Just came across from Yarmouth to Bar Harbour a month ago on my motorcycle. Travelled from Alberta to NS, then Maine across upper US back to AB. 13,000 Km round trip.
Still do not understand why you don't have 5 million subscribers! Another amazing video with great information. Nova Scotia on our bucket list of places to visit someday. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, thank you so much! It means a lot to read comments like this and certainly makes all the hard work that goes into each episode worth it. Got a long way to go to 5 million subs, but clearly a lot of people enjoy our adventures! Glad you're both along for the journey, and you have a new subscriber in us, too. ❤
What an excellent presentation of the CAT! We've been on the Cat before, and will be again in '23. (This year without the truck and 5th wheel.) Anyone who is thinking of using the Cat from Maine to Nova Scotia and is having second thoughts, DON'T; you will not regret it
We used to take the Nova Scotia prince to Yarmouth every spring and fall. I loved Yarmouth. It’s like stepping back in time. The food is so good and the town is so clean and beautiful. I want to go back so bad!
The Ferry looked amazing. So beautiful. Nova Scotia is very beautiful. The food is unbelievable. This is one of my favourite places. I know a lot of people that make many return trips. Such an amazing place.🙂. Thank you for this beautiful video.❤️
I love you two Hosers, Eh! It tickles the cockles of my heart to know that you have such a great admiration for my home province! The saying is true," It takes somebody from 'away' to show just how lucky you are to be where you are from!" I love your energy and enthusiasm. Those dogs are wonderful. I believe the larger one is an Akita mix and the two smaller are dobermans. Excuse me. My moose needs to be fed.
I live in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and I want to thank you for giving some time on your video about this town. I was born here, adopted at birth, taken out of the country and moved back here in 09. Most of the videos I've watched about Nova Scotia made by travelers barely mention Yarmouth other than taking the ferry in or out of here. Cape Forchu gets mentioned even less. The part where you had Rappie Pie was interesting. I'm one of those who won't eat it. LOL I can't handle the texture. Opps. Sorry. lol Thanks for the great video of our beautiful province.
Same here and I love to see people's views of our lovely area. We have a ton of events threw out the summer months. Would love to see them experience some of these events
Awesome tour! From the cool CAT Ferry to the Rappie Pie to Lunenburg and the Lighthouse. I so would try that Rappie Pie, how delicious it sounds. But that town was just so amazing! That must've been breathtaking. I'd be there for days photographing each and every magical structure. That church was amazing as well. Loved this!!
I believe the reason the Church Point church was closed (even though it was normal hours) is because it is in need of a lot of repairs. Unfortunately the amount of repairs are too costly and it is likely going to be torn down. I grew up 20 mins from there, its very sad, and it wont be the same once it is gone. It was so cool to see it from up top with the drone footage!! Tallest wooden building in North America. Also so pleased you liked the rappie pie, thats our "turkey dinner" at every holiday or family gathering that is the meal!
It is interesting to note that before the Cat can leave Bah Hahbah it must get clearance from the Bah Hahbah Hahbah Mastah. Say that quickly three times in a row. LOL.
Phenomenal video.. You guys do a great job.. I'll be in Maine with our RV and are visiting Portland/Orchard Beach based on your video, we may extend our trip and take the CAT to NS.. great stuff. Keep up the great work and tks for your guidance.
That trip brings back great memories. Me and a buddy rode our Harleys and took the cat back from Yarmouth after riding completely around Nova Scotia. Thank you for making me smile and bringing back great trip memories.
Yet another wonderful video! That CAT ferry looked like so much fun…I looked it up on Google and found all the prices and schedules they have. Quite a history of the type of ships too. Yarmouth, N.S. looks like it’s a postcard photo! So quaint, clean, and need I say yummy looking food?! Many thanks again for always bringing me along! ❤️, Virginia
My wife and I took the cat in 2003 and spent a week in Nova Scotia. We have also been going to Bar Harbor every three years for the last 20 years. I know many of the places you have included in the Maine videos. We are in Bar Harbor now.
That was so cool! Love that you go on the bridge of the CAT. We took that ferry trip with our kids in our minivan back in June 2004. Your video brought back so many memories! Thank you!
