i'm pretty sure we serbs as a nation were tired of the same old ballads and sexy women we send every year and decided to send a song we actually care about - the meaning hit a lot of people. so much so that it actually won the televote with double the amount of votes second place (sara jo) got. no matter how it does in turin, it was an important victory for us that this song won the national selection in the first place and will get enough coverage to spread its message.

I just watched it with the subtitles and when I can see each sentence with how she acts, I love it more. Honestly i found Serbia's entry last year a bit depressing. This almost seems like a rebuttal of it I really really want this to do well, because if it does, it could mean a change in the future of Serbian entries.

Im from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and I’m very proud of what Serbia choose! Finally they have chosen a real artist, and artistic song with a deep meaning. It’s talking not just about being obsessed with beauty, and how we look, but also about mental health, and generally health in country. Artists in Serbia, and also in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Balkan countries don’t have a health insurance. This song actually raises many questions in society. #konstrakta 💪🏽🙌🏽🤯

The song "In corpore sano", as Ana (singer and author) explained, represents an atmosphere of fear in which health is placed as the greatest value behind enormous consumption. Health is talked about as something that is completely in our control, but if we follow trends and we buy what is placed. On the other hand, it is possible to achieve a common sense attitude in which health is somewhat in our hands, and illness and finally death are accepted with less fear ... "

So the main layers of this song are: - Explanation that we mainly focus on visible physical signs of illness (dark circles and spots on the body) - The fact that artists in Serbia don't have health insurance - Our obsession with health and trends around it. We are trying to detox, exercise too much, restrict our diets but she ironicaly says that it's great thing that autonomic nervous system exists so it makes our heart work on it's own (without any help). Wow shocking considering how the world brainwashes us that we can't be healthy if we don't follow strict protocols and buy certain products - The fact that we do a lot to keep our physical health good but we ignore the mental aspect of health so she asks what do we do now when we have healthy body but sick mind (these are last verses in Latin)

@kulevb
@kulevb 2 года назад
This play is the purest art. While the lyrics may seem a bit silly at first, they are actually dead serious. The song has so many layers, and a lot of space for different interpretations. Konatrakta herself emphasized the importance of each listener's own interpretation. 1. The song begins with a title from a beauty magazine that Konstrakta once saw: What is the secret of Megan Markle's healthy hair? - This is a reference to the obsession of modern society with beauty; That's what beauty magazines do - they create uncertainty about your hair, skin, nails, weight, etc., and then advertise products that promise to change that. This is what the second line of the song says about "I think the secret is in deep hydration"

It is layered in meaning. She is criticizing the Serbian health system, then there is criticism of medico religion we dropped into, especially in the last 2 years. Lyrics in Latin are a good clue, In corpore sano (in a healthy body), mens inferma (feeble mind), In corpore sano animus tristis (sad soul), In corpore sano mens desperate (desperate mind) etc.... Obsession with physical health and looks, while mind and soul are in a terrible state

Its not so much about serbian health sistem, its about forgeting our inner being, our mental health. We take care of so much less important things and tryi to do things that improve our bodies when there is so many things about our health that actually dont depend on us.
@milanm573
@milanm573 2 года назад
The meaning of the song is very deep: There are several messages: 1. In the time of COVID everybody is brainwashed that they have to do this, that,to stay physically healthy…. And what about mental health after all that? 2. She wears a medical uniform and washes her hands: this is how she describes medical person when someone without a health card comes for treatment ( they wash their hands of that person, it doesn’t exist) 3. People who do not have free health care , and they do not have money , can die freely without a guilty conscience 4. The people around her in back look like rippers, just waiting for those who can’t afford treatment. Or they can be priests cuz praying is the only left when u can’t afford medical insurance or treatment. 5. The general opinion that one must be beautiful, and in order to be beautiful one must be physically healthy. No one cares about mental health anymore, which is also important 6. She is also like a fortune teller looking at her hands trying to figure out why she is sick and what symptoms does she have cuz she can’t afford health care insurance 7. Artists in Serbia don’t have Heath care insurance and her friend died of cancer because of that 8. Obsession with a healthy body while the mind is desperate sick sad and frightened.

onstrakta's best friend passed away from cancer a few years ago because he did not have health insurance. Many artists in Serbia do not have health insurance and health coverage. They are on their own. She is obsessively washing her hands and relying on God, counting steps, hoping she is healthy because she will not be able to afford healthcare if she gets ill. Additionally, the song is a criticism of the obsession with the outside beauty and appearance; people are not even worried about their health; they just wanna know the "secret to healthy hair of celebrities" (e.g., Meghan Markle), or beautiful nails, or beautiful makeup - people do not even care about health, especially mental health. For instance, we were obsessed with Meghan Markle's beauty, but nobody even noticed her mental struggle and depression she was suffering a few years ago. in addition, she used Marina Abramovic as an inspiration for this performance.

