She seems like a good girl and the song isn't bad and it's catchy but the amount of potential Poland had for Jann's operatic masterpiece would have almost guaranteed a top 10 result. Really the broadcaster is responsible here. They're digging themselves further and further into holes. I think the EBU might get involved you know but really this song isn't the worst one for me funnily enough.

When I watched the official music video, I though "artificial voice, but kinda summer vibes, cool girl". When I watched the 3-4 performances of her live in TVP I though "is she a real singer or an influencer trying to sneak in ESC?". And now, after the final, I really hate her 😂 some people say "it's a jury issue", but she has big connections with polish tv, she's directly involved in what happened. Our spanish singer, and one of the best voices in 2023 is called Blanca, too. Weird clash here.
I think you might be giving her too much credit thinking she could fix a vocal that bad before Eurovision. And let's be real, the song isn't anything spectacular that could elevate massively if they did get someone good to sing over her. Brooke did this concept far better last year and couldn't go through, I don't see Blanka in the final. Belgium's odds are slowly climbing though. Gustaph can sing and a but of staging and/or song revamp would do a lot for "Because of You".
I agree but this second semi is really turning out to be below average weak imo. We’re gonna lose some strong stuff from 1st semi and some weak stuff will sneak through the 2nd
@@ESCTom True, but that was kinda the point I was making about Belgium. When the song was picked, people were pretty down on it as a weak entry. But it's looking more and more like it could sneak through despite being in the first half. And we haven't heard Albania's revamp yet, and that's another song that people have been really down on that could end up coming out ahead. Greece and Cyprus usually send good entries and are probably safe unless we get another shock in the live department or one gets a really bad draw. Australia's safe (and might close the semi based on what we know so far). Slovenia probably will be too. I'm thinking Poland and San Marino are pretty DOA even with being drawn in the second half. The only acts you can put them next to where they don't look bad by comparison are each other. Iceland isn't looking great and might draw the death slot. Then there will be 2 more nonqualifiers (most likely from the first half). That's how I'm thinking it will probably go, at least.
I voted for Poland last year, I Loved the song and the vocals. I thought they gave so much quality to the contest. Honestly, how can you come out with this after Ochman? It seems flat like a flat tyre.
You said exactly the word i would to describe it. It really right now sounds like a karaoke. It just does. For me I didn’t not like the song itself. The studio version i actually kind of liked because of it kind of is like a summer vibe song. But it really isn’t a very good idea to send a karaokesound song to Eurovision. But if she can fix the vocals then she could quilify.
I’m not saying this to be mean to the artist, but I’m kind of annoyed that this is in the second semifinal while some really great acts like Latvia are at risk of NQ.

The singer Blanca won the totally legitimate and not at all staged Polish national final and will be representing the Polish jury at the 67th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with her song ‘Solo’ 🥳

I think she will be able to improve for the contest in May, there is even supposed to be a dance break for the Eurovision version. So I guess we will wait and see
No dance break will help her if she doesn't learn to sing. In an interview, she said that singing and dancing at the same time was difficult for her. But the problem is that from the first second she goes wrong with the sound before she starts to move. Already at this "baby" everyone winces and then it's only worse.
Here I was rooting for Poland because River was one of my favorites last year! 🤡 Also, I have a question (ESC newbie here), how much power does the artist have when it comes to the staging in Eurovision? Say, if TVP had let Jann win, would they have a lot of control over what the staging would look like in the end?
it totally depends on the artist and the broadcaster and also the power dynamic between them. some delegations would be more open minded and others more strict, but with every delegation, the bigger the name you are, the more likely you are to get your way
More from the broadcaster in Poland. Since it's more political than national television, they HAVE TO have control. They already screwed up Ochman's performance with those dementors, who are dancers of one of this year's juries and a well-paid "refugee" from another opposing TV. This is so corrupt and arranged, it hurts. And apparently we live in a democratic country. TVP arranges contracts with the artist, so it is possible that we will never find out the truth, because they have to speak only in superlatives about TV.

Pretty much everything has been said so I won't add too much more...it just boggles my mind. Jann is a trained counter tenor. So whatever his vocal issues were sunday, that can be fixed..he maybe had an off day or he was nervous or something. Seemed more of a breath control issue because he can definately sing he showed that towards the end. There is nothing to fix here with Blanka...she can't really sing. Maybe she can get some lessons...but it is just beyond me the jury picked this over a counter friggin' tenor! I'm sure she is nice I don't want to dig into her and I don't begrude anybody a place on the Eurovision stage but this is my biggest dissapointment of this season...unless Loreen doesn't win Mello than Poland is my 2nd biggest dissapointment. Or maybe not because Mello won't be rigged. So scratch that. This is def my biggest disappointment. Silver lining...at least it's not the booty song.... :-)
lol well the booty song was almost more entertaining than this performance 😂 yea exactly, any vocal issues could have been worked on. i get the impression Jann is a small fish with not a lot of help. whereas Blanka has a record company behind her and dancers. So with some help Jann could have been amazing

