What has impressed me most about Ireland is that 3 people came up with that staging - with its multiple concepts, camera angles, every movement of every limb - practice it and perfect it all while Bambie is doing pre-parties around Europe.
I didn’t think anyone was going to ever beat Kate Miller Heidke’s performance for Australia singing perfect pop opera whilst swinging on massive poles….. Nemo might have actually done it. Just brilliant.
I agree for TV but after watching a video of how it looked live- it was absolutely horrible live. They spent most of the song inside a box so if you were seated at the sides you didn’t get to watch 80% of the performance.
I disagree. The staging distracted me from the song itself, because i was constantly trying to figure out what was happening and how they were creating this gravity-defying illusion. I was too busy to actually listen to the song. A good staging should enhance the song, not take away from it.
Yeah, song and live performance were horrible, but the staging actually looked pretty cool. But it actually did nothing to elevate this song or to let people focus on it for a whole 3 minutes, unlike with Sweden this year, where you actually wanted to know what's coming next. Or even with Sweden 2018. But with Dizzy, people saw the staging, thought it looked cool, but then they were looking at their cellphones again pretty quickly, as it was boring and not much interesting stuff was happening. But it was definitely among the better stagings and leagues ahead of the song or the performance itself.
@@ESCTom and congrats to Ireland on finally coming back into the top tier where it belongs! But I do have to say that Johnny Logan was a class act and I hoped he'd sing Hold Me Now- one of my all-time Eurovision favourites.
For Armenia, I think that another aspect of the staging that deserves mention is the showcase of the instruments. Every instrument on the stage had a moment to shine. I think that’s a big factor as to why it also did well with the juries to our pleasant surprise. They gave their respect to the musical components that helped build the song.
Ireland!!!!! YAS!!!! When I watched it for the 1st time I cried a lot because I was sooo overwhelmed. I wasn't expecting such a stunning and cinamatic stage!!!! ❤
I'm so delighted that we were able to demonstrate so much artistry, storytelling, and pure talent this year with Bambie. I sincerely hope RTÉ will take this as a sign to improve our national final or build upon our staging team for next year. We have so many incredible artists in this country and I'm so glad they may finally showcase it on such a big platform 🇮🇪🎉
Thanks for all of your hard work Tom ❤ You meticulously compile and edit all of the information so well. Wow, Ireland was the winner by a landslide. Well deserved, the staging and performance was out of this world! All of the top 5 are spot on. Glad to see Czechia got some love from the votes too. They really should have qualified this year. Can't wait to see your next videos
I definitely had no problem with the steaminess of "Dizzy" , I just had a problem with the fact that the song and the staging didn't seem to fit at all (for me). I thought that the song was a cute, young love song and then the staging was a shitty, gritty bathroom straight from "Trainspotting". It was like mixing Christina Aguilera's "dirty" video with the song "Beauiful".
Ireland was midtable for me for most of the season and once we saw the full package it was my 2nd place of the year and one of my all time favorite performances. Finland was basically the Eurovision equivalent of that scene in the Simpsons Movie where Bart was nude skateboarding
ireland is my clear favourite but i find myself constantly thinking about ukraines staging. the growth from the national final to malmö was so insane and it feels like every shot could be a painting. jerry recently posted a side by side of their staging and the kakhovka dam flooding which made the whole thing even more impactful to me.
Me and my family just stared at the TV screen for the entire Irish performance. It was the first time we heard the song too and while my family didn't like the song like I did we all agreed the staging was truly mindblowingly good. MASSIVE improvement for Ireland. The contrast between this year and the last 5 years is just insane
Ireland is my favourite staging ever done! Even after the hype is all done for the year! It looks like a short film, not a live performance! It's so incredible and definitely will start a trend next year for clever camera angles
I think the putting up the image of Jerry above the scene looked like she was floating like an angel - I think that was supposed to make her look kind of like an angel hovering over things - the whole "Divine" idea. I loved it! So glad it got #2 with the public vote here. ;-) I gotta be honest, UK's didn't do a THING for me. A dirty shower? Didn't get it. LOL! And Sweden....I guess I can't separate how vapid a song it is from the staging, although I thought they just jumped around. And Ireland!!! Fabulous end to this video! Adored Bambie. I've been wondering when you'd have a new video Tom! My daughter just left for the summer so your timing was perfect to cheer me up - THANK YOU! (Looking forward to the lyrics video!!!) You are the BEST!
Well deserved Ireland!!! Personally I loved San Marinos staging. The colors, the sorta fantastical sorta Alice in Wonderland vibes, and the cute drawings make it a personal favorite ^^
yea i really liked their staging a lot too. i think the reason it didnt make my top 10 is that the cuts to the band didnt work for me. the camera was shaky and it looked a bit amateur, compared to the rest of the package. contrast that with Croatia, where all the cuts to the band looked really cool
Thanks a lot, Tom!! My top 3 are Ireland, Switzerland and Ukraine. The LED appearance of Jerry is, I think, an illusion to the saints she is singing about: All the divas are born as human beings. And of course also an allusion to the nameless paintings of Maria and other saints in former epochs, e.g. by Raffaello.