Why has nobody translated the first sentence of the song, yet? It says what the song is about in the very beginning. "Onas eroproc ni sonrefne snem" read palindromic and translate from Latin.... you will see... Megan Markel reference is very simple ... She is promoting mental health, but ... people see only "her healthy hair" ... the rest about the meaning was already said multiple times by other people....

Thanks for your reaction, it's very honest😁❤ We in Serbia are very proud of this win, we didn't expect it considering the popularity of etno songs and naked buts 😁 But, I have to say because of some other comments, the songs is not about covid, the singer said it today herself - it's about trend and the need to stay healthy and pretty, but only physically, while mental health is completely neglected. And the need to stay healthy comes from the lack of healthcare system, certain people are invisible to the it due to the lack of insurance so they can only hope nothing bad happens to them. Washing the hands reflects that need to stay healthy and fear of getting sick when you know that you won't be treated if you don't have enough money.

It's not about covid. Our hands aren't clean enough because cleanness is half of our health . In the other hand she wearing medical uniform and that frequent washing of hands could mean the next patient while she battling her battles with raw thoughts. The song is about our obsession with our appearance and health but when it's come to our soul and mental health we forget to nurture. That's why that last latin lyric. The part when she mentioned heart rate and how it ticking by itself and that we don't need to control that...let it ticking, let me breath...God let be a helt etc. Oooh and flowers in her pocket backdays represent very frequent gift in hospitals especially carnation, in hospital especially on cemetery.

I'm from Serbia. The choreography can only be understood if you're familiar with the orthodox Christian church tradition. The guys that she is surrounded with, with the towels around their necks and with the vessel filled with water that he pours on her hands and later she dries her hands with the towel the second guy has, is the picture from the Holy Archiereus Liturgy, the Liturgy that is served by the bishop or the Patriarch, so the head of the Church. So, knowing this it is easier to understand that this is the criticism of the Church. She is referring to the hippocrisy of the Church members, I guess those the most respected ones. Greetings from Serbia! ❤️

1)The name of the song "In corpore sano" is in latin and it’s short from the latin saying "Mens sana in corpore sano" meaning "A healthy mind in a healthy body". 2)”What's the secret behind Meghan Markles healthy hair?” part refers to mainstream media constantly bombing us with different health tips that are usually there just to promote products and/or make us more insecure. 3)The part saying that our skin and hair show it all refers to people making assumptions about someone's health just based on their looks and emphasizing physical health while a person can look really good but have many mental health issues no one knows about. 4)Artists in Serbia aren't recognized as workers by law so they don't get free health insurance meaning they have to pay to be treated in private clinics which a lot of them can't afford including Konstrakta's former band member which died of leukemia cause he couldn't afford treatment.The first and second chorus are different.The first one says "An artist MUST be healthy" referring to international artists that get free healthcare, while the second one says "An artist CAN be healthy" referring to artists in Serbia and the healthcare system not caring about their well-being. 5)The part where she prays to god for health and says she puts her trust in her heart beating refers to her having to rely on god and her own body to regulate her health cause that's her only option being an artist in Serbia. 6)The part where she says the artist is invisible and it’s like magic refers to artists not being recognized by the government and the healthcare system. 7)The last part of the song is in latin and it refers to people prioritizing physical health and outside looks over mental health which is also very important. Now let’s talk about the staging: 1)The obsessive hand-washing refers to COVID 19 and the importance of keeping your hands clean again massively talked about in the mainstream media while neglecting the impact the pandemic had on people's mental health. It also can be paying homage to one of Marina Abramovic’s (internationally known Serbian performance artist) performances called “Art must be pretty, an artist must be pretty” where she sits for hours combing her hair while repeating that cause she realized people focused a lot on her looks and her hair being messy and prioritized that over her art. 2)People standing behind her can be priests that pray for her health and/or are getting ready for her to die. (.tnx to bogdan)