The voting system has been changed in favour of the jury only 4 days before the National Final. Up till now we haven't received the detailed voting of the Polish juries and the SMS voting. Polish broadcaster TVP does not react to our petitions regarding transparency of the voting. Moreover, one of the jurors has professional connection with the National Final's winner. Additionally, the jury chef indicated in numerous interviews and comments that she did not know exactly, how the voting worked. We have many more arguments showing that the jury voting was manipulated. In this context we demand the cancelling of the jury voting in Poland and accepting the public voting as the official result or withdrawing from this year's Contest. #escjusticeforpoland #ShowUsTheVotes

This must be a joke. I can literally sing better than that and I can't sing. It's a joke, right? It's straight out of an American Idol 2008 bad audition that people would laugh at. The only decent parts of the song are completely copied from Demi Lovato's song "Solo" (except they are much worse), WHICH HAS THE SAME FREAKING NAME it's so blatant. Maybe they can be disqualified by plagiarism?
When I read that Blanka would be representing Poland at the 2023 Eurovision song contest, I imagined an untamed green, wild beast to start throwing out electric shocks and roll attacks. Then I realised it was an Ariana Grande wannabe with terrible vocals with a song that would have been better suited to junior Eurovision. The pros are that the background LED's are stunning and she's very pretty, but the song is mediocre and the lyrics even more so. I love how she's delusionally slaying the performance though. I remember chanting "go on girl, give us absolutely nothing!" when I heard this live 🤣. Its so repetitive and goes nowhere. Its flat and lifeless. You'd think after seeing how elevated female performers and performances have become in recent years (hello Eleni Foureira, Chanel & Loreen to name but a few), you'd think someone somewhere in the Polish delegation would actually have pushed and polished before unleashing this on the public. Absolutely meh.

I dont know what's happened to the Polish selection show this year. Its amongst one of the weakest, alongside the awful San Marino show. Putting aside the shenanigans, this is a wretched vocal. The song itself is anaemic. The staging is dull, and she has no charm or personality. Apart from that, great job!
This song is pretty basic.I won't say much more about Poland's choice this year as I don't want to get angry again. It might actually even sneak into the final but that's it.
ok, to be fair it needs to be stated that the sound system during this concert was absolutely TERRIBLE during every single one of the performances. this doesn't however change the fact that, yes, blanka cannot sing live at all. edit: oh you've mentioned it lol
Tom, try to find the snippets shown during voting. Now that I understand the plot against Jann, it is obvious why Jann's snippet looked awful (bad angles with not so good singing and not an iconic moment) while Blanka's that immediately followed looked amazing. Not to mention Blanka being the only one with huge name letters on stage to make sure the signer's name got engrained on the minds of voters.
It's Polish Paris Hilton... For better or for worse... I'd argue the latter. Poland once again proves like with The Ride that talent is obviously secondary in its "talent" selection process... The songs themselves are good but the artists are really weak...
I'm afraid to say that I honestly could see this song qualifying. As you say, most people watching and having a beer on the night won't care or don't know about the controversy. Not 100% sure but I think the semi finals are just public vote? The juries won't vote for this. Also there always seems to be one of these type of songs that make the final, for example Like it, Belarus 2019 and Sugar, Moldova 2021. Last year, Ochman, Poland was my favourite song. His vocals were amazing unlike this year.
Oh lord the second semi is rotten, literally only Armenia and Slovenia and kinda Austria save it and there’s a couple of mid songs in there but overall YIKES
The studio version isn’t too bad (obviously had a lot of tweaks in the mixing booth) - it’s a summery breezy bop. It’s nice, but a top 10, let alone winning song? No. Live? Oh my god this was absolutely horrible to listen to. Those vocals were just awful, and the choreography was more wooden than the palm tree scenery behind her. Yes a very pretty girl, but that can only get you so far usually (however Moldova’s “Sugar” at the lives proved me wrong there and I guess an exception to the above 🤣)
Wait until our german entry and we talk again about bad vocals 😂 If Ikke Hüftgold win our national final this entry from poland is championsleague in regards to vocals.
There is a petition with more than 20.000 signatures. But it isn't legal to change the artist because of public outcry, is it? The only way is to prove cheating (which is obvious to see and reasonable to conclude, but difficult to prove leaglly).
Alin, considering just how nefarious and blatant TVP was about this... not bothering to hide it *in the slightest*, they will 100% ignore any petition, and there's nothing the viewers can do about it.. unless they got someone in the Fascist government to intervene... and I wouldnt hold your breath on THAT happening..
With the title "Solo" and "Blanka" sign there paired with her amateur dance moves and horrible vocals this performance could be interpreted as parody of Chanel's "SloMo" 😂 Which is far less serious crime than attempt to copy Chanel or be another Chanel - there's only one🇪🇸👑
This will be battling for last place, even in the somewhat weak semi 2. Vocally it's excruciating, the song is as dull as dishwater. She's got charm, the choreography is fine if nothing groundbreaking. I wasn't even a huge fan of Jann, but that was at least interesting. There is nothing inspired here. It's the laziest entry ever; I said that about Mata Hari but that was an exciting masterpiece compared to this.