Ireland for me really elevated their staging beyond anything ive ever seen. Such an incredible visual experience that sold the story Bambie was telling. The UK were up there also for me. Such a clever play with angles and camera work that made an interestng visual experience. Sweden had a clean, modern staging that i really loved. Futuristic, movie like and visually interesting.
Thanks for including my comment 😁. There were so many cool staging packages this year and it's great to see some new creative directors like Tanu Muino, Frederik Rydman and Theo Adams bring some fresh ideas to the contest. The old club of Shipton, Dietmann and Baptiste do have some decent packages, but often play it safe.
yea i think its good to have some fresh competition because some of the "old guard" are getting a bit stale tbh. for example, Dietmann has been a bit one note for me recently.
My top ten from 10-1: France Portugal Estonia Lithuania Croatia Norway Germany San Marino Switzerland Ireland I didn’t expect you to agree with France, I expected everyone to agree with Ireland, and I don’t know why Norway wasn’t on either list
Yeah Ireland, Croatia, Switzerland and Ukraine were definitely the best here. Happy to see Portugal up there as well with the community. Greece was as you know my favourite and I liked the staging, I thought it was cool, but I get why people expected maybe a bit more there. Netherlands was imho quite disappointing after it had been hyped up by Joost's team as "something equivalent to the moon landing". Thanks for the mention ☺
This was a lot of fun 😄 I really enjoyed going back and thinking about all the songs and which ones had the best staging. I knew I had it right when my top 10 didn't match my overall top 10 lol
I think Olly fell the wrong side of the live show vs music video line, much like Benjamin Ingrosso did. I thought the same of Loreen last year and a bit for M&M this year. It was a clever idea but just didn’t quite come off. Not sure why exactly but, yeah. I still think that a big change I’d make if I was able to would be to have a max budget for production, promotion, music video and staging. Give everyone the same upper limit and make them be creative. We know amazing staging can come from lower budgets (Moldova some years, Ireland, and others)
i talked about this in some of my videos, but i think one issue with uk post-sam ryder, both in adult and junior eurovision, is that their stagings are too distant. they feel like they're on a completely different planet to the rest of the contestants, and that creates a sense of disconnect with both the public and the juries, despite how slick the stagings were incidentally, this is part of what makes nemo's staging work: you can clearly tell that it's in the arena, and doesn't try to create a whole new stage away from the audience. it stays close to the camera as well, which is also what made sam ryder's staging work. mae muller was way too far from the camera for most of the performance, and again, it creates a sense of disconnect
Nice logo from mountainlake in switzerland this lake is near to me home bern😍 one thing basel bern zurich and geneva bit for esc 2025 all four have amazing concept's.i hope for bern they have a huge fanvilage idee for 100000 people direkt be the arena
I agree that Ireland 🇮🇪 is absolute winner in the terms of staging and I'm so happy that that happened. Great example how staging can improve a song which was basically borderliner for Q before the rehearsals and get it to the 6th place.Well done. And the biggest disappointment in the this segment is Belgium🇧🇪 by far. Exactly the opposite of 🇮🇪, how bad staging ruined the song with maybe even top 5 potential. 😭😭.
I really don't know why Switzerland is in the top 3 to be honest cause all was there was a disc they kept jumping on or laying on and that's it. Yeah it was tricky with the spinning at times but it doesn't change the fact that it was just the disc, them and lights while others had much more variety on their stagings. Czechia definately deserved to be even higher, they had one of the best stagings in 2024 to say the least. San Marino, Greece, Georgia and many others should had definately be higher then the Netherlands aswell cause he just stayed on one spot and only kicked around during the dance break part and that's it.
France: Am I the only seeing Slimane hit his partner in the face? Halfway through the song, he walks towards the camera, then gestures side to side twice and the camera swings each way. What is supposed to be happening there? Looks like a double face slap to me. Put me right off.
17:00 I don't get the hype with SJB. Previous staging of Switzerland were quite dreadful. The camera angles couldn't keep up and were messy with focus on hand moving to fast out of frame (Gjon's tears) or a red colour way too much stronger not letting the people seeing the artist's face (Luca Hanni). And the two last with Remo and Marius were just... c'mon... I mean... There is a hype around her and this year definitely proved Switzerland could do way much better with someone else.
This is why the song contest is in a such a mess. It is a song contest not a top of the pops with video form background. I hope they bring back the still background with the singer as the mine feature.
I absolutely LOVED Poland's staging. The scenes of LUNA on the red steed were EVERYTHING! It took me a while to realize she was actually laying on the ground. I know it was a LOT for her to have to do, but the staging looked wonderful. Unfortunately, she fell victim to the same breathiness as Lesley Roy did with MAPS in 2021... Another one of my favourites lol.
You can say Finland is hilarious, but I just don't find it funny. Basing a whole performance about pants (or rather no pants) is original, but it's not what everyone finds funny. I for one think it's stupid and trashy.
I can understand you would miss the references to the Finnish mythology in Kalevala (birth of the world from an egg of the goldeneye duck, Henri as the bird...).
@@EmoBearRightsYes, the video was much better with all the warm colors and flute man playing in front of the dancing. In the final, the back drop had cold colors.
Israeli borrowed Latvia's circle 😂😅 not impactful enough, the only thing I enjoyed was the start with eden's impressive flexibility. Girl looked possessed
