When Mama made Ambrosia, she would cut up some apples into bitesized chunks...no wait, that's Waldorf Salad. Ambrosia would have orange slices, coconut flakes, grapes, blueberries, pineapple wedges, watermelon, honeydew melon, and cantaloupe scooped into balls, and maybe a few pecans or walnuts, all packed into a carved-out watermelon. This song, however, is the quintessential 60s summer song, and reflected well the partying night moves and tudes. Hooby-shooby, hip-flip city. There are also some great youtube videos for the song worth seeing. Thanks again. Happy birthweek!

The singer is John B. Sabastian. Look into all their stuff. It was so good to hear songs like this coming over my mono transistor radio that I would walk around the city listening to. In the 60's that was the equivalent to today's streaming on a smart phone, but it was total freedom to me to be away from home and hear current music everywhere. Intoxocating. Another song that comes back to me from that time is "Green Onions" by Booker T. and the M.G.'s. Check that out. I'm 66 years old and I can still remember where I was when I heard this for the first time. I'm walking around Tacoma, Washington in the summer; I'm 10 yeas old, and this music was hitting me so hard I climbed up into a cherry tree in front of a junior high and just laid up there and listened to the music in the sun and nothing else. How can that memory be as clear or clearer than what I had for dinner last night? I think that's the power of music. Love you two; stay on your path.

That was a good laugh as Lexi went into the ambrosia explanation, and Brad looked at her like she had three eyes or something. I still have my Spoonful albums from the 60's - my high school days. This was like a lot of early songs in that radio wanted them short so they could get in more commercials and talking. Sometimes long songs wouldn't be played so artists would make a cut for radio, and a longer for records.

Ambrosia for the Ancient Greeks was what they called "the food (and nectar/drink) of the gods", but in modern times, the food that Lex is talking about refers to 1 or more dishes that consist of various layers of fresh citrus, sugar, and coconut. However, yes Brad, it was also a very awesome progressive/soft rock, jazz fusion group, and a band you MUST put on your list of reactions to do. Some of their best soft rock (blue-eyed soul) songs are How Much I Feel, Biggest Part Of Me, You're The Only Woman and Holdin' On To Yesterday. However, some of their great jazz fusion songs are Nice, Nice Very Nice and Time Waits for No One.

Ambrosia is like a nut and fruit cocktail mix up with cool whip and sour cream. Really good.

Ambrosia is a fruit salad (often canned or poached, but fresh works too, and does NOT have celery in it. Waldorf Salad has Apples, Celery,Grapes/Raisins and Walnuts lightly coated in Mayonnaise though, if that is what you were thinking of.); the dressing being comprised of Sour Cream and Sugar. Most people use whipped cream because that's what Sour Cream and Sugar mixed together tastes like, so they assume it's whipped cream and use whipped cream. Dip a fresh Strawberry in Sour Cream, then Brown Sugar...try it.

The correlate between tuna salad and ambrosia is you'd see them both on the same table at pot lucks and picnics back in the day.

I want some "Ambrosia" now- Ambrosia is an American variety of fruit salad originating in the Southern United States. Most ambrosia recipes contain canned or fresh pineapple, canned mandarin orange slices or fresh orange sections, miniature marshmallows, and coconut.

Lex, I just love how your comments usually offer a unique perspective that I might never have considered myself. But then when I think about them, I'm like, "Yeah I can totally see that!" 😎 Keep on rocking guys and congratulations on your pregnancy! Your child is lucky to have such cool parents, who will teach him to be open-minded and develop an appreciation for all kinds of great music. 🔥🎧😎 BTW, here's my recipe for Ambrosia Salad: 1 can (15 oz.) mandarin oranges, drained 1 can (8 oz.) pineapple tidbits, drained 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut (toasted or plan) 1 cup sour cream or whipped cream (or a combination of the two) 1 cup miniature marshmallows 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, halved (optional) 1/4 cup slivered almonds (optional) Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and mix together, then cover and refrigerate for at least an hour for best results. It's easy to make, but is so good! Enjoy!

Great old song from 1966, I think. Another "Classic Rock "standard. John Sabastian and The Lovin' Spoonful. This takes me back to when I was about ten years old. This was on the radio all the time. Great memories from a simpler time.

Do You Believe in Magic?, Daydream are my suggestions for reactions by the Lovin' Spoonful. Nice reaction. Ambrosia is a whipped fruit salad dessert AND a band. Biggest Part of Me and You're the Only Woman are suggestions by them , and I think you'll love the blue-eyed soul vibes. Peace

Ambrosia: Fruit salad with a combined whipped cream & sour cream "dressing", nuts are optional, but I believe marshmallows are mandatory.
