Retired RN. Plant based 15 years. I’m Not diabetic, doesn’t run in my family gene pool as far as I know. I do enjoy the hell out of your plant based education. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hey nurse lady. I have prediabetes. Diabetes doesn't run in my family either. BECAUSE DIABETES ISN'T HEREDITARY. What kind of nurse are you that you don't know that??????????
Absolutely! If you haven't indulged in channa chat made with chickpeas, you're truly missing out on a scrumptious delight. Its tantalizing flavors and perfect blend of spices make it irresistibly delicious-once you start, you'll find it hard to stop. Trust me, it's a treat you don't want to overlook.
I found that if I soak overnight, rinse, sprout for a few days-blend with probiotics and store in fridge it is like a chickpea yogurt-makes a great salad dressing ingredient. Thank you for all this information.
My mother who is 91 and a half years old eats a puree of garbanzo with asparagus for lunch and dinner everyday because she won't eat anything else as for lunch and dinner. All her blood markers improved.
I'm Lebanese (living in Australia since a kid), and chickpeas is my middle name ☺. I would not eat canned chickpeas unless necessary (probably never). Buy the dried stuff and cook/freeze yourself, the taste is so different, minus the "can" flavour. Two food items Lebanese people eat more than anyone else on this planet are chickpeas and parsley - (tabbouleh anyone!) Thank you for putting this video out there doctor. Your time; effort, and knowledge are very much appreciated Sir. Fadi.
I am absolutely obsessed with canned chickpeas! I add them to almost any meal, sometimes as a filler, and sometimes by themselves sauteed with spices. My teenage son gets a kick out of seeing me buying 10 cans at a time when we grocery shop.😅
Perhaps it is time to buy a packet of dry chickpeas, and a pressure cooker. This will be cost effective as you will get lot more chickpeas than 10 tins. Once you have tasted the cooked beans, you will not buy tins. You can freeze the cooked beans in a poly bag, keeping it flat in the freezer.
you are simply the best doctor...specialist etc on youtube....easy going...huge information and all is spoken in very understandable terms....all i can say is thankyou and thankyou again !!!!! ontario, canada
Thank you Cyrus for all the videos you share here for us! Any information on a food group or specific food is appreciated simply because I don’t know anything and going to a plant-based diet after reading your book I feel a little lost. So, keep these videos coming!
Important mention because there are actually a bunch of beans that are toxic if you can sprouted. I one time try to sprout big red beans and ate a bowl of them and got so sick I was shaking on the floor. So while many of them beans are spreadable it is important to know the ones that or not. I’m sure Google will tell us
I love chick peas because I grew up with hummus as a staple in my family! Garbanzos are mild plus they are filling. When I think i want some kind of animal protein because I am craving something more filling, I grab Garbanzos. So satisfying! ❤️😋
This Guys has great skin, a great complexion, great skin stone, great teeth, and pretty much looks amazing, and is the result of his own diet and lifestyle
So funny posted this! My son and I were just talking about the amazing chickpea... what I grew up in California calling the garbanzo bean. I love making chickpea cookies! AND chickpea sandwich spread... mashed really well with tofu Mayo, diced dill pickles and onions, pepper, and kelp flakes.💗
Preheat oven to 350'F. Place ingredients in a Food Processor: 1 can drained chick peas, 1 can drained white beans (I've used all chickpeas and it worked) 1/2 cup organic, all peanuts peanut butter, 3 Tbs rolled oats, 1 Tbs Maple Syrup, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 10 pitted and soaked dates. Mix in plant-milk of choice if too thick. (Should resemble classic drip-cookie dough) If you want to add raisins, nuts, or chocolate chips, fold in at this point. Drop from teaspoon or tablespoon. Flatten a little and back for 15 minutes at 350'F. I like them a little crunchy, so I bake for 25 minutes. It's a very forgiving recipe, so you can play with the amounts a bit.
Cyrus do you believe that I started with your green light foods for a month now, first I started with raw fruits and salads but I missed the fiber from legumes and I started with chickpeas, lentils, beans and sweet potatoes. And they are absolutely incredible to stabilize the blood sugar. I have more energy for more time and with lentils specifically, I can be almost 12h with my blood sugar in 80/90 with no fluctuation whatsoever. I have a CGM and I can see the fluctuation in the monitor and with lentils I always have a healthy flat line in 80/90 sugar in the blood. I am diabetic type 1 since my 21 years old (2003) and before doing the diet you speak I was giving 24 units of lantus per day and between 6/8 units of humalog before every meal. And now I am giving 8 units of lantus and 1 unit of humalog at breakfast and 1 unit of humalog at lunch. The total of 10 units of insulin per day. I am super sensitive to insulin now and every move I do, the insulin works. You both saved my life. You deserve a Nobel Prize. You are saving more lives that any doctor in traditional medicine. I hope someday you will receive a prize somehow for all you are doing. I really mean it. I am the most happy person in the world now. After 20 years suffering with this inconvenience. With all my love to you both. Joana Stammen
Chickpeas lowers my blood sugar . I make hummus with it and eat it with sprouted bread. I add cooked tomatoes into hummus and it has a different flavour , you can make chickpeas and lentil stew with lots of vegetables. Tastes great.
