Hi Sarah, great work! I am 54 and have been sewing for as long as I remember, and I think you are doing great. For the bathing suit, you can just make a strap for the other shoulder, either a thin one or a gathered chunky one, it will look very interesting and solve your problem.
Love all your makes! 😍 Maybe you could add a thin strap to the strapless side of the bathing suit. That way you wouldn't have to keep pulling it up and it would still have the interesting asymmetric look
That's a great idea and it would be so simple to do, how did I not think of that myself? The disappointment must have blinded me 😂. Thank you so much for the suggestion! 😊
It's such a great fit! I thought exactly the same that it would look great with a spaghetti strap and I'm sure it would not look like a fix but rather like a design element ;)
Each of your videos and the clothes you make yourself bring me so much joy. Whenever I see you, the sun rises in my heart. Your RU-vid channel is very inspiring and magical, simply poetic, stylish, creative and warm-hearted. your fashion creations change my perspective on fashion and sustainability, style and comfort and craftsmanship. Thank you for your hard work to share it with us here on youtube. I really enjoy watching your videos, even if I speak a different language.
Hi Sarah, I love all your wonderful makes especially the beautiful dress you made for the wedding, if I was about 10 inches taller and two sizes smaller it would suit me too !! Have you considered adding a strip of silicone to the inside of your swimsuit on the side where there is no strap ? the sort you get inside strapless bras to stop them slipping , it might work . Good luck :)
Hi Sarah - I just found your channel and I'm so glad I did! I have already gotten many recommendations from you that will help. You have a terrific eye for silhouettes and fabrics that flatter you so it's so fun to see what you make. I adore the color of your swimsuit! The only idea I had was if you were to add silicone elastic on the right side - it's the same material used to keep thigh-high hosiery and many strapless bras up - maybe that would help? You may not be able to swim, but you can sure stroll casually with a cocktail....Looking forward to more videos, thank you.
Thank you for your kind words and welcome! Some silicone elastic along the inner edge of the neckline is a great idea! I was almost resigned to add an extra strap, but I'll try this first, thank you! 😊
Wonderful makes. I'm afraid there's a reason why most swimsuits have two straps ;). But it's a pitty it doesn't stay up, because it looks wonderful! Thanks for sharing your makes.
I love that you’re always taking a class or getting a new pattern to try! It’s an excellent way to enhance your skills and understanding of various techniques. Your sewing projects have been lovely. Thanks for sharing your work.

I always get super excited when I see that you've posted a new video! I always love all your beautiful makes and get so many pattern recommendations through what you share. Iv got both of those cardigan patterns on my wish list! That dress you made for the wedding is STUNNING! How nice be have something that has so much time and thought put into it that you can feel amazing in! Spring/summer are slow down sewing seasons for me as I have 3 kids out on school break, but I use it to plan future makes and purchase any needed notions or patterns for those future makes so I'm ready to go when school is back in session! I did recently make a few Items for my daughter, and made matching dress shirts as wearable toiles for my sons, now that those are done I have plans on a matching set for all 3 of them out a beautiful hand stamped cotton- gotta get cutting!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I hope you have a great summer with your family. It's great to be able to slow down and et creatively organized, and a matching set made out of hand-printed cotton for your 3 kids sounds like a great project indeed!
I love all of the clothes you made, especially the blue dress. The fit is fantastic! I would suggest shortening the neckband on the v-neck top so it doesn't stick up.
Maybe try a clear elastic/plastic/vinyl 'invisible' strap on the strapless side of swimsuit? Have seen them in notions department of local fabric store, some are pre-made straps with bra-like length-adjusting hardware. Would be great to rescue such a beautiful suit!
I really enjoy your videos and sewing process. I have a similar process, and enjoy the ideation phase and pairing sketches with swatches in my sewing idea journal. I like your pattern and fabric choices too! One idea to help the neckline of the black knit top stay up- you can thread a very thin elastic through the neck binding and adjust it to be the same size of the neckline (not gathered). This will help with recovery and keeping it the size you intended it to be. It has helped me with the same issue on some similar tops I have sewn!
Ah yes, I’ve heard of that technique for hand-knitted necklines that gape too much and I think I even have some elastic thread on hand… I’ll have to try it, thank you for the tip!
A couple of ideas to selvage the swimsuit if you're interested. 1. Attach a ring to the right side of the suit, and create a strap to go over your shoulder. 2. add a thin strap to the right side of the suit. 3. Add little triangles of fabric to the right edge of the suit and then make a thin strap to go over your shoulder. All 3 options should make the suit look "interesting" and prevent wardrobe malfunctions.
A suggestion to the loose fitting waistband on the skirt. Make a band out of elastic 1.5" wide, and attach it to the waistband from inside the skirt. Being viscose it will fit you more comfortably.
Hi Sarah, the sashiko course sounds so much fun, I’d love to do that! I’ve just started repairing a pair of favourite jeans with the sashiko technique - they’re about 20yrs old but I’ve loved them since I bought them new! They were destined for fabric recycling until I suddenly realised that using denim scraps to cover the worn holes and sewing them in place with sashiko stitching would (hopefully) look ok! 😊🤞 Really hoping it works out, but then again - nothing to lose! Would love to see what you do with your pieces - they’re so lovely! I’m still trying to master the basics!
The spring make that I'm most proud of is my Megan Nielsen Darling Ranges dress made from a floaty lyocell fabric. It has a floral print in different pastel shades on a navy background and it's such a good fit and so comfortable to wear. ☺️ However, I should've picked less slippery buttons as I have to keep checking that they haven't come undone. 😅 Thanks for another great video and 'sew' much sewing inspiration!
