Good to see a video from you. Outschool has never done well for me in the summer.

I’m still working on getting outschool off the ground. I’m testing out a new niche this summer. I am making crafting classes and social clubs. I need a break from the ESL teaching and making English resources for TPT. I am also remaking every listing in my TPT shop this summer to prep for the fall.

It's funny you mention needing a break from ESL and Tpt - I currently feel like the opposite! I added TpT to have more balance off of live classes! I hope your summer is going well!

@@KristensClassroom It’s going okay so far. My Cambly hours are slower now, so I’m working on TPT shop updates in June and July. I sell English resources. It’s a lot of work, but mostly fun. I’m realizing there’s a lot I can do to boost my sales with just my listings, so I don’t need to spend so much time on it in the future. I’m going to start fresh with planning fall Outschool classes in July and August. My fall schedule doesn’t start until the end of October. I’m travelling in Europe in September and part of October.

I love seeing what works for different teachers, with different subjects and types of classes. For me, the summer takes a bit of a nose-dive. I currently have a lot of students taking breaks, going away on holidays, and catching up on the outdoor activities that they've largely had to put on hold over the last couple of years. Most of my classes are English (creative writing, comprehension, SPaG, etc) or history based so not so much vocation or interest-based. I'm being inspired watching these videos to actually get on and try out some Flex classes that have been in the back of my mind for a while. I'm also finding that ongoing is definitely bringing in more students and income than anything else right now. Your new hair length is lovely, by the way. It really suits you!

@KristensClassroom I'm going launch my reading classes, for real this time! I gave up too soon before. This time I know it will take some trial and error to get things moving.

I actually slow my schedule down a bit in the summer. My highest months are usually September and January. I teach semester classes (12 week) and 6 week classes mostly. I teach veterinary and equine science. I love getting to create my own schedule! It is a HUGE part of what I love about Outschool! Thanks for sharing your experiences on this channel! RU-vid channel is on my list of things to do! 😎

Creating our own schedules is also my favorite thing about Outschool! :)

I’m just teaching 2 camps this summer. I have so many classes on photography and some reading groups but find my Photography 101 does the absolute best. I agree that parents really like the electives or special interest classes more in the summer. I’d really like to teach full time this coming year but am struggling to find enough learners all year for them. I wonder if adding more visual arts type classes would help. Or even offering writing or reading pods/ongoing groups would help. Love your RU-vid channel! I watch is all the time. I’d love to chat more about it! I need to get mine going more. :)

Our lives are so similar. Isn't summer exciting? My schedule is set up through summer 2024. I don't play around with setting up my schedule in advance lol

I wish I could work shifts that long, but with 3 kids (under 7), I can only teach 1-2 classes a day. I only teach ongoing classes. I should look into flex classes. I have some work into it, but want students before i out tons of worm on the frontend.

I think it's important to note that for some teachers/subjects, summer is the slow season. In general, it looks like summer is big for arts and interest-based classes, but slowest for the core academic subjects. I take about a 40% income dip in the summer as an elementary math teacher. Lots of kids taking the summer off. But it pretty predictability picks back up in September as school uear routines are established.

Yes - it definitely depends on the kind of classes you offer. These videos are purely off of my experience on the platform :)

Do you mind me asking for a 40 hour week pays working from home? I’m considering leaving in person teaching. Still have a lot of research to do but would like to see if this is a possibility for me.

I need to troubleshoot my classes on Outschool. I’m a new special educator coming from the behavior therapy world. I’m currently offering creative story telling through a multi-sensory experience incorporating the arts. My title is vague, “Follow the Leader.” I have the students take turns leading. I am trying to pinpoint what to tweak. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you for your videos!

Hello, I love your channel. Can I ask how long your camp goes for, and how many lessons are in a week? How long are the lessons? and how do I choose a price that parents will be happy to pay?

Most of my camps are M-F with 5 meetings - I did have a few requests to do camps that meet 2x per week for 2 weeks, but mostly it's one week for scheduling/ simplicity

how do you ask parents for time off ? Thats what I am unsure of with ongoing classes . Do parent want them to go on forever ?
