We stayed in Quartzsite,AZ all last winter at the Long Term Visitors Area in La Posa South. You can stay there from Sept. 15 until April 15th ( 7 months ) for a total of $180. That price comes with free use of the dump station to dump your black and grey tanks , free water station to fill your RV's fresh water tanks , and dumpsters for your trash. We drove to Parker, Arizona ( 35 mile easy flat ride ) every 2 weeks to WalMart for our groceries. We enjoyed our stay in Quartzsite and we met a lot of new friends who we still stay in contact with. Quartzsite is what you make of it. JT

Thanks for that info. I'm headed there for the first time ever to boondock at the beginning of February. Planning to stay in LTVA for the reasons you stated. Nice to know there is a WalMart just 35 miles away in Parker.

I think it is great to do a RV shakedown trip. You can test your boondocking skills and not be far away from supplies.

We have stayed at Mountain Quail RV Park several times. In fact, we are here now. Yes. Do not go out of your way to stay here. We like the RV Show and travel to Walmart in Parker, AZ. Or we go to Blythe, CA. to shop. The weather here is in the 75 -40 range now. It’s fine for us as “full timers”. This park is quiet and has many things to do. No road noise at all. $460-420 per month + electric. (That’s the minimum stay. 30 days. ) So we have not a lot of in and out neighbors. The markets are good for a few quick items, but we stock up in the other two towns previously mentioned....

I'm in Tumbleweed Rv Park. Cheapest rent in town. $200/mo plus electric. Full hook ups. They also have boondocking area for $75/mo. It has a dumping station and hot showers. Love it here!

We live about 4 hours from Quartzsite, and we have visited twice and will go back again. We boondock for 5 days, then check in to Quail Run with hookups. You need to visit the quirky museums and venture out to the homesteader ruins, and have a meal at the Yacht Club. I am a life-long suburbanite, so I kinda enjoy run-down, dirty, dusty, desolate towns, so Quartzsite checks all those boxes! We are going back in 2023!

After many years of RV travel we finally made it to Quartzsite in January 2020. We stayed for only one week and had a great time. We look forward to returning. Like others have said it is an RV rite of passage. :)

Quartzsite is the RV SWAP MEET EXTRAVAGANZA. If you want it, there will be someone selling it. For many of us it is a social time to meet and converse with people you have not seen for months. If you need something for your RV there will be someone here selling and or installing what you need at a discounted price. Plus, lets not forget SOLAR. QUARTZSITE is possibly a solar sales location for anyone searching for help, equipment, or just questions.

About Kristie's Quartzite affliction: in desert areas, there is a disease called Valley Fever, exhibiting symptoms much like the flu (NOT COVID-19!) It is caused by an inhaled fungus that exists and thrives in desert sand/dirt. It causes symptoms such as you described. Also, sadly, it lives on in your system once you "host" it, and can re-occur, or cause other related illnesses. It is similar to mononucleosis (ok, I'm old...that was something everybody had in the 50s-60s). My husband, who went to school in Ft. Worth for two years had it and suffers return bouts. I went to school and lived in Tucson for 10 years and never had it. I'm sorry it found a home with Kristie.

I love it. I decided to stay last winter (after snowbirding a couple previous seasons) when threat of states closing. I stayed thru the summer. It was God-awful hot to say the least. My home on wheels - van ended up needing major repairs. I bought a used pull behind camper, gutted it and remodeled inside. I am still in Quartzsite. It has been 16 mos now lol. Am saving money to change my residency to here. Am living in a dirt cheap rv park.

Quartzsite rocks ... The wife and I have a 28' ATC toy hauler.. doesn't matter where we're heading out to our RZR rallies on the West coast from Jersey.. either going to coming back, Quartzsite is a no doubt stop for us. Gotta love the border patrol with their heat sensors.. The detected me, the wife and the two pits a half a mile away from their roadside check point. You guys are great ... keep those vids coming ...

