FDNY Tower Ladder 35 is a 2022 Seagrave Attacker 95' Aerialscope stationed in Manhattan. Tower Ladder 35 was recently changed from a 75' Tower to a 95' Tower to give more 95' coverage in the area. Tower Ladder 35 is staffed with a Officer & 5 Firefighters (Chauffeur, Roof, OV, Can & Irons positions) FDNY has a Total of 143 Ladder Companies throughout the 5 boroughs. Out of the 143 Ladder Companies they have 69 that are rear mount straight sticks that are 100' each, 44 that are 75' mid mount tower ladders, 17 that are 95' tower ladders and 13 that are 100' tractor drawn apparatus which are also known as "hook & ladders and tillers." All Ladder companies strictly due truck work. the job of a ladder company is to search for victims, find the fire, open up to check for extension and ventilation at fires. Each FDNY Ladder Company has extrication equipment, air bags, Forcible entry equipment, Hydra Ram and other equipment. All Ladders can perform salvage duties. Some Ladder Companies may be Water / Ice Rescue Units, Chemical Protective Units, Ventilation Support Units, Soc Support. All 143 Ladders have a Inside and Outside Team. Inside Team is Officer, Irons & Can. The Outside Team is OV, Roof & Chauffeur.
The First Arriving Ladder is to always try to be Infront of the building when possible and operates on the fire floor, the chauffeur of a tower ladder most of the time stays at the pedestal and the OV firefighter in the bucket for ventilation adless life saving is first. The 2nd Ladder is arrive will be behind the 1st due ladder ad less a better positioning point is found. The 2nd Ladder company will operate on the floors above the fire checking for extension, searching for victims checking stairs and hallways and then venting. The 3rd arriving ladder is the FAST Truck and is suppose to park outside of the fire area with exceptions. The FAST Truck is "Firefighting Assist and Search Team" They are ready at the command post if a firefighter may be in distress or missing they are activated. They provide immediate assistance to any firefighters in danger and rescue them if missing, lost or trapped, a Rescue Company and Squad Company will also assist in this.
Tower Ladders due Master Stream Operations 70 and 90 feet in the air to get fire they can't get from inside a structure. They have a Stang with its stream shaper and stacked tips mounted on the tower ladder bucket. Twelve Hundred gpm flow is availiabe.
Tower Ladder 35 does on average 3,000 calls a year

Great closeup look at a tower ladder. Very impressive and a vast improvement over the old “cherry pickers.” How did they get the nickname “Cavemen?”
@SkylerFire
@SkylerFire 8 месяцев назад
Many wonder how Engine 40 and Ladder 35 have become known as "The Cavemen." During the period of 1988 to 1993, a 60 story high rise building was built over top of the firehouse forcing the companies to be relocated to a temporary firehouse located under Lincoln center in one of the garages. The firehouse had no windows and consisted of many narrow passages to get around. During this time frame, the men of house were trying to create a patch for the companies that fit the firehouse. The suggestion for "The Cavemen" was made and the rest is history. The name still suits the firehouse today because of the lack of windows our firehouse has. Being situated under a 60 story high-rise doesn't leave much room between the columns for windows. The number of windows is so low that we refer to the locker room window as "the view."

Tower Ladders are mainly used for removing victims, Master streams. Sticks are used as a regular ladder. Tillers are for tight streets

What does FDNY do for saw maintenance is it up to each house to maintain them or do they have centralized maintenance shop for small engine repairs?
@SkylerFire
@SkylerFire 8 месяцев назад
Each saw is tested at your change. 0900 and 1800 each day 365. Of something is wrong they send it to tool shops and will get a spare saw for time being.

Any particular reason the tower ladders aren't standardized in lengths? Why not just make all of them 95 ft. in length? Also, that the company has extrication tools - how many MVA's do they run and do they do more than just simple door pops? I ask because the cribbing compartment is next to nothing. You're not going to crib much of anything with a few pieces of wooden blocks.
@SkylerFire
@SkylerFire 8 месяцев назад
The length of the truck will have a large rear end swing. A lot of tight streets in NYC. All Ladders have extrication tools. If it’s a Heavy Pin a Squad and Rescue also respond. Tower Ladder 35 covers the West Side Highway I would say 45% of there calls are MVAs

Why does the truck have nozzles ?
@SkylerFire
@SkylerFire 8 месяцев назад
It’s for Winter Ops so they all carry hose and nozzles. In the event the engine can’t get to the hydrant or they arrive first they have the ability to stretch in off the hydrant. Another reason I believe is for community relations purposes, school events, they can have a line off the hydrant for the kids.
