@DrSimiAdedeji thank you Dr. Simi. Could you kindly make a video for young girls about how to use tampons? It's a scary thing for many thinking it'll remove/tear their hymen and they lose their virginity. But also because many of them can't figure out how to use tampons and where exactly to put it, when and how to remove it, where to put the string, how to avoid toxic shock, and how to insert the tampon without pain and discomfort. I highly appreciate your help as mother of a teen girl

@btl4life220 Pads don’t work for every situation. Sports and swimming being one of them, and given that it’s summer, all girls/women should have the option to utilize tampons if that is what they desire. Periods shouldn’t stop you from enjoying or participating in certain activities, and tampons can be a huge help to that. Many girls/women also prefer using tampons over pads, and again, they should have the option of deciding for themselves what they like best without fear or shame.

My cabinet is full of skin products becuase its hard to know whats good. Even with youtubers reviewing products, its hard. Because MOST of them are paid to be positive about a product, it really sucks being a customer today becuase of that. Its very hard to tell what youtubers are paid shills due to sponsors or if they are real and genuine. ALOT of the ones that look professional and like doctors are also guilty.

I have sensitive skin, my solution has been forgoing shaving altogether. Something that kind of pissed me off was the idea of how much time women have stolen away from them. The hours we take getting ready and the hours we take cleaning and taking care of ourselves or up keeping our appearance. I’m not saying that doing those things means you are wasting your time, but for me I was doing it out of a sense of obligation. I was just doing what I was supposed to do. But why do I have to remove my body hair? Why should I waste time and water shaving in the shower, potentially opening myself up to injury or infection? My furry legs are beautiful and soft. No maintenance needed.
@hannahbanana9821
@hannahbanana9821 11 месяцев назад
I do this in a way. I don't shave my legs anymore, but every once in a while I'll use an epilator on my legs. That in between time, what does grow back I leave alone until I feel like epilating again.

It's hard for brown people to let the hair grow since we get a lot of hair growth all over our body and not just light baby hair too :(
@Aelffwynn
@Aelffwynn 11 месяцев назад
@@blusclus483 if it's physically uncomfortable for you (too warm/itchy, for example) can you trim it? I rarely shave anymore but I'll occasionally trim for comfort. I compared my body hair with some of my POC friends who also don't shave, and we had the same length/thickness of hair. So idk, I think people assume darker skin = more body hair but it's not always true.

More power to you for not worrying what others think. I have thick, dark hair and lots of it. I shave in the mornings, and in the afternoon my legs are not soft anymore. And it's torture to shave, no matter what I use the itchiness, redness, and irritation make me super uncomfortable. Plus, shaving every day is a major chore. I try to skip a day here and there, but the hair grows so fast. I wish I had as much hair on my head as I do on my head and that it would grow so fast 😂

@alexisprince8305 Thank you for sharing your experience. Waxing may improve the appearance of strawberry skin if it is due to visible hair root left behind in the follicle. However, in some individuals, the action of pulling out the hair from the root causes irritation around the hair follicle which can make them appear more prominent and therefore promote strawberry skin.

Thanks so much for this video! I developed strawberry skin on my legs around puberty. I was shamed for it and ended up being so embarrassed that I didn't wear shorts or skirts without tights for years. In my early 20s, I went to a dermatologist looking for a remedy. He dismissed me by saying "That's just your skin." When I asked if there was anything that could be done about it, he said no. I've got fairly fair skin on my legs and extremely dark hair so it's super visible. After shaving it almost looks like I haven't yet because the hair root is so dark and there are no bumps. Almost wish it didn't, but I've been saving up for laser removal anyway so I guess I'll just keep going.

@toty789ma6 HI there, while I have seen results with my KP, I'm still a long way from completely getting rid of it. I am lactose intolerant, I don't have any issues with gluten, though. I have been dairy and gluten free now for just over a month now, and it has made a big difference. I have noticed new hairs sprouting, and my red spots have been getting less visible. Unfortunately, there is no specific time frame for getting rid of KP completely. You just have to persevere and give your body a fighting chance to help the hair follicles unclog with dry skin. I would suggest watching dr eric berg keratosis pilaris videos for more information. He does an in-depth video breaking down what KP is and what you can do to fix it. I hope your journey to eradicating your skin from KP goes fast and has plenty of positive results. Just give it time and you'll do fine.

EDIT/UPDATE: It turns out the ONE thing I didn't try is the CeraVe SA smoothing creme. I still have the red spots that were already inflamed, but I am noticing that I'm not getting any MORE of them now I've been using it every other night (because I cant afford to cover both of my legs with this stuff all the time). I also use the SA smoothing cleanser from CeraVe and have now started dry brushing every other day and exfoliating in the shower after washing my hair (so the skin is nice and soaked first). I think my problem is that I have blonde hair and some of the hairs on my lower legs (and ALL of the baby hairs that I have NEVER shaved or waxed on my upper legs) just couldn't break through the skin and were becoming ingrown all the time. Original comment: I hardly ever shave or wax my legs, but I still, have heaps of "pimples" ALL OVER THEM. If you "pop" one, it actually looks like a mini ball of a cyst. I have tried salicylic acid wash, urea creams, moisturising, exfoliating... my wallet is empty and I still get these aholes everywhere. What else could it be