We stayed in quartzite 5 miles outside of town! Woke up to at horrible noise outside the 5th wheel. There was a Donkey baying under the 5th wheel hangover! When I opened the door to go out to investigate the donkey came around and tried to come inside the 5th wheel. The way we got rid of the donkey was with a paper plate with salad on it! I put the plate on the ground ran to the truck and headed out quickly! The Donkey must have been someone’s pet! When You have a donkey between the truck and the 5th wheel it’s hard to move ! That was memorable!!

I plan to start spending my winters in Quartzite starting next winter (2021 - 2022) at the BLM LTVA (Long Term Visitors Area). I have already installed an 800 amp hour Battleborn lithium battery bank and Victron 3000 watt inverter/charger in my new four seasons type 35ft 5th wheel. Hoping to install 1800 watts of solar panels later this year in preparation for full time boondocking year round. I already have a pair of 3400 watt Champion duel fuel (propane and gas) generators which can be linked together for a full 50 amps of power for the ACs if needed. There is a propane bottle rack mounted in the bed of my Ford F450 pickup that holds 4 bottles of propane to run the generators and as backup propane for the furnace if needed. I carry the generators in a receiver hitch cargo rack on the back of the 5th wheel. With a 60 gallon fresh water bladder and a 30 gallon blackwater tote tank I can strap into the bed of my truck I won't have to move my rig for months at a time. I love being as off grid as possible and having redundant sources of power. I also love being outdoors and , yes, I'm a bit introverted. Not a big crowd/city person here. Always lived in very rural areas and love to hunt and fish. Soooo looking forward to retiring in the next couple of years and spending my winters in a warmer climate. Wish I was in Quartzite right now !!

We spent a good part of our winters there for the past 12 years. Our stays varied as to our tolerance for the crowds and dust. We found it a novelty more than anything. Yet we seemed drawn there. We met a lot of great people and think of it in fond terms and enjoy telling stories about it which many are fascinated by the novelty and find it a little hard to believe. We sold our fifth wheel last year, sadly 😥, because of health reasons, so we got a room at the Stagecoach Motel which had been remodeled and it was ok. Not the same as the camper. I miss it so much. The experience was very different not being in a rv area. Still had a good time but are not planning to be there in 2021. A break won’t hurt. We found QTZ to be a pretty good hub for us. We explored the surrounding areas pretty throughly. Oatman, Kingman, wickenburg, Blythe, Parker, Prescott, Yuma and Lake Havasu City and all that surrounds. Lot of things to explore. This is too long already but we have family in Phoenix and Tucson so QTZ IS NOT our prime target. Love AZ totally. We always hoped we might cross you path one day as we enjoy so much following LoLoHo! Keep on moving. ❤️🙏👍🏻🇺🇸

This is our first time here and we've been here for over 2 weeks. We paid the LTVA fee of $180. I don't think I'll do that again with so many other options in the area, but the first time I felt like I had to. One other note I'd add to your list for "likes" is there's not just the main "RV/BIG TENT" event. There are multiple shows throughout the winter that may interest people to stay within a decent radius to come and check out. I'm glad we came, we've enjoyed it very much and we'll be back, but probably not every year.

That $180.00 fee allows you to stay at any of the California or Arizona LTVAs - travel around a bit and see which one(s) you prefer.

This is our 2nd year in quartzsite! We are enjoying the lack of frozen weather! Were not much into the social butterfly thing! We do like the very low cost of full hookups here! And the available rv parts as I do all repairs myself! We are retired and have tried to retire several times before , however this time it's working! We like the lack of rat race! We put on 20,000 miles this last year so , to winter in one spot is nice for us!

I was in Quartzite two winters ago. I parked about 10 miles north of town. The sunsets were beautiful. The RV show was okay, but nothing spectacular. One interesting thing I attended was a Canadian breakfast. I’m sure there isn’t one this year with the border being closed. Another interesting thing was Nellies Bar outside of Parker. FYI the nude librarian unfortunately passed away last winter. Just thought you might want to know.

