Raiven is the type of artist that I'm so glad that Eurovision exists for. Clearly a person with big ideas who now has a stage big enough to showcase them. So excited to see what she does in Malmö!
About Vernonika (Deseniška): Veronika was the second wife of Friderik II of Celje, the first woman in Slovenia accused of witchcraft by her father-in-law. Friderik went into hiding with Veronika while his father searched for them. Friderik was lured into a trap by his brother-in-law Sigismund, the King of Hungary and Holy Roman Emperor. He was taken to his father while the search for Veronika continued. She hid in the wilderness for some time in great distress and misery. After being caught, she was put on trial and, with the help of a good advocate, acquitted. However, she was then imprisoned by her father-in-law and later murdered-drowned in a bathtub in the castle that was her prison.
So beautiful! It really builds up to a powerful climax so I hope she can keep the audience's attention in the first two thirds of the song. VERONIKA! 💗💙💗
The first song for Eurovision 2024 that I genuinely enjoyed. Yes, we have only 4 songs at the moment but still, having a good start is a nice thing. Also I'm nicely surprised that we have such a good song from Slovenia since they are not the strongest country in Eurovision and it's cool to see them improving
This is a great choice from Slovenia. It's not what one would call a "catchy" song which might work against it in an all televote semi. But I really like it, it's got a great story, it's compelling and mesmerizing. The production is so good! There's a great artistic vision here as well. I hope Raiven can bring that to the stage; if so, this will really be one to look out for.
Yes. This is what we need more of. Authentic music and fantastic vocals. I like this entry Tom........i don't love it...just yet. But i know that come May that is a formality. Quality deserves success and this is major quality Well done Raiven and well done Slovenia 👏👏👏

I am IN LOVE with this song! First listened to it like, wow, cool. After reading the lyrics and listening a couple more times, now I can't stop. I don't even speak Slovene and I can already sing this along since I can't stop listening to it. I am such a sucker for angsty, artsy and dramatic music with a lot of feeling and metaphor, though, so I guess shouldn't be surprised I love it.
I wasn't sure about it on first listen. I love Raiven and have been hoping she'd be internally selected for so long so I had high expectations. On repeated listens tho, I love it! Hopefully she stages it well, I am a little worried because her ema performances that had a similar sound were mostly just her standing there with lighting going on around her.
She’s a lovely person with a kind heart and I did post that if she drops the end chorus and sings the opera backing bit live it’ll be insane. Just needs to reverse both around and it’s perfect ❤️
This is really good, being watching some of her previous material. She is a really great artist!! Hope they will make it to the ESC finals as she totally deserves it.

I seem to be in the minority who does not get this song. I think it is currently the best offering, because so few songs have come out. However, it may not survive televote. It needs a splendid staging to appeal more.
The song is weak and overhyped like last year, but if she ends up in a SF with Gate from Norway or Sara from Finland, she doesn’t stand a chance to qualify. Slimane is a lot better, imo. France will easily make the top 10
I can imagine that this will be inspired by the staging of Loreen from last year. The Slovenian team will likely capitalise on the cinematic, atmospheric qualities of the composition to elevate the emotional side of the song. My first listen was without the music video so i could get a feel of the song without the distractions of the imagery. My second one was with the music video and i enjoyed the cinematic quality. A few listens in and i feel like this is currently the best of the four released songs, but i can imagine myself getting bored of this quickly. I am looking forward to seeing what they do with the staging.
If this song doesn't make top 10 I'll be very very disappointed on Europe as a whole ! What a nice package, a lot of work went into the sound effect, amazing !
Raiven needs to add one thing to give Slovenia’s best result yet- clapping. Clapping (and that catchy hook) is what made the difference between in corpore sano and EAEA- two songs that on paper were really similar but had hugely different results in the televote. With a catchy clapping pattern, Slovenia becomes a top 10 contender, but without that, it qualifies in 10th and comes bottom 5. Please don’t be 2024’s EAEA and clap, clap, clap!!!

