This song is on a completely higher level, it doesn't matter at all how it will be placed on Eurosong, this song is completely above all. This is not just a song, this is a concept, a play, poetics, visualization, avant-garde ... Enjoy!
Lyrics make more sense with the performance. This song is a full package. The song is a train of thought a modern well educated woman faces in this world. You open a magazine, and headline says "What's the secret of Megan Markle's perfect hair", you read the article, there's not much there, but you soon learn that some skin imperfections are present due to malfunction of one of your organs (i.e spleen, liver) and you start obsessing about your health, you must be healthy, just be healthy, be healthy, be healthy! Then you become grateful that your body is doing a lot of work for you due to the autonomic nervous system, but is that enough, then you start praying, but is that enough? What if you are left on your own? Finally the self revelation hits in when she says "In corpore sano, corpo si sano, i shta chemo sad", which translates from Latin and bit of Serbian as "in healthy body, body is healthy, and now what?", and closes the song twisting famous Latin proverb as "sick mind in healthy body, sad soul in healthy body, desperate mind in healthy body, frightened mind in healthy body" and closes with a slapping question "Now what". Song is not a Eurovision entry, it's not a radio song, it's a piece of performance art. Song is not quirky, fun or weird. It's very strong and serious, it's as a full grown up came to Eurovision contest surrounded by children. Song criticizes mass media, obsession with health and beauty standards and inspires mental health awareness. Note that singer is not a 20 year old flashing girl, dancing half naked and emitting onomatopoeic sounds. This is a 43 year old, grown up woman, mother of two, with an architecture degree and 20 years of alternative music career that probably only has followers in a local club. She came to reflect how she feels, all while fully dressed, sitting and just washing hands. And yet, all eyes are on her. Song resonates strongly to grown ups, because we all feel like this. As you age, specially for woman, obsession with beauty gets replaced with obsession with health and as life passes by you are just becoming more paranoid and frightened. Not to mention that all media headlines are written to instill fear or disgust with something. So the song in a way is saying "if you die healthy, you're still sad", but more on a level "if you are perfectly healthy after this "be healthy" obsession, you are still mad". It's one of those song that makes perfect sense in native tongue, but it's hard to relay the emotion and the message to other language. Isn't that the point of Eurovision?
A sick mind in a healthy body A sad soul in a healthy body A desperate mind in a healthy body A frightened mind in a healthy body So what do we do now? Awakening song!
Everybody seems to not understand the bit where she says "me and my dog are taking a walk and counting steps" - it's yet another reference to our dependence on modern technology (smart phones and watches that are counting our steps, and the recommended number of steps per day) in our effort to keep our bodies healthy. But what about our minds?
The lyrics are not to be taken literally, they are sarcastic. So when she wonders about the secret of Meghan Markle's healthy hair and talks about dark circles around the eyes and liver and spleen issues, she is actually citing parts of meaningless news articles that impose these surreal ideas of beauty and health on us. When she says that the artist HAS to be healthy, she is mocking the dominant narrative that encourages people to overspend in order to stay healthy...leaving us frightened, desperate, paranoid....That is why in the second chorus, right after talking about enjoying the walk with her dog, she says that the artist CAN be healthy...And the dog walking part is meant to say that you don't need to spend money on supplements and gyms and stuff to be healthy, both mentally and physically, that it just might be enough to walk the dog (or otherwise enjoy your existence, appreciate the fact that your heart beats, it beats on its own. Hope that makes sense :)
Najbolji si... Emotivan si, jer si inteligentan... Shvatio si... Tvoja reakcija je takodje dobar performans... Hvala ti. Pozdrav iz Beograda, glavnog grada Srbije.
I love this song because it’s different, addictive beat, awesome staging and awesome message. Sorry but all the other songs this year are so predictable pop songs you would hear on the radio or typical of t. We need something unique to win and a message to all!