I completely agree that the performance needs something to make it more accessible to the wider eurovision audience. She did say that the song is not going to be re-recorded in english, but she and the team are gonna definitely look into solving this problem and make it more understandable. The leader (or whatever the position is called) of serbian eurovision team also confirmed today that they are aware of the comments and reactions, and of the problem of the song and the message not being understandable to others. And they are gonna carefully look into it on how they could "translate" the message so others get it too. After all, that's the core of the song. It's not like some other songs, like Molitva or 1944, whose emotions were the only language needed to get to the audience. This song is a whole package, one can't go without the other. We can all like the beat, the choreography, the design, the voice, but when we don't understand what the message is, then everything falls around it and doesn't transfer properly. Nevertheless, for people that are intrigued and follow Eurovision, it won't be hard to investigate and understand it. But we are not the majority of the public vote body.
@ESCTom
@ESCTom 2 года назад
well 1944 had the opening lines in English, which helped. But yea Molitva got through with no english, but its strength was the vocals and the melody. Im glad to hear that the Serbian head of delegation and team are listening to feedback - it sounds promising
@marrecar
@marrecar 2 года назад
@@ESCTom I don't even remember that with 1944 lol But yeah, I also think a good idea would be that all commentators just give a heads up for the song on what is it about. Not sure how that one could be enforced, but it would still help a lot. Other than that, they could maybe have a short text in the performance saying for example "independent artists in Serbia have no medical insurance. they are not the only ones, etc". I mean, there's a lot of ways that the team can take, it's only important to keep the atmosphere of the performance and not break the flow.

Konstrakta says : "I don't have health ensurance" was emerged like lot of people are most recognized. On the other side some people connect that with Covid and the whole situation even that wasnt my basic meaning. Probably there is satiation with all about Covid and presure to be healthy. For now I see that these two things is most stand out. There is so much more themes .Also there's no intention, its simple some process of thoughts on this topic and start with that chaos in media and that infosphere about health that point out on "Hair of Meghan Markle" which is mentioned like something that is really important and passing by atmosfere that "Artist" and all of us must be healthy, thats presure and like that is something most wanted and top value in life and a bunch of trends that is in that field and also that question, do I have a support of system ? Do I have health ensurance ?And option that you can be healthy if you make a distance of all that pressure to spending endless examination and supplements etc. On the other hand there is frase on Latin with two sides. At first, there is a body that is a base of consummation and second psychologically healing "I sta cemo sad (So now what)" ? Mens infirma in corpore sano(A sick mind in a healthy body) Animus tristis in corpore sano(A sad soul in a healthy body) Mens desperata in corpore sano(A desperate mind in a healthy body) Mens conterrita in corpore sano(A terrified mind in a healthy body) In this moment I see that like a new area of consumption. Stratification all state of psychology and finding cure for all psychology condition which is background of consummation.

Hi Tom. My first reaction was ‘wtf’ and if something is like that usually I kick against it but it is a bit of an ear worm. I’m reminded of Lori Anderson, the underground artist famous for ‘Oh! Superman’. I’m also reminded of Conan Osiris from Portugal in 2019 which was similarly Avant Garde. It is arresting and very memorable and will get a lot of jury love but I don’t think it will grab the casual viewer enough and will end up being a beloved fascinoma like ‘Telemoveis’ PS Nice haircut!

Love your short short coupe! 🤩 This song went straight into my top 10. Just off sound and visuals alone. I need to be more in on the performance though. You're right when you say you feel a little bit excluded because you don't know what she's singing about. I'm curious if she will 'simplify' it for a bigger audience. And if, how.

it kind of sucks to say, but i really think she needs to put it mostly into English if she wants the full impact. The message of it is universal, but if people cant understand what she's saying, it would be totally lost and it would be such a shame. Often its sad when a song is translated into English, but in this case I think its necessary

In Serbian lenguage is an expression " Washing there hands from it.". Meaning when somebody did some wrong to someone, and then tried to camouflage whole situation, to blame somebody else, or even a victim, for consequences. Like with situation with virus and big corporations which they earned on us... like taking care of our body during past to years, then like with v. aci. c nes, bat terorising us with fear At there is coming to " In healthy body healthy mind", where we are forced to take only care of our body (especially in last two years), where our mind health and souls stays behind.