So glad it brought back memories of your trip! The bridge of the CAT is incredibly sleek and surprising that you can control so much power with two small controls. Glad you're along for the journey! &👍 - Howard
Absolutely stunning landscape , And that fairy you took what an incredible machine , Great job as always guys thank you so much for posting looking forward to the next one take care
Another great video as usual. I actually knew Flax was a top crop, I remember learning that in school for some odd reason. Just more random facts in my head 😂. I definitely want to see all of Canada too and Nova Scotia is a great place to start. I think the CAT ferry is a great idea. Great video 👍🏼
You guys came in with the tide in. I came in on the old ferry and it was just around the time the tide was coming out... And it was like the ferry was going to run around as someone had pulled the plug in the harbour. The water was flowing out and the mud was everywhere. It is an incredible experience to see
Years ago when I lived in Maine we took the CAT over to NS too. Weather was horrible and we were sick the whole way over. Glad your trip went well. Maybe some day we’ll try again and actually try some touring around.
We spent a few days with our new friends (parents of my hubs co-worker) & they brought us around the area. Loved being in Nova Scotia. Also got to see the Bluenose II. Even their home was old!
Thank you for the great video! I am planning a trip next season to take the CAT and my RV up into Nova Scotia to explore. It is good to know you have to back your rig onto the ship, I will need to get a bit more practice in given I have a 20ft that is right-hand drive.
I love how much I always learn from your videos, but you still keep it entertaining. I feel like I blink and it's over already. As always, looking forward to the next one!
I have had a RV cross the Bay of Fundy coming out of Digby back to Maine. Loved Nova Scotia. More recently, I was touring England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales with a tour group (30) on a Tour coach. Crossing the sea over to Dublin took 3 hours. As we approached the ferry the Tour Director played the theme from "Love Boat". It was hilarious. It was the same on the return back to Wales.
Have so been looking forward to seeing this part of Canada, and I was not disappointed. The history, food, and scenery is amazing to see and hear about. You do such an amazing job describing these places - it just makes me want to jump on that ferry and pop on over. Question - why did the RV have to be driven onto the ferry backwards and the passenger cars went on frontwards? Do the passenger cars turn at the end of the ferry and come out the same direction as the RVs are pointed in? Hope you’re all well and wishing you safe travels. Enjoy!
I really hope you tap into our Acadian folks' culture. A breed apart, and a joy to be around. They are closely related to the Cajuns in your country. Been there a couple of times when some Cajuns came up. Lord, what a party! Dance till you drop, then get up and repeat as necessary!
I enjoyed your video, thanks! A couple of things to consider: they are called BAR clams, not bur clams, and second; opening the bar clam jar while out and about attracted the flies! Best enjoyed inside...
Haha, Andrew we learned AFTER the fact that our new friend was say "bar clams" instead of "bur clams." Never fear, we had a second jar of clams to enjoy, too! Glad you enjoyed the episode, and hope you'll continue on the journey with us. 👍 -Howard
It's funny to me that you are showing all of this amazing scenery and architecture and educating us on very interesting things and I can't get out of my head an image from near the beginning of the vid that I'm pretty sure was a giant cake slice shaped brownie possible with icecream even. 🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing. 💖 -Aimee
Realy nice video!! I used to live not far from Tusket. And here I thought I was the only American that liked Rappie pie the first time I tried it!! Enjoy your travels!
You two go to the best places and share such awesome places to visit and eat. I’m definitely going to go back to so many of your videos when my husband and I travel in our motorhome and go where you went to lol.. ❤️❤️
WOW I am disappointed in myself, for not having viewed your channel till today. I noticed your video title and decided to watch. I though hey it is my home province Nova Scotia so I have to watch I love watching travel channels, some are very disappointing this is not one of them it fact I can wait to watch the rest of your videos, I will need to stay up to date on your adventures. I loved the energy and passion of your video and it’s extremely informative! I am definitely a new subscriber. I was raised on Cape Breton Island. I live on the opposite coast in Victoria BC we are a military family. I have had the privilege of working for the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, in the Portland Maine office, many moons ago. Your content is better then most tourism videos, it make you want to go visit the area, thank you!! Your video is filled with beautiful historic landmarks and wonderful local businesses. I am very impressed with the extent of knowledge of events both historical and recent. I am very touch by the details you included in your video on the fire of St. John's Anglican Church in 2001. I can’t wait to see your video of my island my home Cape Breton, as well as your other videos. I am sorry I had not seen your channel till now. Better late then never, happy travels❤️
Thank you for the video. We will be bringing our RV on as well. Were you allowed to stay on the RV? I noticed the dogs could. I can't wait. Do you recommend any areas once we arrive in Canada? Thank you.
