I am a super fan! I started listening to this podcast about 7 months ago, thinking it was just a healthy eating podcast. But within a few weeks, I started really eating plant focused and soon swore off all meat! I’ve never felt better in my life. I have had type one diabetes for 30 years and have had OK control. But once I went vegetarian, my blood sugars became so stable I thought I found the cure for diabetes! For a few days, I wasn’t even taking insulin for my meals-I didn’t know what was happening. But then this series on type 1 diabetes and Plant based eating made everything make sense, and validated me. Thank you so much for this podcast! It literally has changed my life. And my boyfriend, who has always said “pork runs through my blood, I’m from North Carolina” has embraced this lifestyle and says his digestion has never been better. I’m sold on plant based! I can’t wait to get my next blood panel… lol

Finally the answer is right in front of us. The MD's have not been curing us. They need to get this right and educate and train patients on how and what to eat. Send a whole food plant dietitian to your home and teach you how to shop and prepare meals. Way less expensive and cure people. The current medical industry on chronic illnesses is a joke. They are just pumping us with foreign chemicals and not curing us.

Like this site. Just found it. Been doing WFPB since last summer. I’m slowly 🙁 losing wt. but the labs must be getting better and better! Enjoying the process. Because there is a mental clarity I didn’t expect. The big black dog of depression as stated by Abe Lincoln and Winston Churchill, has morphed into a little Black and white Boston terrier with a smiling face! I’m nearly 70. Dieted yo-yo since pre puberty. Was never slender but not obese in my youth. It did finally happen. Doc said to take these meds or I won’t need to worry about retirement. The lipid panel was that bad. I was a pre diabetic animated stick of butter with hair on top. I said “No” to the drugs. I’m an old RN. I knew the answer wasn’t in pharmaceuticals. I was raised SDA by my momma, (not dad), but carnivorous. I knew the other side of that coin though, it didn’t take much research to hook well into it with the help of Utube, and probably God. I cannot believe how this way of eating has been so satisfying I don’t even desire all the SAD foods I was addicted to. Still learning. And loving it.

When i was growing up we never have fried food or using oil or never eating processed food. My father also refused to used industrial fertilizer demanded by our government. We ate grilled pork on Wednesday & meat on Saturday, the rest of the week were grilled small fish or fish stew with a lot of vegetable, & of rice. We never ate cookies.candies,bread or drink soda. Only during Christmas we can have limited cookies, candies, walnuts, apples (From U S ) . We have sugar cane field . My dad sells the 3 kinds of sugar and let us children use molasses. The diesel of sugar. Using cooking is nil in our family. My dad when eating fried food orb food sautéed in oil had stomach ache and vomiting. But I won’t use industrial fertilizer in my farms. What I'm really l with this and I just started watching it is how he differentiates between complex carbohydrates and the simple refined foods that people know as carbohydrates, The sugar and white flour and all of that. Most people in fact are completely unaware of what a whole grain is, for example, how many people eat millet in this country? It's used as bird seed lol. Same for kasha, barley, whole oat groats instead of rolled oats. It makes a huge difference and I'm really happy to see him making that initial differentiation. I think it's an important one.

I lost weight following The Mayo Clinic Diabetic Diet book written by Paul D. Hensrud and have kept most of it off due to mostly following this diet. This diet recommends whole grains and to avoid refined processed carbs as Cyrus advised to do. I tried following Cyrus's diet recommended in Reversing Diabetes and I did not lose any significant weight. I had to measure my portions of food as advised in the Mayo Clinic Diabetic Diet while primarily following a whole food plant based diet to lose weight. Found Cyrus book before finding Mayo Clinic Diabetic Diet book and have Cyrus to thank for convincing me how dangerous the keto diet is to follow as eating all the fat recommended in this diet just increases insulin resistance.
@BCSTS
@BCSTS 2 года назад
Please explain how fat increases insulin resistance.....
@michelep.7249
@michelep.7249 2 года назад
Fat increases insulin resistance, because if you eat a lot of fat the cells just take it in and don't want carbs as they already have fat for energy. If your cells took in a lot of fat for energy, they resist insulin as they don't want any more energy from carbs. Eating a lot of fatty foods can increase spikes in blood sugar if eating both fatty foods and carbs together as the cells will take in fat easily and the carbs will have a harder time getting into the cell due to insulin resistance caused by all the fatty foods one ate.