We have stayed at Quartzite it is okay for the RV show and the amateur radio meet. Per the Chamber of Commerce the RV show is going to happen this January. However we prefer to stay at Imperial Dam LTVA. Your 20 minutes from Yuma which has just about anything you need. You can also get a day pass for the Army base. (Even if you never served) Limited supplies unless you are active duty or retired from duty. The LTVA permit let's you camp at any of the LTVA's in Arizona and California. $180.00 for 7 months and you don't have to keep changing location every 2 weeks. As you stated there are a number of free areas. However you not allowed to use the dump stations, water and trash dumpster without a permit. Thanks for all the great videos 👍. Yep we are currently wintering at Imperial Dam LTVA.

Also AZ is one of a few states that will allow Off Road vehicles on the paved roads as long as they are street legal. Most states won't allow them on the road.

We did Quartsite last year for a couple of weeks with a the Newmar group. Met lots of great folks, 4-wheeled around a lot. Went to the RV show for a half day. We would go back for the people we met.

Quartzsite is a right of passage that "ALL" RV'ers must do at least once in their lifetime. It is American as could be and ONLY in America 🇺🇸 will you see such an event. Where else could you find so much (whether needed or not) in such a small location.

How is it different. Our whole 3county area has changed. It was always ignorant, but it seemed "Christian." But i discovered between politics and covid that we live in radicalville! It is so hateful now and only about 1/4 wear masks. They bully people who do. Many are vigilantes and would be happy to shoot you if they don't believe your way. We are leaving asap , but maybe it is that way everywhere? I just pray for real that it gets better.

La Posa North, LTVA, way in the back us a sign, the let's you know you are coming up on Clothing Optional area. It is a great place to camp. It is like the south of France in Nice. Nobody cares. It is really a great feeling to feel free and nobody judges. Always carry a beach towel for when you sit. Don't stare or act inappropriately and have fun. That is pretty much it. You should try it.

I live in Arizona. I would rather stick a fork in my heart than have to be in Quartzsite. Although, there is a naked Bookshop owner. The town you can't remember in California is Blyth. Quartzsite is a very popular gem locator.

Pre 2000, I flew into Quartzite,, in a small plane with a group (5 planes, 8 people) of my flying buddies, IMHO, the best way to visit. We doubled the number of planes during our stay that day and when everyone saw 5 planes landing, they came to see what it was all about. Three planes left from Mohave valley (A09) and stopped by our hanger in Havasu heights, then we went on past Lake Havasu and stopped again in Parker, then on to Quartzite. Made for a nice day trip. Stopped by the gem and mineral show while I was there. This was the only time Quartzite was the destination, as I have lived in LHC since 1975, and was the longest I have ever spent in Quartzite, every other time, I am passing through on my way to Phoenix or Tucson by car.

Have to agree with Christie. Been to Quatsite a couple of times. We prefer Imperial Dam LTVA beautiful lake and resourvour. 5 dump and 5 water stations no waiting. Cheap CA mph ping for 6 months. Yuma also has great grocery stores and restaraunts.

Quartzsite was a good destination when I first started overlanding. Testing gear, acclimating to the remoteness and quiet were two early benefits. The mobile cell service was good where I camped - about two miles north of Quartzsite on Rt 95. I plan to return to Quartzsite this year.

I like southern Alabama best. Very moderate winter. So I travel in the summer and then come home for the winter. Someday we may try Quartzsite for the experience. Maybe next year when we are returning form Washington and Oregon. Thanks for you vids. Been watching for years. Also saw you passing thru Dothan a few years ago.

You guys aren’t old enough to enjoy Quartzite. My parent went there every January with their RV until they hit 80 yrs old. They’d spend two weeks, doing nothing but drinking and socializing with friends, selling their home canned goods and homemade wind chimes. Then, they drove to Mexico for cheaper prescription drugs and dental work. You guys have a few years to go, before being that easily entertained.

We've done quartzite the last 2 years. We have solar so we don't need power. There is resources for water and sewer. Also off plumosa road it is easy and there is a great cell tower. Easy in for parking. We love quartzite. A very handy Walmart in Parker and lake havasu is not far away.

