Bone Thugs and Cypress Hill were metal af in terms of imagery. They use depictions of death on their early records. The 90s rules every decade in terms of best music in general. Whenever I run out of riff ideas, I’ll learn a bass line from the East 99 Eternal album and metalify it. Great idea for a video do more genres 🤘🏼

Dude. Eternal is literally one of my favorite records of all time. I lived in a scary fkn neighborhood in Detroit suburbs when I was young so that record was almost like a horror record when you're like 8 lol.

Hey Rob, I'm a Chimaira fan since "Pass out". "The impossibilty of Reason" is imo still one the very best Metal album of the 2000's . Listened it and played on guitar so many times! Back in the day, I've been blown away by your insanely powerful guitar riffs in songs like Cleansation, Power Trip, Pure Hatred, Eyes of a Criminal, Overlooked or Army of Me. TIOR has a real badass sound. Thanks to the legend Colin Richardson. This guy has made the Metal sound of the 90's (Burn my Eyes, Demanufacture...). It must have been amazing to work with ! Even for just mixing. His name on a cover was for sure a real quality label, and a promise of a true powerful sound without comparison with others. I saw you guys Live in 2004 in Paris - Elysée Montmartre (Roadrage Tour with Spineshank and Ill Nino). It was awesome ! Thanks. My Top 5 Gangsta Rap : - Ice Cube : Death Certificate - Ice-T : Original Gangster - Cypress Hill : III Temples of Boom - ICP : The Great Milenko - Public Enemy : Greatest Misses

Agree with all those albums bro. Definitely a guilty pleasure of mine! 2001 and that era of Eminem had so much air time for me back in the day. Another album I couldn’t get enough of is Wu Tang Clan - 36 Chambers.

Bow down when I come to your town. 90s and early 2000s hiphop was as hard as anything. I used to love watching my mirrors vibrate in my car from the speaker system. Lol. I only had one RF 10" and a 800 watt amp, fucker hit HARD! Great choices, all spun way too many times back in the days. 🤘

I'm not going lie I'm enjoying this video. As a child I grew up in the high desert of L.A. in a lower income family. So as some may imagine I discovered Hip Hop before ever becoming a Metal Head (ntm before even having access to Heavy Metal) as I have been since the the early 1990s. Anyway, I admittedly liked Ice Cube, NWA, Dre, some of Eminem's work, Tupac and Biggie Smalls. The one group that I always loved is none other than NAUGHTY BY NATURE. Exceptional skills, rhythmically, lyrically their vocal lines are extremely intricate while still capturing your imagination. I think of their vocal delivery to that of Van Halen on guitar. This is just IMHO but they're superb artist/musicians. Great video bro, definitely threw me a curve ball. In closing I'll acknowledge how hard a lot of Hip Hop hits us as a listener. The beats. The rhythmic style of vocals coicnide heavily with Metal. Listening very carefully to great vocalist in Death Metal in particular then listening 🎧 to great Hip Hop there are definite similarities in their flow. That's all I got to say my good man. Have a great day!

Both Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope from ICP are still alive and kickin. I love me some old school gangster rap and think it’s awesome you decided to do this video dude. My top 5 in no particular order would have to be: Bone Thugs N Harmony - E1999 The Art Of War Creepin on Ah come Up (can’t pick just 1) Kottonmouth Kings - Rollin’ Stoned & High Society (again, couldn’t pick 1) 2Pac - All Eyez On Me & Potluck - Pipe Dreams are my honorable mentions and it’s hard to argue with the Chronic 2001!

Lots to comment on here, Rob! I love this video! Looks like you and I like the same hip hop for sure. All of these I loved in addition to metal records of course. I will go to bat for that second Westside Connection album, Terrorist Threat. Front to back just a solid AF hardcore hip hop record. Give it another listen if you are in the mood. It’s just as good as Bow Down….just in a different way.

Very unexpected but cool video! I agree with most of your picks, especially the Westside and Eminem. Just a few of my other favorites are Ice Cube’s “The Predator”, it’s a rare flawless rap album imo I listen to it straight through! Also “Music to be Murdered By” A and B are INCREDIBLE albums from Eminem. Not as dark as his earlier stuff, but the beats (he teamed up with Dre again) and the word play are at all time levels.

Growing up in the late 90’s early 2000’s in SoCal hip hop and rap was everywhere you couldn’t escape it. I would listen 93.5 kday a lot. Then when I was around 13 I heard Testament Trial by fire on a mix cd and duuuuude I didn’t know what was going on but I loved it and understood it. Then I became a speed/thrash 80’s metal elitist 😂. I listen to it all now. If it sounds good it’s in my rotation from 90’s rap to Jedi mind tricks to Judas Priest to thy art is murder.

Suffocation, internal bleeding Pyrexia those guys were all big into hip hop it's how I got into onyx, gravediggaz and wu tang clan actually as those guys kept mentioning them, Also I'm not sure if you ever met him but because he was connected to the holy terror crew out of Cleveland mike cheese he was big into gangster rap, to the extent of he called his band "the infamous" gehenna, both as a way of genius level trolling mayhem etc but also as a nod to mob deep.

I could never get into hip hop or rap in my teens. Mostly because it was all just break dance music to me. But when Anthrax did bring the noise with public enemy I just loved that. And after that Stuck mojo did it for me with not promised tomorrow. And brought there first album snappin' necks. Run DMC was ok I guess. Beastie boys now yes I love them. But I don't get it why hip hop music as to use drugs and them pimping it thing. But when I was big into infectious groove I found an album by Funky doobiest and I thought it was funky metal just like infectious groove and the album turned not to be. But still a good album. Rob do you remember the movie judgement night ? and if so do do you remember bands like faith no more did a song with boo ya tribe and biohazard with onxy. Well I bought the sound track to that movie and love it. Apart from that hip hop or any music like that doesn't do a thing for me.

Pretty sure the ICP album was called The Great Milenko. And there was a title track as well. I used to love and have all of those except 50 cent, just never got into it. Bums me out, all my CDs got stolen when I was in Iraq. And that was right around the time everything turned to streaming so I never really recovered any of my collection. I had so much good stuff including an autographed copy of Countdown to Extinction and an off the console bounce of “Almost Honest”… some of it was stolen, some lost to moving from place to place… 🤦‍♂️.