To better understand, turn on subtitles/cc. It is actually pure artistic theater play in four acts packed in just 3 min. covered with a fantastically arranged musical matrix around a hypnotic rhythm, which perfectly follows the story told with a vocal that vibrates as part of the music (take attention for all details). Enough to be a masterpiece, even in the selection of the famous theater festival in Edinburgh. And the story is as follows Intro - EVERYTHING IS UPSIDE DOWN A modified Latin saying: a sick mind in a healthy body was read backwards. Act one - ROUTINE We waste our time following celebrities and other people's lives, and discuss about them, about nonsense through the social networks (what is the secret of healthy hair Megan Markl). It's going even deeper. This became normal behaviours and it is compared with health, healthy behaviour. So, expectation is that artress also must be part of this "normal behaviours" (MUST be healthy). Act two - LONELINESS We are now part of this routines, some system control our fundamental functions (heart ticking and breathing), we are alive, in virtual world and it's OK. But we are alone. No children, no friends, only dog. We are walking satisfied but without sense, with empty mind (counting steps, and that's all). Act three - COGNITION Knjižica in Serbian is not only social security, but it's also symbol of belonging to some system or organisation as a member What if I am not a member? If I'm out of system? We will lost our followers, others will not monitor us anymore (what was normal, healthy), nobody will "care" about us, or organize our life (what was normal, healthy), and artress become invisible when she is out of system. Act four - WAKING UP The absence of system influence artress see like a magic, becouse it means independence, so she CAN be healthy, with open mind, according to Latin saying "men sana in corpore sano" (healthy mind in healthy body). Can be, can be, can be. conclusion - WHAT'S ABOUT MIND? Everything is about body condition (corpore sano, corpore sano, corpus is sano - and body is healthy), but no one talks about the state of mind. So, she mentions those states of mind and ask: And what shell we do? And finally, the messages from the stage and the video. When health is mentioned, hand movements show that something is not normal. We need to be washed constantly, to be clean. Our mind same as our body. Either others will do it or we will do it ourselves. Again and again... So, regardless of the placement, its appearance is a victory for Serbia and the Eurovision Song Contest.
this was by far the best reaction xd it was so funny seeing you gradually realize the quality of the song, the message and everything else! keep it up! My favorite part is the latin part at the end as well!
🇷🇸🇬🇧❤❤🇪🇺 Victor You have 12 points for a your representation of the our Serbian song from me ! Thank you very much ! Yes, the song is very "deep" with strong messages for everyone on planet Earth ! Europe, vote for Serbia ! Serbia hides many "secrets" that you can reveal when you visit us next year on ESC 2023 in Belgrade - Serbia ! I wish you enjoy and good time in Serbia !
Her victory at the national festival was a sensation. Now, after seven days, she has only gained even more public interest. There were three clear favorites in the competition, of which Sara Jo was a super super favorite, and she was really great, but she had the misfortune that Konstrakta had a performance of her life. Konstrakta was not a favorite at all nor did she have media attention, the irony is that When she won, most journalists did not have any interviews with her. When the semifinals of the social network erupted, the artist must be healthy. A record was broken in the total number of votes received and in the number of votes she received. There have never been so many voices of the audience at the national festival. The song is very complex and only when it is listened to a couple of times do you slowly get to the heart of the story. The song criticizes the society and system in which we live where everything comes down to the surface, where we are subject to the trends of beauty (Megan Markle's hair) and healthy living, where our mind is sad, unhappy ... but in a healthy body. Each part of the text and performance has its own story, you just need to understand it in the right way. I think this song can be a big surprise on esc.
Thank you for a great reaction 👍 we, people from Serbia was also shocked, so i can imagine how you feel after listening this song 🎶 its true masterpiece, lyrics, stage, her voice and back vocals, music 🎶
Just to explain lyrics at the very beginning - she actually says "Mens infirma in corpore sano" but in reverse (thus "Onas eroproc ni amrifni snem") but there are multiple typos in YT subtitles ("Onas eroproc ni somrefne snem"). For ones who don't know Latin or are too lazy to google and find translation for this Latin phrase, translation to English is something like "A sick mind in a healthy body".
This is a very serious work of art that calls for deeper thinking. It doesn't matter how the competition goes. The Internet is already glowing, and that is the purpose of art. (Reaction) Hand sign: Visible - Invisible Opposing media propaganda. Black - White Positive - Negative A refrain is a kind of mantra that we need to listen to every day to make our mental health better. Sound is the cure and therapy for this gloomy society of today!