First time viewer, I was searching for shaving tips bc ive let my leg hair grow, thinking my skin would calm down. Now I know why I have strawberry skin and how to heal it! I regularly used hibitane type soap when shaving to prevent infection....but the residual bumps and scars bother me. I'm 71 with fair skin and dark leg hair. I used to tan at a salon regularly, which made my legs and body look great, but I think I have some residual skin aging due to exposure. I had electrolysis done on my upper lip, chin, and neck (post menopausal hair growth) and it worked beautifully. My electrolysist explained plucking and waxing always traumatizes the root of each hair, causing inflammation and scarring around the follicle = which leads to thickened skin developing at each hair follicle. Then ingrown hair occurs because thicker skin aound the follocle will block the hair's growth. I will take your advice about chemical exfoliants......and watch your video about better shaving techniques. Thank you, doctor!!! ❤️ Cheers from California.

I RARELY ever shave my legs and I have used a ton of products catered toward strawberry skin like Paula's Choice, Touch, First Aid Beauty, Soft Services, Gold Bond, and others but nothing has helped the black dots. They only helped smooth out my skin, but the spots are what has always bothered me. Laser hair removal cost a lot and I would hate to spend that much money and still have those dots.

If it is an option you’re highly considering, reach out to Laser Away. They typically always have a sale running and if it isn’t a price you’re comfortable with, tell them. You may get an even bigger discount and that happens sometimes. Also, the payment covers a set number of sessions. For example, 6 Brazilian laser hair removal sessions would be $500 is a good example of this. Good luck!

Hair removal will really help, but also try hair removal cream, throw away your razor and follow the other tips our girl here mentioned.

Same thing here - I always have those dots on my legs. On me, if they are bumpy they are either an ingrown hair/hair just about to pop through the skin or KP, but my follicles are just pink. I've tried tons of stuff and even go a long time in the winter without any hair removal, but it's just like this. I'm a bit self-conscious about it, but I'm trying to learn to be comfortable with it because this is naturally how my body is.

I had this same problem with red spots on my legs, even after going almost a whole year without shaving. It was also on other places on my body too and I had really dry skin. So I started oil cleansing before showering, and it has cleared up completely

Hello Dr. Simi! I know it's been a while for you since you've last posted, but can you do a video about women with anxiety, thyroid disorders, and vitamin deficiencies? I feel like this would really help me as well as other's understand a little more about what is happening with our bodies and learn how to improve and/or manage these things or the possible symptoms surrounding these conditions.

Thank You, Dr.!! ❤❤❤❤I've had strawberry legs for so long, I honestly thought that this was normal. You were extremely thorough and informative. According to the information and graphics, I think I suffer from clogged pores or maybe visible hair root. I will get the recommended products and hopefully will begin seeing results! The legs without the "strawberry marks" were so clear and pretty and your graphics were AMAZING!! Will be back with an update!

I kept telling people that not all Strawberry Skin condition is KP, but many don't listen, because their favourite RU-vidr said otherwise. I had KP on the back of my legs, right under my butt, when i was a child and it felt different from having my pores clogged occasionally. Those clogged pores even look different from when my hairs are growing back in on my pale legs. Very good information, Dr.

Hi Dr. Please let me know what products I should use while doing laser hair removal. While using hair laser removal, I get these reddish brownish dots on my skin that lasts for a couple of weeks. They said it has to do with immune reaction to clogged pores and it’s probably infected due to ingrown hair. But the red dots looks so bad after laser hair removal. At first it’s inflamed, red and extremely itchy, then the red dots last for a long time but no more itch. It doesnt feel bumpy, just a bunch of strawberry looking dots. Please advise which products are safe to use during laser hair removal on legs. (I only had two sessions so far) I love all your informative videos❗

Thanks so much, this was wonderful info! Two other doctors on here talked about KP being heavily linked with insulin resistance and cited some studies to back up that claim. So taking care of the actual insulin resistance would be key in eliminating the kp for good. I wonder if you could look more into that and share it with your audience?
@awetistic5295
@awetistic5295 11 месяцев назад
I've never heard about a link of KP to insulin resistance before, could you tell me which video it was? Everyone in my family has it from a very young age, I already had it as a small child. It's so confusing with all those different claims, another doctor said that Vitamin A deficiency is a cause and I got recommendations that were pretty much exact opposites of each other. So far, nothing has helped with mine.

Mines just visible hair root- thick, dark follicle/hair, pretty light skin. One day I was curious and tweezed a section of my leg and no strawberry skin, but it was time consuming and a little painful.
@evasragova8335
@evasragova8335 11 месяцев назад
I used to have visible and dark hair roots on a light skin as well. Because of this I used to hate my legs appearance. A year ago, I decided to start removing the hair completely by plucking out the hair with tweezers. I didn't mind it was time consuming and painful - I did a small area every day and eventually it stopped being painful. But that caused me ingrown hair. And I made the mistake of continuing to use the tweezers on them… Today I have ugly scabs and scars on my legs and I don't know how to get rid of them. I visited a skin doctor but it didn't help me. What would I give to have my legs looking like they did a year ago… 😢