You could add a wide strap in a different fabric on the strapless side of the bathing costume and it could tie in a bow on the shoulder and be a design feature.
Love love love all of your makes! Especially that SOI Erin skirt . Blue, all shades is my favorite color. Love the slippers too. I wish there was some type of elastic/boning technique you could use for the swimsuit? not sure if that even makes sense. It is so lovely. Well done!!
Hello, I like your channel. Very well done 😊. For the swimsuit I have two suggestions: one is to use a clear strap to hold up the strapless side. They make these for bras... and the second Idea is to stich in a non-slip band they have on bandeaux swimsuits - which I love - and they NEVER move for me. Maybe that helps! Would be a shame to not be able to use the swim suit, it's gorgeous on you!
Beautiful video! I like the idea of adding another strap on the other side of the swimsuit … I feel like I’ve seen that somewhere but no idea where. Thanks for the inspiration ❤
Wonderful makes! The Ehola Top with the Erin Skirt looks like the perfect combination. Maybe you can add a clear elastic strap to the Swimsuit? Otherwise i hope you can recycle the fabric for something else, because the color is very beautiful on you. Your Sashiko piece is also super beautiful, maybe you can put it into a frame and hang it on the wall. I'm currently working on a backpack and in between some staples to give the brain a break :D
Thank you! I hope that I'll be able to make the bathing suit work or reuse the fabric, I love this fabric too! That's a great idea for the Sashiko project and wow, a backpack! Happy sewing!
Hi Sarah, all your garments look wonderful on you! You’ve been very productive. Do you have a straight stitch needle plate and foot? I had to buy one for my machine because it came with just the zigzag plate. The straight stitch plate really helps with the problem you spoke of about fabric getting pulled down the opening where the needle goes. It’s especially helpful for knits. Maybe you already have one with all the sewing you do. As for learning new crafts I’m a new knitter, less than a year in, and I’m knitting my first pair of socks. It’s going well and I’m really enjoying it . Thank you for sharing your makes with us 😊
Oh! My machine did come with a straight stitch plate, but I've never used it and I wasn't sure what it was for. Thank you! And for knitting, I haven't tried making socks yet, it looks like it could be either quick and satisfying or fiddly and irritating, but I'm tempted to try it soon! Happy knitting 😊
Love all your makes and you sharing the thoughtfulness in the sewing process. Your dress is stunning! Isn’t it wonderful to have a vision become a success? The organza underling was a great idea and am keeping that idea in my “tip jar.” You have inspired me to search for a class on Sashiko as over the years have watched videos and read about the process and never even thought about a class. An in-person class would be so much fun.
Thank you! I highly encourage taking a class; not only was I able to learn from en experienced teacher, but sewing is so often such a solitary activity that it was a great pleasure to embroider and chat in company!
You need to take a wedge out of the neck binding. The narrowest section of wedge must face fabric. The wedge must face neck edge. You cut it out of the neckband.
What lovely makes! Especially the blue dress, you made it look easy with the boning and interlining and the end product looks professionally made. I'm just finishing a linen dress myself, hoping for the summer to come in the UK! Looking for inspiration for a spring/summer jacket but having a hard time deciding on a fabric.
Thank you so much 😊 I too am waiting for the summer weather to come to Paris, it comes in such brief moments and I can't wait to wear my summer clothes! A spring/summer jacket would be perfect for layering and I hope you find the right fabric soon!
I love your videos, it's such a pleasure to ear you talk about your sewing! And your timing is impeccable : I had to bind-off the body of my carlie tee (which I discover in one of your previous videos, and finally decided to knit in a cotton, linen and viscose blend to suit the Marseille climate) and I so enjoyed doing it while listening to you! Thank you for your work and I look forward for your next video 🤗
Hi Sarah, just a suggestion for your bathing suit. Would you consider creating a band of a complementary colour shaped and tapered from the back around to the front strap, perhaps with swimsuit elastic included to catch any gaping. Happy sewing. Irena
You might try changing the length of the neckband depending on the stretchiness of the fabric. For example, if it's less stretchy, use 90% of the neck length; if it's more stretchy, 85%. Lifting Pins and Needles has a great technique tutorial on RU-vid related to this.
Did your bathing suit pattern include any grippy elastic on the inside of the top and maybe even up that one side seam. I wonder if there is a way to add more or different grip to make it work for you. I love your style. Beautiful feminine classic timeless but also comfortable!
Beautifully made garments! For the Ehola top I the super stretchy fabric, can you sew a little elastic into the part of the sleeve just over your shoulders? It may help it stay up. Just a few cm of a this elastic should help keep the top on your shoulders.
Lovely pieces! Agree with some of the other commenters about adding a strap to the other side of the swimsuit. It might work to add to the neckline and put a strap on the other side in a different color to achieve the asymmetrical look. I plan to make version 2 of the Coppélia Cardi this weekend. First time I’m sewing clothes in a few years and it’s exciting to do it again 😊. Thank you for sharing!
Everything looks just lovely, you're very talented! I'm not working on any sewing projects, but I've painted some rooms in my home & added new light fixtures.
Hallo Sarah if you would mirrow the strap in another colour for your bathing suit you could still wear it and it would be still interesting maybe not what you imagened but all the time you spend with sewing the bathing suit would not be waisted. Kind regards Anna
