That date is only used from attested written sources such as stone inscriptions from oc eo and neighboring champa and also from chinese diplomats. Indianization most certainly began much earlier than that. Khmer script didn't appear until 611 ad, but scholars conclude it developed earlier than the attested date by studying the language itself.

Funan is a made up term to describe the many tribes and peoplea living there as a multi-ethnid society that even has austronesian peoples. There is also no evidence that funan speak khmer and there is no khmer script in funan. No one really knows their true identity and it is still in debate by many scholars.

During King Suryavarman I in the 11th century he invaded Pegu and the Burmese sent 3 generals and his troops to battle the Khmers. The result was a status quo because they both were powerful that time.
The Khmer empire during the 11th century under emperor Suryavarman I attacked Pegu the Mon capital but fhe Burmese helped the Mon to defend against the Khmer troops. Later during Emperor Jayavarman the 7th in the 13th century Pegu Kingdom became part of the Khmer empire.

Funan was a united kingdom from different tribes alongside the coastline of mainland southeast asia. The majority population of Funan possibly were from two groups of people they were Austronesian people and Austroasiatic people. Because today modern Cambodian who live the southern Cambodia where the Funan located shared very similar to Austronesian people DNA. Those might been the people of Champa.

Javanese people are open-minded and can distunguish betweens folklore & history based on validity level of sources. They can be tracked based on Script or Aksara. If you are cham, your language is blended in Aceh language of Sumatra. You can track your language there. For cham & khmer, your kingdoms had relationship with Javanese Kingdom in the past. There are transcriptions mentioned Javanese Kingdom in your land. Even, our Aksara is based on Phallian Aksara.

It seems that much of the land of the Khmer Empire is now part of Thailand. Does anyone else think that Thailand should be considered a descendant of the Khmer Empire, rather than Cambodia? Does anyone share this view? I don’t mean to offend anyone; I just want to start a constructive conversation.
From what I see, Most of Khmer empire fall into Thai’s and Lao’s. Viet people save millions of Cambodian from Khmer Rouge. Why should we hate each other? If we become friends, we can grow stronger together.
Dude, my father served his duty in Cambodia back then, and we never use the term “save” to talk about it. It should be “help” or “support”. Many Vietnamese people are being arrogant and superior toward Khmer people. We should be friendlier.

My grandfather are the teacher of Hunsen and Cambodians who run away from Polpot, Many of them, who become Cambodian leader comes back to my grandfather to say thank you for saving their country, many times. That time they have been try to reach many other way to save their country: Thai, chinese, Singapore, American, Cambodian royal, but no one respones. Viet did. That why many one of them consider us as saving rather than helping. In the end, if we just want to help, we can just withdraw simply when we defeat Polpot. However, once we know that Cambodian are destroyed heavily, they don’t have doctor, they don’t have food to survive. We report evething to the UN, but the UN and Chinese and Thai, and US and Singapore pretent like Polpot are angel. They protect the army of Polpot, they supply polpot, they train polpot army. The Cambodian student of my grandfather tell me, that time, Vietnamese did have many many oppotunities of withdawing from cambodia and allowing Polpot to take over Cambodia anytime in 10 year long, while 2 million Cambodian were dead but the survivor did not have the strength left to burry them, while Polpot have take away gold, money, burn food and left them with hungers before Viet comes, while Viet were boycot by many countries in the world if we stay. But what are our choice? We stay 10 years, we fight for Cambodian until the UN recognize the crime of Polpot (who is protected by chinese, thailand and financial support by Singapore and US) and promise to protect Cambodian in our place, not enough, we train and supply weapon for the Cambodian army of Hunsen to protect themselves. You must understand that if we do not stay, that would be much much easier for Viet and terrible for innocent people in Cambodian. That is why many cambodian use the word saving rather than helping, since we do much more than just helping. But you could not imgane what would happend to Cambodian innocent after Viet do not thing, leave and allow Polpot simply comes back.

I think the Vietnamese invasion extended beyond the year 1989. And if you want to include indirect forms, it could be argued that Vietnamization has probably continued up until the present time.

I think the fall of Khmer Empire was the fault of the Cambodians themselves. They had more land, but fewer people. And then, they lavishly wasted money building temples rather than ever looking at improving infrastructures. This led to their demise and ultimately Cambodia's tragedy. If anyone blaming me that I read Thai or Vietnamese propaganda, then please, I'm from Poland - but I know Khmer Empire is always a joke.
