Personally, i didn't mind Ariel looking different and enjoyed the movie anyway, but i get the people who had a negative reaction. Your analysis helped my understand them even more

The colour change didn't realy bother me that much. I didn't like this movie because they changed certain things that took me out of the movie, just small things but they stuck with me 1) they changed the sisters names and i only know becaues when they called for one of the sister's (i think it was coral or something like that) it didn't start with the letter A as all of them had that as their initial 2) they called Ariel's singing to Eric a sirens spell which makes it sound like she cast a love spell on him the way they talk about it 3) they made her sing more and the whole point with that is that when she sings part of your world it's this big thing this is everything she is giving up but in this movie it's like they maker her sing almost every song voice or no 2.5) when Sebastian sings his song Ariel is meant to be to in her own world and trying to get away however in this movie she is singing along and it makes no sence 3) they changed it to that Ariel doesnt remember the contract oh an 4) they made the characters rap, that one always bothers me, they don't always need to rap.

Sorry for the late reply; I was stressed and busy with my internship, and I constructed part of a reply to you, which didn't save! So I was unmotivated to repeat, plus feeling tired by everything else. But I appreciate how much you wrote, and it was interesting reading about your thoughts! Sometimes I want to hear thoughts from people, and I don't receive much, so thanks. 1) The change to the sisters also felt unnecessary to me, yes. Both the appearance and the names imo. But it seems like what they tried to do is to make their own new thing, which doesn't work if you have too many elements that are similar to the original, as I mentioned. So yeah, pulling you out of the movie for sure. 2) What part of the movie was this, again? I might want some more context. It's nice that you noticed such a detail. On the good side, she could be seen as enchanting to him. 3) Good point! I like how you thought about such symbolism. And yep, pretty odd that she's singing after losing her voice. Even though it's like internally singing, it's like she didn't really give it up. 3.5) I personally didn't find it so problematic, since I saw it as her seeing some allure of the sea, and reason to just stay with what 's familiar down there. But ultimately, she chooses the surface world. But it's true that the scene can also show that she doesn't have as much passion to see the human world compared to cartoon Ariel. 4) I was trying to make sense of them changing that too. It could be because Ariel does things like telling Eric her name without saying a word. Like, she can be smart enough to tell him something without words. If she knew about the contract, she could reveal it to him, so I could see how it might be more coherent to just make her forget about it. 5) Yeah, to make it hip for the kids XD. Can be seen as pretty cringe, especially compared to the music style in the original cartoon.

Only just seen your reply, thankyou for responding and the siren line is repeated a couple of times through the movie, hard to pinpoint the exact moment I think it was mentioned by either Ursula or sebastian or even both, but like I said they were just minor things like if I hadn't grown up with the og movie I dont think they would have bothered me (other than the rapping)