the last bit of translation is not all right. chorus says in corpore sano (in a healthy body) she concludes that THE BODY IS HEALTHY now (corpus je sanum). then goes final in Latin where she sings that there is a desperate mind, sad soul in a healthy body. and then she ask us, ok, and now what? We have healthy body and in many cases that healthy body is just an empty shell, or beautiful and healthy exterior with mental problems inside and no one really cares. try to listen it again after digest the lyrics. probably not the winning material but her messages are 100% won contest already about national selection, there were huge favorites, but she came out of nowhere and won both jury and televote by historic margin
@@iamvictorred Mens sana in corpore sano (A sound mind in a sound body). The point artist is trying to make is that news media write and talk about health, supplements, diet, beauty, exercising... Meghan Markle was mentioned because in media there was an article about most important issue for the survival of life on our planet, her hair. According to media, woman has to be beautiful, artist has to be beautiful and healthy otherwise can not succeed. And artist asks: What about "Mens sana" part? Media do not care about state of mind, peoples spirit, mental health. To the contrary. Fake news, all sorts of lies (Serbians are especially sensitive because they were and still are victims of media warfare for over three decades) are there to make us total idiots, ignorant about what really is happening around us, spreading belief that nuclear war can be won or that Putin is going to back down if enough pressure he is under, unaware of how close we are of destroying our home, Earth. Read lyrics carefully several times, and pay attention to lyrics at the end: "A sick mind in a healthy body A sad soul in a healthy body A desperate mind in a healthy body A terrified mind in a healthy body" Celebrities appear beautiful, healthy and they are successful. Than, unexpectedly, they commit a suicide. Whitney Houston, Robin Williams, Anthony Bourdain... Whole stage is a metaphor. She represents health system which washes hands (denies responsibility). Pontius Pilate washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person (Jesus). He was washing his hands of the responsibility. "Metallic voices" and robotic movements with hands represent estrangement - dehumanization. During performance there's no emotion on her face. She is like robot. She walks her dog. That is another sign of estrangement, proof that our civilization is on verge of extinction. It is sad that dog became man's "best friend". I remember times (I am 67) when my best friends walked on two legs (and without leash - covid pass or passport). Music is, also, descriptive. After "I do not have health insurance" there is GP and rhythm (heart beat) stops (heart sinks "into her feet") there is a "cuckoo" musical effect symbolising psychotic episode - travel to "parallel - alternative world", something like "alternative truth" as Donald Trump said. This is the moment when she realizes: "How will they be able to keep track of me"? Chorus sings: "In the name of health". Brilliant. At the end there is sequence of semi-tone steps upward in music called "tonal jump" used to elevate tension towards climax: "So, now what"? Which I understood as "We are all nuts". Very well done. Do not take everything literary.
@@alalbatross6549 omg this is so deep and so much in just 3 minutes. I love her for that. This was my first reaction/ encounter with this song and I could not get all the little details on my first try, as I said in the video "there is so much my brain can not comprehend", so I hope you understand that. And thanks for the extra information.🥰
Your reactions are so genuine and sweet. Plus, you've understood the art in this song and the genius of Konstrakta. I have thoroughly enjoyed this video! Thank you and cheers from Australia, from a Serbian.
Just one fun fact - the guy standing right behind her is co-author of this masterpiece, her friend from Zemlja Gruva, Milovan Boskovic :) Your reaction is epic, didn't see so honest face expressions so far, very cute :) BIT BIT BIT BITI ZDRAVA +++
Key to understanding this song is symbolism. Meghan Markle's hair symbolizes public beauty/celebrity obsession. Liver and spleen - again, mentioned in the context of appereance (!), do you need more? She puts her trust in autonomous nervous system, why? Because there's little else to put the trust in. Creepy, but true. And the last few verses are a powerful condemnation of overall social superficiality...
The whole song/performance is a reflection of modern world. It is weird and creepy just as much as the whole world is. This woman is giving us an opportunity to think. But we may choose naked butts and vocal exhibitionism instead. Serbia has made its choice and I'm proud of it.
@@nikolaperin8471 I am so gratefull that I got to experience this song. For me the lyrics are the most important thing most of the times, apart when I just want to dance or party. I am proud that you guys chose this one, even though because of the language barrier it won't reach everyone watching the final, at least a lot of eurovision fans already that are more involved with ESC than the average viewer.
@@iamvictorred Yeah, the improbable happened. Common, ineducated people chose art over naked butts and vocal exhibitionism. How weird is that? Perhaps it can happen again in May. Cheers from Belgrade, mate!
Love your sincere reaction. Incremented the first time seeing the performance (and I am half Serbian). It was indeed a rollercoaster. But such a great one!
Did you wake up You are not the only one ... many are just beginning to understand the artistic height of this work. Ana (Konstrakta), a wonderful woman, talented and different. Ana, ante portas: veni, vidi, vici ( come, see, shout). Will anyone recognize it in the EU, I don't know, but ... it will be remembered for the MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE for people, and, of course, for washing hands (did Pontie Pilate also want to wash his hands, do you think?)
It’s been some days since I have discovered that song. Without understanding serbian I was impressed by her performance, both with respect to her music and singing and her stage presence. After some days of having searched for further information, I do believe that this song had to be the first in the competition.