We visited the show in Quartzsite, was worth the effort so that we could say we did it. NO need to return unless there is something specific you need. We were wintering over in Mesa, AZ in our Airstream (needed a nearby airport for deployment on medical assignments). Would stay there perhaps, need to upgrade the power and water situations. Christy, there are some fungal pulmonary infections specific to the desert southwest.

We joined the Quartzsite Roadrunner Gem and Mineral Club and now we HAVE to spend our winters there, We mostly stay in a Park but the sxs rides are incredible. The rides are scenic, Parker is only 30 minutes away and Phoenix shopping 2 hours.

I am a full timer. Senior citizen disabled just living day to day... and find Q a good place to spend half Nov- half March every year. Then head back to east coast. I do not have friends and don’t do much activity ( same as when I owned a house.) the Coyote Fresh grocery has new owners and I find plenty to eat there ( including a deli- hot or cold meals) and they have their own bakery.

I take my Kayak and go fishing in the Colorado River in Ehrenburg. Great striped bass, smallies, and panfish. Nothing like smoked or pan fried fresh fish for dinner. If I have a killer day I usually have a fish fry. Though it stresses me out with the activity. Few hits of bourbon though, boda bing. I am good.

We’ve been and we’d go back. The sunrises I think are even better than the sunsets! Beautiful red skies. It’s not scenic by any means. If you have the opportunity I would do it just to do it!

I do love boondocking so I'm a fan of the Q. It's quite unique in the desert and I love the low humidity, milder winter temps, gorgeous sunsets and the stars, omg, and tons of camping. What's not to love? A Walmart would do well I think, and maybe a Sax 5th Avenue for you Kristy (lol, jk). The nudists need their places as well, not my thing either. Love the Colorado River though. Agree with you 100%. A couple weeks of doing nothing and being away from civilization is a great thing. More than that, is not so great. Going up on the river towards Havasu is more scenic and better in my opinion.

We run up from Yuma to go Geocaching around Quartzite. We also attend the Quartsfest ham radio meet in the desert. Sean, there is a nudist colony off of Interstate 8 going to San Diego near Jacumba.

you need to check out plamosa rd.5 miles nouth of town on 95 . much less dust. there's less noise and dust.

We stayed one night in Quartzsite in May 2019 on our way to Joshua Tree National Park. We stopped to see the "Hi Jolly Monument" and one night was sufficient for the "Quartzsite Experience." Thank you for your videos!

We are from Florida so we start in quartzite for 3 weeks in march then go to Zion for 3 weeks then Bryce for 3 weeks then head to California for 3 weeks then north to Yellowstone and glacier then black hills badlands then its time to leaf peep in north Carolina Tennessee south Carolina and the Florida panhandle for thanksgiving. Central Florida till February then do it again. Boondocked 163 days last year. Living the dream.

I left Quartzite a couple of weeks ago. It’s ok too far from Parker. I’d rather stay in Earp California just over the Colorado river. Now Yuma is beautiful and close to town. Happy camping, keep safe.

I'm with Christie Q is not my jam.....spent 14 days a LaPosa South and enjoyed it but we departed before the crowds arrived. We enjoyed our off road riding and the peace and quiet but not a place I would want to spend 180 days for sure! We prefer the Foothills in Yuma AZ which is about a 30 minute ride from Q. Nice video!

We live 200 miles south of Quartzite and enjoy stopping in for a week or so during January. We do take our side by side with us and run the trails. Steve and Hiromi

The History, Where Quartzsite is now located, was from 1863 to the 1880s the site of a waterhole and later a stage station, called Tyson's Wells, along the La Paz - Wikenburg Road on Tyson Wash, in what was then Yuma County, in the newly created Arizona Territory. Quartzsite is now internationally famous for it's annual Rock & Mineral shows. Quartzsite Improvement association started it all 39 years ago with the first "POW WOW" rock & gem show helping to build Quartzsite to it's status of "World Famous Rock & Gem shows." The RV stuff is just a trivial part of it all according to some. My first time there was about 35 years ago. My aunt had a place in town and we dry camped behind the Mcdonalds (in their parking lot) for $5.00 per night. Haven't been there in a few years. There was a sine on the fence across from the Mcdonalds that summed up the ambiance of the whole place. "See the 2 headed albino racoon displayed alive" What else could you say about the area.