It has many meaning some that I didn't see ppl mention in the comments: 1. The conflict between the Christian church and the vaccination proces. (The church is famously against the vaccine saying that is the devils work) That's why the choir members kinda resemble priests with the white and black combination. 2. One of her friends died of cancer cause she didn't have health insurance 3. She herself doesn't have any health insurance 4. Obsessively washing her hands cause of the fear that the virus crisis has bestowed on our society. Fearing getting sick cause there aren't doctors that will treat you if you don't have health care or money to pay their expensive services. 5. The second part is referring to mental health and how it's not being talked enough about in Serbia and in countries in general. When someone needs the help of a professional they don't go to the doctor cause a psychiatric visit costs way to much and is generally stigmatized. Those ppl with problems go then to the church for help. And that's how it all circles around to the beginning.

I really don't want for this to have any language changes. Like with Molitva - the language is important part of it. Especially the word play will give her a lot in Slavic countries, which is the only thing she really needs - cause she is in very slavic heavy semi-final. I don't think this will win, but she didn't even want to win the nationals. This is contemporary art, this is the cry of an artist to the society. The monotone and compulsory actions and the lyrics all play into the message of this. This is song contest and Serbia is sending theatrical message about lack of medical care for Serbian artist (I have read her friend died from heart attack - which makes the lyrics even more meaningful). It's unsettling, it's selling what many of us feel now - fear for our lifes. So the only thing we can do is to pray for better Health. Would English be understandable for others? Yes. But the soul of performance is very intimate, so keeping it native feels more genuine. This will make some people think, this will make some check what's the song about. The winning condition for Serbian performance is to be seen, not to win. It fits super well into the competition this way.
@ESCTom
@ESCTom 2 года назад
yea but honestly Molitva's strength was in the melody and the vocal and they had a very universally entertaining stage show. ICS relies much more on the lyrical meaning - otherwise you have no context for why she is washing her hands. There are other ways of making a song accessible other than just dumping it into english. they need to try several ways and then TEST it on europeans and see if its working

"Weak mind in healthy a body, a sad soul in a healthy body, a desperate mind in a healthy body, a frightened mind in a healthy body ... AND WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NOW? "

She is just saying that artists in Serbia don’t have healthy insurance, so they “must” be healthy as she was singing! So it’s not only about herself but also about every artist in general! Only “workers” and their family can use for free public hospitals for example but the artist aren’t seen as workers in Serbia so they have to pay a lot to the private hospitals if they have some healthy problem! However this is not the only message that she is spreading, there are many actually.

There are more than 2-3 different, important topics and even more interpretations. 1. Megan: Rich people/ contrast in lifestyle, "beauty", their artificially and us, ordinary people on the other side. 2. Washing hands: in Slavic nations it emphasises how the "authorities/governments" "washing hands" or not taking responsibility for the wellbeing of the ordinary people (water washes everything/every dirt from their hand/authorities hands). 3. Last 2 years & Covid-19 measures, people were locked at home, directed to wash hands/face etc. in order to keep themselves healthy but at the same time them 5 people in dark clothes standing & watching?! These are the authorities. 4. "Let the heart beating..." we are actually left alone, nobody cares about ordinary people. 5. Find a video with English subtitles and read what is she singing in her last 3-4 sentences in Latin!!!! This is actually the finale..." ill/sick mind in the healthy body" = we became unwell/ill because of the restrictions during last few years...the ongoing lockdowns across the planet created so many mental health problems. 6. Now after hearing/ understanding last 3 sentences, go to the beginning and start again... here come the rich people (Megan)... they can be "beautiful" ...bla,bla... but in the end copying them, celebrities makes us all artificial and we lost our mind, ourselves, we gave/sold our souls, our individuality because of copying various top models and celebrities. :)

The biggest inspiration for the song is in the way how unprotected and insecured, from medical institutions point of view, artists are - in Serbia, but in many other countries as well. Especially during pandemic this was an incredible risky period as beside not having the same rights as many other professionals, artists also couldn't earn their livelihood which put them in even greater danger. Since in Serbia it's not only artists that are neglected by the system, but many other professions as well, this song is especially dedicated to all of them. But I guess that even wider audience can relate to it, especially those who feel how we are taking care only about physical aspects of us and neglecting mental and soulful side of us humans, which is why the song is so powerful.

What we fought for a long time ago on May 1, you all forgot a long time ago. Every employee has the right to health insurance, ie the employer is obliged to provide health insurance. or not? why and when did we all agree to this? The great singer put it very well and you think ... when did you agree to buy an expensive car or yacht with the money you need to pay for health insurance? so sing ..be healthy ... be healthy ..
