traffic I experienced in Sydney where for me to drive from home to work (7kms) took 50 minutes (and yes that's 7kms NOT 70kms).