@@BCSTS she is correct, in fact a lot of doctors are now sounding the alarm on keto diets, because it can actually make you a type 2 diabetic because your body begins to lose the ability to handle insulin and even produce insulin.

@@michelep.7249 I think that's more vegan theory and propaganda than medical facts. Many formerly overFAT type 2 diabetics have slimmed down following low carb high fat diets. It's carbohydrate that sends the blood sugar up. You can eat a lot of protein and fat and it wont cause that bad blood sugar spike many get after eating lots of carbs.

Great information on oatmeal types. For past few months I've been eating old fashioned rolled oats, and reason is because of videos and articles by particular doctors, all of whom say they eat the rolled oats. I'm speaking of Dr. Esselstyn, and Dr. McDougall in particular. Also Rip Esselstyn who has the youtube channel Plant Strong. Finally, I watched a video or maybe it was an article in which blood glucose responses between steel cut oats, rolled oats, one minute, and instant were tested. The steel cut and rolled were pretty close; the steel cut was best but only by a hair. Both the steel cut and rolled were significantly better than the one minute and instant types. And of course the convenience of cooking rolled for just 3 minutes in microwave plays big factor too in my decision.

So if you're taking insulin. Or going for your A1C bloids or need to go i to hopital for any reason it minimises the pain of hzving a line put in of having blood taken. Also minimises post operative pain. In my experience. Try feedjng it to banies before their immunisations.

Finally a physician with the the best interest and facts for its patients. I had my physical several months ago, and was told by my doctor that I am pre-diabetic, and his answer was for me to start taking medication to control my blood glucose!? I am not a health expert but I didn't like his uneducated advise; so I fired him. I admit to have a sweet tooth for refined sugar based foods every once in a while, specially around the holidays; but I also have had a very well balanced highly nutritious diet all my life. The blood glucose results was a wake up call to say the least; so I stopped cold the consumption of refined sugar/carbohydrate based foods; even the complex carbohydrates based foods, because everywhere on the internet, friends with diabetes, and physicians advised that complex carbohydrates will raise your blood sugar just as bad as refined carbohydrates! Personally when my blood sugar fall below 88 I feel extremely weak, and have no energy at all. My ideal blood glucose level is between 90 and 97; I generally feel much healthier and full of energy. For weeks I have being battling with which is my ideal blood sugar level? this video however answered my suspicions, thank you!

Thank you. What is startling is how many views the high fat low carb (low fiber) diet video's have, versus this one. It shows us where the priorities are with many humans. I believe healthy carbs are healthy as long as you are not allergic to them. Been vegan 20+ years.

@@BCSTS In what way is it not?. The human body fuels on glucose, not on fat. We require healthy carbs and som fat, but not, in my opinion, 50-75% fats. Diabetes is a disease of fat toxicity, not of healthy carbohydrates. Marathoners load up on carbs, not on a cup of coconut oil.

I am still learning. Been doing this for a bit over a year and the hardest was cheese, but it is gone and I have no triggers for that. The hardest now for me is my family doesn't see how important wfpb eating is. My sons n husband are athletes and it is that constant protein issue in our discussions. They are now down to just fish but still cheese and junk foods., which irritates me but they are grown. They are all over 6 ft 4 with no health issues at the moment so discussions are hard. I had no health issues either but during pandemic just wanted to do as much as I could to fortify my immune system even with vaccine. I say all this to say keep the info flowing. I use this info as a great discussion base with my family. When I cook it is all wfpb..eat it or cook for yourself. Happy to say they are way to lazy to cook a second meal with the one in front of them smelling so good. And they eat..telling themselves, this is not all plantbased.. I say WHATEVER. While they are not 100% on board they respect my boundaries and do not try to change my mind about how I am eating.

