My formative years were in JA. I have been away for a long time. It never fails; at this time each year I feel maximum nostalgia. Merry Christmas everyone & the best for the year 2022.
Thank you for this beautiful tutorial, It was so well explained. I've never tried baking this cake before, but I have tasted it at my daughter wedding 16 years ago there in Jamaica we were introduced to it as a fruit cake for the wedding and we said oh no, we're from the United States and fruit cakes aren't the same 😁 there is a BIG difference, but after tasting it I've been wanting to bake it for myself it is an awesome cake, your tutorial has really helped. Thank you!
Miss Kayann, “ Hello! “ I have revisited this vlog this year early November 2023 & last year 2022. This is one of the best ❤ baking instructional, step by step guide.😊 Keep up all your good work.👍👍💐 I miss Jamaica my homeland 🇯🇲 😢 ( and also all the foods & fruits! )
Seasons Greetings from Toronto :) I so enjoyed watching Ms. Kayann show us her method. My most appreciated golden nugget/tip: putting the lime zest in the raw egg before adding it to batter. I never knew this. This will be my 5th year making the Jamaican Christmas cake and I also use the water bath method. I prefer to soak my fruits in Red Label and Spiced rum - pref Appleton's as I don't like the white rum. It is the one tradition now that makes me feel festive - making and gifting these cakes brings me joy. Even more so when my Jamaican friend told me last year when he tasted that batch of cakes "you are improving" LOL that means I did alright :) Thank you so much for this vlog! Merry Christmas and I'll be sure to watch more and keep Ms. Kayann's contact info for my next trip to JA.
Love 💕 Love 💕 Love 💕 this video! A very special “Hello” to Miss Kayann , your talent as a baker is much appreciated. Will be buying all ingredients as listed & baking one of my most favorite Jamaican desert. Why wait for Christmas 🎄 or a wedding to eat this fruit cake.. YUM 😋 Thanks!
Job well done 👍🏾, I’m a baker 👩🍳 myself and that’s how I do my thing... I used a little more browning to make it a little more darker, but that personal preference thou 😍💝
As soon as you started the video in high spirits I liked it immediately just good vibes and easy to follow instructions and bullet points with ingredients. Fun to watch!!! 🙏🏽
Great to watch this lady as we can learn from each other as I bake as well.Im amazed that she only use 8 eggs to the amount of ingredients - I will be trying this recipe as I've been using too many eggs!I agree not putting the rum in the mixture before baking - I pour over after the cake is baked.I notice you use browning the same as me and the same amount but only today someone commented the cake was salt - this is the first I years.Love your recipe.
My grandmother , mother used their hands to beat the cake batter , i'm 59 and i still use my hand , I do have a mixer but don't care for it , you get the love into it you also get a lighter batter also you get a better feel of the batter, the lady is very well blessed , may god open more avenues for her 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👌👌👌🇹🇹
Kayann look and sounding so young with so much experience, I am just starting to bake on a whole and loving it, I appreciates every tip I get. Thank u, i would love to do as she is doing😃. That is plenty cake with only 5 eggs and 6 cups of flour. Gonna try it out.
Yes! If you don't have the fruits soaking for months ,then you boil them , I use quarter of that sugar in order to cut down on the sweet plus the fruits are sweet and the red label wine is sweet, a few tablespoons of molasses or honey could be used and you don't miss this lots of sugar
I made this cake... it was ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS!!!!!! Thank you for sharing!!!! i did add a rum sauce dribbled over the top just to give it a little extra beauty! yummy!
Many thanks for sharing your recipe for how to make Jamaican fruit Cakes. And at a young stages I use to see my Mom soaking the ingredients for the fruit Cake into a pail for months until the night before Christmas. My Mom would decided to ask me to grease the cake can then,She would pour out the ingredients into the cake pan and place them into the oven to bake. When I mom use to lived in Florida she use to mail me fruit cake for Christmas now I of to do without it for Christmas but that's okay.Merry Christmas to everyone in Jamaica be safe stay Bless.
Thank you so much for sharing. i do appreciate this, my only downfall is that i will be doing it on christmas day. But I guess we live and learn each day. So next year, will do it 10 days before. Thanks to Kayan.and yourself. Have a fab Christmas and New Year.x
Lots of cakes for the Christmas celebration...I am a bit confused as to which recipe to follow but I am going to followed Miss Kayann's recipe so as to get that authentic jamaican taste...big up uself Mr Gayle.. I know a whole lots of Gayle in Westmoreland you might related to them...Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you guys when it's comes
Thank you for this receipt. Easy to follow. I've been looking at different receipts and decided to use your receipt. I have notice other people use half flour and half breadcrumbs. What would you recommend - is best for Cakes ? Just flour or flour combined with breadcrumbs 🤔 Would love your opinion 💞
Hi Kelvin.. Here's Kayann's reponse: "Bread crumbs is a choice it is not really a necessity bread crumbs would also make it a bit heavier and some people like it that way"
Is the recipe in the description box the correct measurements? Caz in the video she stated different measurements verbally... Also, does she sell them immediately after spraying with alcohol or does she keep them for a period and continuously feed them with alcohol before they're ready for sale?
Hi Shortii, It's updated now. Her full recipe. The same as in the video. Thanks for asking. And yes, you spray with rum and wine right after and continue to do every few days until you are ready to eat/ sell?
@@myislandjamaica thank you🙏🏽... Also i appreciate how you take the time out to reply to as much comments as u can, many youtubers don't reply to anything at all
Season's Greetings🎁🌲My Island Jamaica. Her explaining of the recipe is clear and understandable. Bwoy, Ms.K mek mi really want a slice of her Black Fruit Cake.(di rum and di red label wine had nothing to do with it😋) Great baking Ms.K. Thanx..❤
Jesus is supreme Jesus has the power to grant eternal life. Hallelujah to Christ Jesus Trinity : God (Yahweh) + His Word (Jesus) + His Spirit........blessed.........
Some Grenadians make the best Wedding, and black cake. Smooth consistency and tasting very delicious. But they refused to give out their extra tips. All the traditional way turns out to be the same. Even Grace recipe can't surpass them.
This is the real deal. Just like how my mom used to make it! Over the years we were exposed to different friend’s versions and changed it up sometimes. One year Lina gave us a taste of hers which was delicious. Lina ground out her fruits. I like it with the taste of rum but not rum soaked. I now go lighter cake but the port is a must. One year I’m going to try a little whiskey. My poor mom, she loved the cherries and the peel, but we wouldn’t allow her to add those LOL.
I do not use alcohol. I usually sosk fruits in prune juice. Any suggestions on what else can i soak fruits in. Could it stay without spoiling in a pan on my counter.
Great job with that cake... What is the name of the butter used? Still can't access the recipe to see the ingredients...would like to order but I must know the ingredients for Allergy reasons. Thank u kindly.