It's so funny and sad how Konstrakta has 0 expectations from the contest. She went to Serbian contest as a joke. Was convinced she'd be dead last. When she won she said: "My name is Konstrakta, and I did not expect the victory" - a quote everyone is now repeating in Serbia. When she was up for Turin she was very worried about carrying her message to European listeners and her first couple of performances in Israel and Croatia were a bit insecure. Even for the semifinal, she insisted on subtitling the song with Eurovision organizers, and in the end they did do something, but ended up being awkward a bit. All in all, you have an outstanding artist, who's been creating songs with powerful messages for 20 years that very few in Serbia listen to due to its "alternative" nature. She's a mother of two, well educated (architecture degree) and self aware woman who does not need to get naked to grab everyone's attention. She carries a powerful message in mindblowing lyrics (that she wrote herself) and is by far the most intelligent entry in this contest. No one comes close by a mile. I am only sad that she feels insecure and does not believe in herself and her chances in the contest. Her body language and attitude towards the contest was a bit uptight and meek. She still doesn't believe she could win and even semifinal performance was less impactful than Belgrade one. They did not change much in song staging, but it looks much poorer than in Belgrade. I really hope she gains some confidence and somehow improve the staging (nothing wrong with it, but in Belgrade, it was much better). PS: I am sure fans saw many analysis of the song in lyrics, but I noticed one important thing is missed in all that I found. Do you know what a hand gesture she's making means? Not the clapping, but raising hand and twisting the palm? In Serbia, it's what people do to express that someone's mind is not in a right place. In sense, that person is crazy, or something is wrong in their hand. That gesture really makes the performance even stronger for Serbian watchers. It's like famous hand opening Italians do, but Serbian one is not that famous.
I am very glad that I have seen your video. You also must be a good man since you've seen good in her and I liked your way of comenting since I could see your true emotion, and you also saw that in her 🍀🍀
She is not a singer, she is an artist, she made the whole performance (acting, singing, giving so much emotion, practically only with her face and minimal moves. About the song: She starts singing about Meghan Markle because that is the society now days talking about superficial subjects like the most important topics on our daily life when much more importan things happen around. - After that she starts to sing about diseases but still from a aesthetic point of view but going deeper in the lyrics. - Then she says and the artist "must" be healthy, but like an obligation, and here I take "healthy" like pretty for the photos, magazines, etc, not really healthy. - Then she mentions how lucky is she because the autonomous nervous system and the heart that work by themselves, basically because if you don't have a good health system, the many people (not in Serbia, in the world), must trust their health to the destiny, the luck, because if you get a serious illness then in many cases people die because of the fucking system. - When she sings about she and her dog going for a walk, enjoying the day, and that it doesn't need anything else, then she means that in the stressful world that we live we forget that sometimes we only need to take a time for ourselves as enjoy the simple things of the life. - The previous point gives like an optimistic focus and that is reflected in the music, she says "just leaves the heart beats by itself and God give us healthy, so we don't control anything, until she breaks this optimistic phase by saying "I don't have knijizu (it is not health insurance) it is the old health card that serbians were using in public health system and that is not even used now days so she wanted to say that health issues are not something new, it is something that comes from long time ago and that there is not access to a decent health system. - Then she mentions all the worries for the artists, but it is not limited to artists, "artists are invisible", without having contract and working like independents many time they don't have the same rights as other people, but it is not limited only to artists, and they answer to her worries, "in the name of healthy" because the system, farmacies, medical attention is always "worried" about your health since it became a business. - Then the chorus changes the artist "must" be healthy for the artist "could be" healthy, if the system changes if the superficial focus about "healthy body" changes as well. - That's why at the end she asks us what shall we do now if the body is "healthy" but on a sick, desperate, etc mind, because no one mentons all the issues related to mental health that most of times are invisible or the people don't have access to be treated for those issues. - People says the song is monotone, but they made it so great that those changes that you can see through the song, reflect all the variations in the emotio s that are expressed. - In addition, they made a song with a catchi chorus and with her washing hands and mentioning Meghan Markle, because they knew that the deep meaning of the song would not be understandable for all unfortunately, so for those people with lower IQ, the song caught their attention too and I see a lot of comments like did she say Meghan Markle 🙄; is she washing her hands? (After a couple of years with COVID and repeating us all the time that we must wash hands that should be basic hygiene always) the people asked that; or the clapping hands constantly. - And well they used Latin what was also smart because the contest was in Italy but plus that latin is the language used in medicine also. - She washes her hands during all the song what ca be related to the obsessions (mental issues), but also caused by the situation during Covid when media cause a kind of psychosis i. some persons making the Covid situation even worse. - Also the people that surround her, they are like voices or the society, religion etc that pushes to you to follow some "rules" or to do something but that don't give you anything. For sure it has much more in the song, this is my opinion but even then you can see what was done by Konstrakta and for sure she deserved the first place.