I’m from the area with the wooden church. You’re lucky you got to see it because it’s slated to be torn down. The cost for repairs are insanely high and it was deconsecrated a few years ago.
Nice just did the same crossing two week ago today with my motorcycle. I had done it once before back in 2009 on what I think was the same type of ferry, though not the same specific one.
Very cool, Ryan! Yeah, I think they used a different model of ferry before 2018 or 2019. Plus, there was a pretty long period where the ferry ran from Portland instead of Bar Harbor. Thanks for watching and hope you'll continue on the journey with us! 👍-Howard
I have lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada for 63 years. I have visited Yarmouth, and Lunenburg Twice ... when you live so close to it, you just don't care.
I know I've said this before but I love you guys so much. Some day you will have so much to tell your children about your adventures. Trust me when I say you will have children. 🙏 God hears my prayes. ❤️
So I live in Nova Scotia and have family in Yarmouth when you were at smugglers cove you were 5 minutes from my family’s farm same as with the light house
Percy, what a great area for your family to call home! We loved exploring this part of Nova Scotia, and know we will return again soon. Any top recommendations for the area that we didn't get to see on this trip? Thanks for watching, and hope you'll continue on the journey with us! 👍 -Howard
@@NewstateNomads At least from what made it into the video, you missed a lot right in Yarmouth itself. The waterfront, historic buildings (much older than most places are used to), fire fighter's museum, yarmouth county museum (also a good area to start a walking tour, many of the buildings around it are historic sites), lawrence sweeney fisheries museum, if timed right there is a big music festival that brings in people from all over the maritimes, lots of restaurants and food options, etc. And that is just off the top of my head in the town limits, outside of it are tons of things such as the acadian village in pubnico, beaches, farmers markets, wildlife trails, etc.
hello from Yarmouth !we are wonderful folks...my hubby and I go for breakfast dates and watch the Cat leave ...so as you leave look for a blue Corolla to see two of your new fans Bonnie and Grant Berry
Have a great time. I've tagged you in three posts. Not sure if you saw them. We are following your footsteps up the east coast and we loving every minute of it. Our route was planned around your trip out here. 🙂👍
As always we love following you both. Another great video. We ordered one of your decals to support you for our vehicle and after 30 days almost it hasn’t shown up ? Just a FYI. Stay well and safe
Hey guys!! Thanks so much 😊❤ I am working to get caught up on orders! Apologies it hasn't gone out yet, will drop it in the mail this week. Thanks so much for the support! Means the world to us! -Katelyn
it have two very similar fast ferry like that different names though from Trinidad to tobago in the Caribbean takes three and half hours trip on rough seas I never got see inside the control room of that ship until watching this video nice video love and blessings ❤ from T&T 🇹🇹
Kinda a day late and a dollar short here but after seeing this video going to Nova Scotia is now definitely on our go to. But was wondering how did you guys handle the money? Did you just exchange American for Canadian or did just work off debit card?
Shawn, you're going to love Nova Scotia, and great question! We try whenever possible to use credit cards with no international transaction fee (like our Amex cards or Costco Visa), and then find an ATM in the country to get the best possible exchange rate on some cash just in case. Currency exchange places are ALWAYS a bad deal compared to withdrawing local currency at an ATM. Thanks for watching and glad you're along for the journey! 👍 -Howard
Interesting, Shannon, thanks for the tip! I'm not sure of the specific reason for the status, but whether it is for the layout or the historic architecture, we're glad it got UNESCO designation! 👍 - Howard
L'Eglise Ste. Marie in Church Point is the largest wooden church in North America, and depending on who you talk to it is the largest in the world. It was built in two years by master carpenter Léo Melanson, with the assistance of 1500 parishioners. Leo Melanson could neither read nor write. The original design was for a stone church but since he was a woodworker, he changed the plans. The stained-glass windows were made in France and shipped in crates filled with molasses. The "pillars' that support the roof are in fact tree trunks. The spire was originally much higher than today. On day it was struck by lightning and caught fire, a rain cloud opened up and extinguished the flames. The ceiling was painted by an artist from Montreal who was afraid of heights. His contract allowed for a bottle of wine every morning. The Sacre Coeur, when looked at from halfway down the main aisle, appears as the head of a motorcyclist.