I stayed at LaPosa South for 5 months last winter. As a full timer it was on my bucket list. Boondocking is a lot of work, your not sitting around eating Bon Bons all day lol. I would visit again but not stay as long. I met a lot of great people and had fun. 👍🏻❤️

My parents snowbird down there and I kinda like it there. I am someone that likes to be away from everyone, so it's nice for me. They started back at Rainbow Acres where a family friend owned a lot, so there was electricity available and it was far enough away from I-10 that there was silence and serenity. For food, I agree with Silly Al's and Taco Mio, but I also enjoyed Grubstake. For me, its a definite thumbs up and a good place to escape to for a week or so in late February or early March.

It's ok. If passing through -Overnight maybe - 2 nights at most. RV show - do it at least once - don't go out of your way. Your right - if you are a group you are likely to stay longer.

What do you do in Quartzsite during the winter. I'm now in Majic Circle which is a clothing optional area! WOOHOO. I'm from Charleston South Carolina and since I retired from trucking I've been wanting to come here. There's practically no traffic, unlike South Carolina and it's very quant. And Majic Circle is actually very close to Quartzsite. It isn't very dusty. Folks are very spead out and it isn't crowded. Majic Circle is $20 per week. There's water, a dump station and trash drop off.

I'm with Sean, I liked Quartzite well enough. The Roadrunner Market was decent enough and some of the restaurants were pretty decent. I enjoy walking the tents and looking at the goodies for sale. Discount Solar is always a fun toy store for guys to check out. I see you were camped out very close to the same spot, Dome Rock, I was in with friends last time I was there. As for the RTR, it could be good or bad having two poor years in a row. It will probably lessen the popularity and party atmosphere. I don't care what others do so long as it doesn't blast into my campsite. Take care.

I actually bought my 05 Fleetwood in August from a guy that lives in Quartzsite. I had never heard of the place till then. Flew out and it was 115* out there. Hottest temps I've been in. He showed us all around and it was dead of course at that time. Now I see all this stuff and I know what people are talking about.

Our first year being snow birds and while I wasn't expecting to like Quartzsite, I found it does have it's charms. Arrived at the beginning of November and are still here at Laposa South I in January. The big tent is about to begin.

Thumbs up. We've been twice to the Bluebird Wanderlodge gathering. Usually around 100 coaches show up so it is nice to see friends and make new ones. Plus the smoked meat dinner is excellent. We really miss that we won't be there this year, darn Covid.

We really gather to be with friends we hadn't seen in a while. We all travel Grand Tetons, Utah hell all over, but we love to meet up with our traveling community at this time!!! I’m here in Quartzsite now. I think the trick is not camping close to everyone else or by the roads where the ATVs are. I’m camped in a cool spot. Also lots of people are gathering and not wearing masks or social distancing. Which I think puts lots of people at risk. But I like the place now that I’m camped far away from the Maddening crowd.

We were planning to go, from Florida. The Escapees had a big get together for the last two weeks of January, Boomerville. But they suddenly canceled that. We have not been there yet. You missed a couple of attractions, you can buy a LTVA pass for $180 and camp in one of several areas from November until April, 7 months. They have access to water (I've heard warnings that the water is hard as a rock and to use water from town instead), trash containers and dump stations with not added charge. And also is is fairly close to Mexico, across from Yuma, with access to Mexican eye doctors, dentists and pharmacists. We are probably headed that way but with reduced urgency. We want to explore southern Arizona, Death Valley and Nevada when the temps aren't triple digit. It's our first year of Fulltiming and our other trips to the area were in June/July which are non-optimal. And probably will do a week or so in Qsite. Oh and the reports we hear are that the place is on the empty side right now. No Canadians for one thing.