OMG!! Butch and I are watching you on a Friday night at 11pm, living our best life!😂 When Indigo and Kylie walked in, we just died from happiness! Feel like we were there before that little nugget was an idea!!💕💕💕💕💕
I used to eat them all of the time but seemed to have gotten away from them. So I love them so good tip to start them again. What a nice little baby. I also enjoyed the video and my takeaway was this food is a superfood for diabetics. I'll buy the dry and cook them in my instapot. Thank you!
Vegan for 5 years. Tired of the protein question 6:45. I eat 4-6 cups of beans daily. On average 1 cup cooked beans gives me 15g of protein and 1g of fat. Ideal weight is 70 kgs, so 4-6 cups alone give me 60-90g of protein. I eat 18 varieties of beans, so I never get bored. I buy raw, soak overnight and cook in an instapot. In Ontario I can buy a kilo of raw pinto beans for Canadian $3.80 (Walmart) which has 170g protein. So at 2.24 ¢/gram protein (US 1.7 ¢/gram), this is the cheapest source of protein. In other words, on average, for CAD $2.24 or USD $1.7 a day I can feed myself 100g protein! Green lentils are even cheaper with more protein/cup. I love green lentils, pinto, romano, white kidney, black turtle and then chickpeas 😂
I think age definitely plays a huge role in nutrition. I am 53 and active. One can of beans is more than enough for me these days. I usually hover around 180. I tend to lean more towards starchy vegetables for energy and satiety.
I'll pass on the poor quality protein, high phosphorus, estrogenic, lower gut bacteria feeding beans. Carbs here are irrelevant because they're easily obtainable elsewhere. No big deal if a few are in a salad or something like salsa. Never staple though. Got to soak them for days. That helps lower phosphates and increases the protein quality a bit.
Were obsessed with chic peas !! We live on them over here !! ❤❤❤❤ so many ways to eat them ! Yum . Carrots , chic peas, and potatoes give us most of our calories
You could call me obsessed with chickpeas. I call it a carbohydrate addiction. It began with store bought hummus years ago, and have eaten it nearly every day since. Recently, I've realized how much money I was spending on it. I'm currently purchasing both garbanzo beans and sesame seeds in bulk (25 pounds each) , making hummus at home. Garbanzo beans also make a great substitute for Idaho (mashed) potatoes. Pass the gravy, please. I'll let the reader decide as to whether I am simply obsessed or addicted. Either way, the distributor can rely on continuing orders.
I grew up with them. We called then Chichitee. (Phonetic ish spelling). I have the best recipe. Chickpeas, tuna vinegrette dressing, green , onions tons of fresh mint and parsley lemon zest. Use lettuce as your spoon. So good.
I started chickpeas salads last year after prediabetes diagnosis, then the high carb scared me away...only finding these guys today and after all the binge scrolling i may try them again. One of my grandchildren has an allergy with these so I tend to only feel comfortable having them from a can so none go astray.
Good evening am watching from Nigeria. I have been following your advice/video and it is always well explained. We get the very Fresh Chickpeas here from the farm and its back is very Hard. I always eat it swallow the water and spite out the sharft. My question is can keep doing this. Because no matter how long it stays on fire it is still hard that's why I swallow the water
Thanks Cyrus for great information. Ive been following you both for 8 years - since I switched to wfpb eating. I recently got a cgm to see how what I eat affects me and boy when I have my chickpeas and salad for lunch my glucose spikes really high. I was eating salad first then the CP with a little quinoa but even if I leave out the quinoa it shoots up. I do not have Diabetes but I do have higher Fasting insulin in the 90's . Do you find those on wfpb diets typically run a little higher fasting insulin?
The only issues is that although spinach is high in calcium it also has lots of oxalate which if in the same meal will block calcium. Thank you so much your helping me out.
Thank you for this. Because of Carbs Totally neglected about Chick peas that i used to eat. Going to start eating. 👌 Prefer to buy 1kg packets Chick peas, soak chick peas over night, then boil and eat.
Thanks Cyrus for your effort to bring this information out of the dark. Just ordered your Mastering Diabetes. Which bulk chick peas do you order from Amazon?