I was about to change the channel as you were not saying anything new to me- UNTIL you started talking about potatoes. I was always told that potatoes are worse than sugar to the diabetic. I haven't eaten a white potato in forever! how bad is plant based butters? Have to put something on a potato. I also used to eat the skins for the fiber. But I've had cancer and now would peel potatoes to avoid deadly nightshades which are found in the green that you often see. When I was first told that I was diabetic I was drinking a gallon of orange just about every day. I reversed my diabetes by tweeking my diet a thousand times over the 25 years between age 30 and 55 before I ended up on medication for my blood sugar. I eat fruit which includes the fiber (including carrots) but avoid the juice. You know, since I haven't been eating white potatoes I got into the habit of sauteing vegetables to eat with my ocassional morning egg. ( was told for years that eggs were ok as long as I keep the yoke soft or runny, so disappointed when that was changed). Anyway, I eat beets almost every day. Oh, and I only use a small amount of olive oil to keep things from sticking to the pan- but not most advise against any. I don't know how to cook without something- plant based butters or olive oil. I take omega 3, but just finally let a doctor talk me into taking statins.

Awesome video! I wish I could get answers to, how to eat a plant-based diet, while following a low fiber diet for bowel obstruction prevention? I'm trying my best to eat vegan, but it is mainly white rice products, white potatoes, half bananas, zucchini, fresh made vegetable juice (mainly carrot, lemon, apple) oats, once a week & I found some no oil Italian bread. It's definitely tough, but I'm trying.

I love garnet yams. They're dark fleshed, absolutely delicious! What I like to do with them is boil them, then cut them up and put them in a pan with vegetables. Whatever I have in the house and put a little nutritional yeast and a little liquid Bragg aminos and that's breakfast. I like red potatoes as well on Yukon Gold, but I've really love the particularly garnet yams!!

I eat a low fat high carb diet, with about 50% of my calories from fresh fruit and the rest from fresh and cooked veggies, and starches (usually potatoes and rice) along with some beans and fermented foods like tamari and kimchi. In the beginning of my transition to this diet, I put my meals in chronometer for about 2 months. Now, I consume about 2700 calories a day and my omega 3 has never been lower than 100%. So, if you get enough calories you'll be fine. I've been doing this for 3 months and I've lost 5 kilos so far ☺ (though I'm not massively overweight, I had out on 15 kilos and crept over my BMI).

The only thing the doctor is wrong on is he is pushing a low-fat diet. High Fat or not worrying about the amount of fat is Keto, Carnivore, Paleo etc. We know that a high fat diet does not make a fatty liver. But a simple sugar or simple carb diet (sugary foods and drinks) is what makes a fatty liver and messes up your Pancreas and leads to insulin resistance. I'd like to ad that a Mediterranean Diet with 'lot's of meat's' is the best way to go if you suffer from low-blood sugar and if you want to be a centurian or live long. Note: You can also have pasta but the pasta has to be imported and of the highest quality (Duram Wheat Semolina)---as long as you don't do it. Moderation is key to the pasta. Baked potatos if fine. Keep thee hoagies and mom& pop high quality pizzas to a minimum and for special occasions. You need to add fat to your complex carbs to slow the absorbtion (like butter and olive oil). He is wrong about that too! My Endocrinologist is correct about that and I agree. When you add butter, olive oil or a fatty meat to your meal....it slows down the absorbtion of the whole meal. This is key!!!

Eliminating all the fat rich whole foods and eating carb rich foods is what made me insulin resistant on bp meds and feeling like crap every day. When I limited my carb intake to around 40 g per day which could include a potato etc, and increased non-processed fats to satiety, I lost weight, went off bp meds, corrected insulin resistance and felt so much better. This presenter is speaking half truth. There are published clinical trials that show that adding healthy fat to a carb dense fibre rich food actually blunts the glucose spike and therefore the insulin response. It’s recent news.

Cyrus is a genius with a bio chem PhD. I'm going to 100% take his advice. Since just not eating carbs doesn't reverse insulin resistant fat jammed cells. He makes it simple to understand and simple to do. Dr Barnard recommends the same low fat approach. I recommend that everyone find a RU-vid with Neal Barnard explaining insulin resistance. It's pure gold.
