Just for context, he wrote and recorded this at the height of his drug problems, so probably genuinely didn't think he was gonna be around for much longer. Very glad he managed to come out the other end!

This is the reason why em has so many mega loyal fans, he’s knows how to entertain be funny and be very real at the same time.

With his drug addiction we could have lost him so many times. This song probably had so many levels too it.

Em changed his habits and priorities to put his family before his career. He barely tours at all and he treats the studio like a literal 9-5. He takes a lunch every day at lunchtime and religiously “clocks out” at 5 to go home, no matter what is going on.

This and Mockingbird are my favorite Eminem songs, because they're real. No "thug life" bullcrap, no "I'm so gangstah" posturing, no beefing, no drama, no "sex, drugs, and fame" nonsense, no stage persona or "performance art." Just real life. Throw the curtain back and shine a light on what's really going on.

When you have kids this song hits harder!

It's hard being a truck driver and hearing this song, I can't get a local job yet.... we are severely under paid, and want to give my kids what I never had... like the ability to do athletics at school or learn how to box, and have a father that trys giving everything under the sun... safe to say my kids will not know what poverty is or have to turn to the hood for a figure

I loved watching this with you guys. I grew up on Eminem as a troubled suburb white kid, he was everything to me. I hadn’t heard this song in a long time, and now as an adult with a young family this brought me to tears.

As a Swede, I just thought it was so cool that he used our country in this song when it came out back in the day, given that most Americans (especially in the rap world) really don't know much about us.

No it's a dream sequence he's playing out and to answer what you said in the beginning no matter how you feel about the other parent the love you have for your children is unexplainable it's legit the purest love even if you hate the other parent. Yeah Eminem has always been completely honest in his rapids, Kim cut her wrists in front of Halie, and I can't imagine having to have dreams like this, his drug addiction was peaking at this at this point. A lot of people think this song is about him killing himself but I don't think that's true. Anyone else notice that at 12:00 when he says he puts a gun to Shady's head and pops it, his hair turns back to dark brown but the reflection in the mirror that he punches is still blonde? In other words, he is killing the slim shady persona here and being a good person and father going forward. That is what the entire song is about. I bet this was also when he stopped doing drugs and drinking. He even says early in the video that shady is "rock-a-bye baby".

And that's exactly why Em has the fan base that he does. Right from the start he's let us in and been extremely transparent, maybe sometimes to a fault. 💯🐐👑

A wise man once said, "No other success can compensate for failure in the home." Em probably knows that better than most and it's reflected in the powerfulness in his pieces such as this.

This was at the point where we could’ve lost Marshall. Man I’ve been going back listening to his old songs and hearing and seeing his growth as a person and I’m so glad he never did pull that trigger.

I don’t have a good relationship with my dad now. When I was a child he traveled a lot for work. We spent some time when he got back during the weekends. However I don’t think it was ever enough time to build a good relationship with him. I understand why he had to travel, which was to provide for his family, but I think I would have preferred him being home more.

What stands out in these lyrics is he is genuine in fearing for his life. He really thinks he will die soon. Why? I dunno. I'm not him but nobody writes like this unless they feel this is their last chance to reach out to their kids.

This is probably one of my top favourite Eminem songs. I feel like you guys might enjoy listening from the slim shady LP to the Eminiem show in order if you wanna get to understand Eminem. That’s the point where he pretty much just put his life on cd. You almost feel like you know him from listening to that stage of his career. I mean hell he still puts his current issues in his music, but he’s more about the word play these days.

Yea my dad was gone all the time. We were able to go on big trips growing up but him being gone literally everyday not coming to anything of ours cause of work it ripped our family apart. I’m 31 and still just wish I had my dad back then cause I am just now learning who he is and building a relationship with him ya kno? So yea for me personally I would give all the big trips and things back for time wit my dad growing up for sure.
