he still does this live which is incredible since he's in his late 70s. it's kind of like old scat singing. another great micky deep track is "zor and zam",a viet nam war era song that's still relevant today.

As kid 6 to 9 or so the monkees tv show was on I was singing the song ..great TV show as young bean sprout

Don't Call on Me is another unexpected style from the Monkees. They had quite a cross-genre range.

This is New Orleans jazz and the instrument you called squeaky was a trumpet playing in the upper register. Try listening to some Louis Armstrong, it depends on the song but he does that sort of thing. In fact, here's an old Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington piece, it starts with the Duke on piano and when Armstrong comes in he is first playing more mello, but you get some of the high stuff towards the end. This is some serious lyrics and boogie. Micky is the only Monkee to appear here - but he nails it. "I don't believe she meant it when she told me to forget it." Yep, it's the girl causing all this. Good thing he realizes he's floating on down to New Orleans, waving to the folks onshore, on his way to a better life. The happiest song about attempted sucide to ever exist.
