The Messiaen was my favorite one here. The Pontifical Trumpet really soars and cascades. Amazingly, it's only on 12 inches wind pressure, but many of its pipes are harmonic length right up to the top. The softer sections are fascinating and beautiful, with nice Hautbois and Cornet voices.

Since the 70s when I was there last, I noticed the positv organ hanging on the back wall is now gone. No big loss. But, where is the Postifical Trumpet En Chamade for the Tournemire piece??
I have never heard anyone else play the Tournemire with a big reed or chamade, since that early record of Marie Madeline Durufle playing it on the Shrine organ. I can understand how you might come to expect it. It would have been a nice tribute.
Organ Recital: Jacob Gruss Organist Jacob Gruss performs a solo concert at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Jacob placed first in the Westmorland Symphony Orchestra's Young Artist Competition, and first in the Cassel Competition sponsored by the Harrisburg AGO. Additionally, he placed second in the 2023 AGO Quimby Northeast Regional Competition.
The National Shrine houses four pipe organs, adding dignity and majesty to worship, and leading thousands in prayer and praise. Three Möller organs grace the Upper Church and a magnificent mechanical action instrument abides in the Crypt Church.
The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC. Please listen with us to the sound of the Beautiful Carillon Bells : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Abvn2rVmIjA.html
Why is the camera focused on the antiphonal organ and not the main organ in the gallery? That's where the bulk of the sound is being produced. Just seems odd. And, yes, the playing is very beauitful. This isn't my favorite organ by a long shot but Jacob Gruss is a prodigious organist and he handled its inherent harshness skillfully
Hello. Thank you for listening to the wonderful organ music performed by organist Jacob Gruss with us. At the very beginning of our video, we showed the largest Möller organ of the three that adorn the Upper Church. The magnificent mechanical instrument is located in the crypt church - this is the fourth organ of the Basilica. We enjoyed the music and sat in a way that was comfortable for us, and it didn’t seem strange to us. Sorry if this seemed strange to you... Have a wonderful day!
@@ALICE-WALKING-USA-x5l Thank you for your very kind reply. I didn't realize that you were actually sitting in the basilica. I didn't know that the crypt now has a mechanical instrument.
