SUMMARY
Organic canteens are growing almost as quickly as the cessation of pesticides in French municipalities. Women and men, aware of their responsibilities in terms of public health and the environment, are taking action for landscapes in transition through virtuous initiatives!
MORE INFORMATION
A fascinating investigation into several French municipalities which did not wait for the entry into force on January 1, 2017 of the Labbé law prohibiting the use of pesticides in public spaces to change their practices. This film also highlights the pioneers of organic collective catering and their partners: associations, companies, farmers, engineers, craftsmen who together contribute to improving the quality of meals in communities. The associations Générations Futures, Bio Consom'acteurs and Agir Pour l'Environnement are behind this project. A small revolution is underway in the management of green spaces.

In Versailles, Miramas, Grande-Synthe, Langouët and Laurenan, the presence of synthetic chemical pesticides in public spaces is already a thing of the past. With a constant or even lower budget, these towns and villages are able to control weeds differently and flower or cultivate previously unused areas. This ecological dynamic strengthens social ties, helps preserve the health of technicians and citizens alike and generates other projects, particularly cultural ones. Favoring perennial and endemic species, helping professionals and citizens to adopt new reflexes, encouraging businesses to innovate to better respond to new landscape practices are all actions that contribute to the overall ecological management of cities, while respecting the health of residents. 100% local and organic in collective catering, it's possible!
The bill imposing 20% of products from organic farming in collective catering was not adopted in the Senate, but that did not prevent certain municipalities from taking the lead. In Mouans-Sartoux, the municipal agricultural authority meets most of the commune's food needs. The rest is provided by local organic farms. In Langouët as in Paris, in the 2nd and 5th arrondissements, elected officials have adopted drastic measures to improve the quality of meals and are working closely with organic farmers and associations in their region. As the mayor of Barjac says, “to feed is to love”, so why “scrimp” when it comes to feeding our children? Do the populations of hospitals, prisons, schools or retirement homes not have the right to healthy, quality food? Aware of their responsibilities in terms of public health and the environment, these actors in the field do not deliver not ready-made solutions, but rather describe the steps they took to successfully complete their projects. Their experience shows that all municipalities, whatever their size and political color, can change their practices. A public utility documentary to be distributed as widely as possible.
