The FDNY Rehabilitation and Care (RAC) Units are using 2016 Freightliner 2500 / Sprinter 4x4 Vans. They are staffed by 2 light duty firefighters that are assigned to 10-75 Doubtful Signals, 10-77, 10-76 High Rise Fires and 10-60 Signals. A 2nd RAC Unit will get assigned on the 3rd Alarm. The purposes of the RAC Units are to Replenish Electrolytes to Firefighters so they don't get dehydrated when operating at scenes. They supply decon wipes to help with carcinogens such as ash, soot, smoke and most toxins. They are to use the wipes to clean SCBA Mask, Hair, Face, Ears, Neck, Arms and Hands. On Scene Decon is very important to help remove carcinogenic compounds from the skin. Firefighters can be exposed to hundreds of deferent chemicals, gases, vapors and particulates. Some of these chemical substances are known or suspected to cause cancer. FDNY is in the process in further more doing more decon on scene which will be coming next year. RAC Units carry 5 gal cooler jugs with Ice Cold Water, Orange Gatorade Packets that can be mixed into the water and Ice Cold Towels. During Winter Season they do supply Hot Chocolate but always Ice Cold Water and Gatorade Year Round. Other things that the RAC Units carry chairs, tables, cups, pitchers, mixing paddle, spoons, Portable Heater, Misting Fan, Tent with curtains, Flares, Bleach cleaning wipes, Hand Truck, Generator, Light Tower, Hoses, Extension Cords, Safety Vests, Traffic Cones, Jumper Cables, Power Inverter, Fuels, Oils, Hydrant Wrench First Aid Kit, ABC, Flash Lights', Tablet, Phone, Radios and other misalliances stuff. RAC & RAC Manager are under command of Safety Command.
Rehab Manager is assigned on 2nd Alarms, 10-77, 10-76 and 10-60 Signals. Rehab Manager can be a Captain, Battalion Chief or a Deputy Chief with a aide light duty firefighter. The duties is to oversea operations in the Rehab Group and be the Supervisor. By using the tablet the Officer will get units put into rehab from the incident commander of a fire and make sure they go to the RAC get electrolytes, self Decon, and make sure members are reporting to EMS to get Carbon Monoxide and Oxygen Levels monitored. (SPO2 and SPCO) The Rehab Manager carries extra supplies during Extreme Heat and Extreme Cold to help replenish the RAC Units.
Each FDNY Company is assigned a 5 gal cooler which is usually filled with ice cold water. You would see them on the back of Engine Companies and usually in a compartment or on top of the Ladder and Tower Ladders. Jumping over to the EMS Side, EMS Conditions Officers during extreme heat are suppose to carry coolers with bottles of water for EMTs working in the field.

To this day I still think it is insane that fdny has a unit for anything imaginable with my department only having so many trucks we have to make the most out of what we have
@SkylerFire
@SkylerFire 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching, FDNY is a very big department and with the heavy traffic of people in and out you need that manpower and special units.
@robertschultz6922
@robertschultz6922 9 месяцев назад
That’s what happens when you have a government that is willing to actually support the department, even though if I remember right FDNY only accounts for like six percent of the budget it is still more than 95% of what other jurisdictions get. God bless the FDNY, and the firefighters/EMTs that staff them. Now my question is why does the NYPD feel that they need heavy rescues, or the ESU that does the exact same things as a fire rescue company?
@markbickelhaupt4414

@@robertschultz6922NYPD Emergency Services (Heavy Rescue) Unit does a lot more than what a FDNY Heavy Rescue. ESU deal with bomb threats, terror threats, snipers, suicide issues, drownings plus everything that FDNY goes on. 7 million population & growing, there is more than enough work to go around!

very informative series of video reports. the uk for a log time hadnt really put a lot into rehab, with the exception of the catering units of the salvation army and odd service with their own " teapot 1" more units such as the rehab cool van on merseyside an now welfare units with canteens, toilets and even showers, I re,member a time when if you needed the toilet you had to hope a neighboring premises would let you use theirs, or find a tree or some bushes :P

Thank you so much 😊 my FDNY excellent video FF friend 😊😊😊 I have always wanted to see inside the vans. I am an Advt for are Fire Cadets. We have TWO early 2000 ( Aid Rigs that got replaced) These are Ford E-450s. We carry very similar equipment on board. ( Don't have the nice stir STICK) at a big scene the Advisor and cadets work under the MSO paramedic, and help with the AIR bottle refill (special F-550) Air compressor Rig. So,so much thanks for your indepth explanation of what ALL the specialty equipment FDNY uses 😊😊😊😊

In Germany everything is different. The catering for larger operations is not subject to the fire brigade itself, here rather are supply units of the disaster protection (rapid deployment group catering). The subject of workplace hygiene has been largely ignored in Germany. In the meantime, however, it has been recognised that this is an important issue. Many fire brigades go on to purchase vehicles or trailers hygiene.

Skyler, Is the RAC considered a command post. It has green flashing lights, on the roof. I always thought that green lights indcatted a Command Post. Always keep the troops cool in the Summer & Warm in the Winter!!!👍
@SkylerFire
@SkylerFire 8 месяцев назад
The RAC is not considered a command post. It’s just a beacon green light. The field com and MCCs do have green beacons also but it’s not really for anyone to report to them.

So Skyler I am to assume that the use of Green Beacons by FDNY is not solely for the purposes of identifying a Incident Command Officer or Command Center?
@SkylerFire
@SkylerFire 9 месяцев назад
No so I know what you mean. The Mobile command center I believe has a Green beacon also but I don’t believe field com does… the command post they have a flag but never seen it used,

How do they make hot drinks in cold weather?
@SkylerFire
@SkylerFire 9 месяцев назад
They use a Large Coffee urn and then bring it in the carboy. They have a power inverter on the truck. They would make a cup at a time with the hot chocolate packets into the hot water and they have the spoons they can stir.