My favorite ESC 2024, on repeat since first hearing it! Better audio IF YOU DON’T look at the video simultaneously. And AUDIO is what makes this song stand out! See, that sound, GRAA, may be imitating raven or crow, sounding like Rooting for Slovenia last year as well, really growing every year. Balkans does deliver quality every year more and more, surprises even, either Croatia or Serbia, Slovenia original every year! Favorite DORA 2024 this year: Eugen: Tišine Kedžo overdoing it this year, I liked “Divlji vjetre” more. LET 3, same as Konstrakta, original, but repeating pattern at the same time. Baby Lasagna, well, I understand the youth in this, but, what does it have to do with your country representation? I don’t get it.
Following their pattern with 2 qualifications and 2 NQs in a row, this one is probably gonna qualify. But it depends on so much stuff, eg, running order, direct competition from Poland, Greece, maybe Norway and other countries potentially sending female ethnic bops, voting buddies, etc, etc, so we can't say anything about it at the time being.
Pretty much on the same page as you with this one - think it's got potential but will need some clever staging to convey the theme. I wonder if she's taken any inspiration from Konstrakta who of course also performed a rather dark song with a somewhat political message in her native language and pulled it off brilliantly. I reckon this would finish about mid table but could also be a dark horse. Time will tell!
Hi there... Short recap of Veronika story. It's about the historical story of the greatest counts on Slovenian lands. It's the real story of Romeo and Juliet from Slovenia. Jung count fell in love with Veronika after being married with blood lines from nowdays croatian. So his father, the count of Celje (that got the title of king in last decade) didn't support sons and Veronica decision and started to attack a couple. Also because of church involvement. Veronika was from a small village called Dišnik nowadays in Croatia as a daughter of a low born nobleman. So the first wife of joung count died in a strange way. For years they were avoiding the count. Young count built a castle in remote parts of Slovenian forests. He married Veronika, his father the count finally got him imprisoned. Then they hount down Veronika and have a trial against her. She was not guilty but the count got her imprisoned and murdered/drowned anyway. The story goes that the couple had a blind son. Which was murdered too. She was buried in a small village church and later her husband removed her remains to the monastery of kartuzians in Jurkloster. Bloodline of the counts died within the next generation. With last of the counts grandson, a young count son, a first born from first marriage. That was brought up by a sick grandfather with big ambitions. At the golden age of family bloodline the count was one of the strongest in SE Europe. The daughter of count was married and became an Empress of the Holy Roman Empire, Queen of the Czech Republic, Queen of Hungary, Queen of Germany. Sad story, where the old count just destroyed his bloodline. As there was no ear after nephew, the Habsburgs took over most of the lands. As that was a part of political agreement among two families. I love the visuals, the language, the concept. However, as a song, this is really lacking. You’re absolutely right that it doesn’t have a typical pop song structure, but I think in this case that’s a detriment. There’s a lot of buildup that doesn’t pay off, I’ve listened to it several times and I still can’t hum the melody. Staging really will make or break this.
It's only my first listen and it doesn't do a lot for me. Some people might say that it grows on you but it doesn't have that luxury in the semis. The vast majority of voters will be hearing this for the first time so I am quite pessimistic about its chances.
About the wow moment: it would be amazing if they could put her on a pyre and made it look like as if she's burning during the final chorus. It would connect to the witch image and it would catch attention if done well.
It’s a bit hollow imo. Sure the music video is lush and very artistic, but it’s a song contest, not a music video contest. The song is too dark for the average ESC fan, too abstract, doesn’t have a melodic hook and while the story behind the song is cool, they don’t do a very good job of communicating that idea in the song (or any idea). I sent this song to a bunch of my friends who don’t follow ESC as closely as I do and every single one told me they had no idea what it was about. It’s too soon to tell but this may be a NQ.
@@ESCTom I sent them the music video :/ Though obviously my evidence is anecdotal and I only asked a few people so this could mean nothing. A lot will depend on other songs in its semi and the staging and in current Eurovision, you can write off very few songs. Anyone can surprise with a good live performance and staging.
another reason subtitles (and translated ones) are important is so Deaf and hard of hearing Eurofans can enjoy the songs too (the BBC and maybe other broadcasters do a broadcast with a sign language interpreter). I think Slovenia is on a good track at the moment. Raiven seems like someone that will advocate for herself and not put up with any nonsense from the delegation so I have high expectations for the staging. Also Bojan from Joker Out is one of the writers/composers for this song and I love that he kept it quiet until the song was released (and still kind of is) so it doesn't take the attention off of Raiven.
I must admit I was somewhat disappointed & underwhelmed with this song, guess I expected something like the Witcher song from Poland, that kind of dark Slavonic mystery ;) This doesn't have the instant catchiness & wow-factor I was expecting. But maybe it will grow on me by May, who knows.
If this song was as good as fans pretend it would already be on top of the Odds. If Norway send Gate and Finland send Sara and they end up in the same SF as Raiven, this doesn’t stand a chance to qualify. Mark my words. The music video and her vocals are stunning but the song isn’t strong enough.
Personally, I think the song (I'm Slovenian) is not Eurovision-like enough, it lacks flow and a real lift in the song. Otherwise, I'm sure that the advantage of Raiven is her voice above all, and with a live vocal performance she will definitely be able to convince many. As for the lyrics, I think she didn't translate Veronica's story well, the lyrics are too abstract. The only part that indicates something about Veronika is the part "Jaz sem, ti si, Veronika" (I am, you are, Veronika), which means that we all can be someone who has been unjustly convicted. This part of the lyrics was contributed by Bojan from last year's Eurovision representatives Joker Out, and Raiven thought it was too cheap at first, but then she put this part in the lyrics and now it stands out well. At the end of the day, I think that considering that Raiven has already tried to represent Slovenia so many times, now that she has finally succeeded and so much is expected of her, she could have an even better song and that she will not use her opportunity to perfection.
