One thing I noticed almost instantly on my first evertune is that the saddles move as you go up or down through zone 2. To nail it on the sweet spot on the edge of 2 and 3 I pull the string up and down and observe the saddle movement as I tighten the tuner. I bring it to the point that the saddle almost doesn't move at all and bam, I'm right where I need to be to be in tune and do string bends. If this makes sense to you, then you're welcome for the pro tip. 😛

11:42 all tuned up and ready to rock! Thanks for making this video Rob. I've always been nervous about doing anything with my evertune outside of going from E to drop D with the key, but this gives me the confidence to do a string and tuning change to a lower register. Now I finally understand the relation of the saddles on the evertune and how to adjust them for intonation. With this there's no need for any trust rod adjustment.

If you go back and forth from standard to drop and back, set it up for drop and then when you play standard just tune up into zone 3 until you are in standard. The evertune isn't active on the low E but you don't need your Allen key to go back and forth. Olla had a video demonstrating it.

This video is so helpful I'm picking up a Solar with an evertune soon and even after watching Ola's videos I was a little lost still. One thing I would point out is that when you were working on the intonation for the low string. Evertune does suggest using their calculator on their website to determine if the standard saddled will work for your chosen gauge of string and desired tuning, lower tunings with thicker gauges can fall out of the "sweet spot" and they suggest possibly swapping the saddle out for one of their other versions designed for lower tunings. The nut could also be a factor if the new gauge of string is significantly thicker than the one the nut is filed to. Anyway this vid earned you a subscribe! Thanks

Hey thanks for tuning in and welcome aboard! I agree with the information you've shared, and I only learned about the tension calculator after the fact. So you're exactly right, and that's what I'm suggesting to new Evertune users who plan on using heavier gauges and lower tunings. 🎸

The tuning in Zone 2 changes when you change strings because the Evertune is tuned to a specific tension, not a specific note. The same tension on two different gauge strings will produce different notes. Thanks for the video! If you use your evertune like Rob in this video, you lose the benefit of always "In Tune" and it would be just as stable as any other hardtail bridge like hipshot or similar. If you want to really take advantage of all the attributes of the evertune, use your 6 strings in zone 2 and it would make sense there.
@RobArnoldWorld
@RobArnoldWorld 2 года назад
Thanks César! I'm not exactly sure how I'd make a comparison video like you mentioned, but I will say that I disagree with @Butcher _ 03 . In my experience the Evertune functions as expected when I'm as close to zone three as possible. Perhaps the butcher could state that "in his experience, he's found etc..." rather than presenting things so definitively.
@butcher_0392
@butcher_0392 2 года назад
@@RobArnoldWorld Hi Rob maybe you didn't understand what I meant. * What I mean is that if you set your evertune to bending and vibrato, the evertune would have the same stability as a normal hardtail hipshot, since when you hit the strings with a strong picking attack, the notes would be sharp as usual, which you can then check the tuning on each string and you will notice that it is in tune, but when playing it would not always be in tune because the strings bend when you attack it fiercely. I noticed that with my guitars, and that is what the creators of Evertune themselves say, that in zone 2 it will always be in tune no matter how much bending or strong picking attack you have, but while you adjust the bridge so that it is in vibrato bending mode, it is not like that.
@RobArnoldWorld
@RobArnoldWorld 2 года назад
@@butcher_0392 Ok I can't argue with that and thanks for the explanation! But even with the strings sharpening slightly during the specific scenario we're discussing, I still think the overall tuning would be more precise than a hardtail. But everyone has a right to their own opinion! Btw for the record, I know I sound like a hardline Evertune defender, but I have no affiliation with them, and I'm not endorsed by them in any way. I just think it's a cool device that serves a purpose well, in certain situations!🎸

@@butcher_0392 I get what your saying and I think if you’re recording rhythms for example, putting it deep in zone two would be great. For everyday jamming though the bend stop is where it’s at for me! It behaves just like a normal bridge in terms of vibrato but stays in perfect tune no matter how hard I palm mute or bend. It’s so nice not to have to constantly stop and tune. Just my thoughts. Do you have an evertune guitar? Is this not the case for you?
@butcher_0392
@butcher_0392 2 года назад
@@Namelessforever_ Yes of course that's what I mean, that if you use the evertune in zone 2 that's where you really take advantage of all its benefits. But if instead you set it for bending and vibrato on all 6 strings, it will work exactly like a hipshot hardtail bridge, and it would be a waste of money. I have noticed that most buy it or use it to leave it in bending mode and it doesn't make sense. If your picking attack is strong with evertune set that way the notes will sound sharp anyway, like a common hardtail bridge, and the guitar won't be in tune when you're playing, it will stay in tune when you recheck string by string with your tuner. , but you will lose the whole purpose of the design and what it was created for.

100% Rob has a distinctive “sound.” And that is one of the things that makes a good guitarist a GREAT guitarist. Just how a singer with a really noticeable voice stands out. I remember the first time I listened to the “Undead” album by Six Feet Under. On several of those tracks, I was like, “Yo, this sounds like something Rob Arnold would write.” So I looked up the album info, and sure enough, “All music written by Rob Arnold.” It’s not even the same genre as Chimaira , Elite, etc., but I could still tell it was Robby on my first listen. I honestly don’t think you could say that about a lot of guitarists nowadays.

Thanks Rob! You don’t find that setting the tuning in a non-playing position (such as on its back) leads to it being slightly sharp due to the temporary neck relief?
@RobArnoldWorld
@RobArnoldWorld 11 месяцев назад
Nope! No issues with that. I suppose doing the final touches in the playing position would ensure the utmost accuracy, but honestly I feel the difference is negligible.

What would you say about neck through construction compared to bolt on necks? If the neck through is Indonesian and the bolt on is Korean. Ltd models
@RobArnoldWorld
@RobArnoldWorld Год назад
I honestly don't really have an opinion on that. Most of my guitars are neck through, but I have no issues with bolt on's either, of which I have a couple. And as far as origin of manufacture, I have many Korean made guitars, and just one or two Indonesian. Gun to my head, I guess I'd choose Korean made. But I don't have a strong opinion on that either. I'm slightly confused by your question but I would say yes, you can set it up however you like. However I believe with super low tunings, that typically require higher gauge strings, you may need to switch over to Evertunes high tension saddles. There's a tension calculator on their website, and that should help you determine if you'll be good as is, or if you'll need to swap out your saddles.

Hey, Rob. I haven’t watched or commented in a while. Glad to see you’re still doing these videos. I must admit, I’m slightly intimidated by the evertune bridge. I guess I’m like an old fart who doesn’t know how to use a computer. Lol Chimaira is still one of my favourite bands of all time! P.s. Why don’t more string companies make their six packs with a wound third? I’m sure it’s more common in higher gauge. But I used to buy D’Addario 48-10 or something like that, and they had a wound third option. It’s getting harder and harder to find that.

Hey thanks for tuning in Ali! I can definitely understand the apprehension with the Evertune. When in doubt, wait it out! Maybe sometime somewhere, down the road, you'll be in the same room with one, and maybe you can look it over and give it a strum, and then see where that takes ya. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Good question about the wound G! And it's one I can't answer. For me it was one of those things where the option came in the pack of Blue Steels I liked, and I tried the wound G and preferred it. But had it of not been an option, I may have never discovered it, and things in the world would still be just fine. I'm glad I did though!😎🎸

I'd argue that when you sink into a comfortable couch, the cushions conform to your body shape, and continue to do so with every movement or repositioning you make... Much like the Evertune (couch), and your strings (you). And during that first moment when you sit on the couch, you still contract and relax your muscles a bit and maybe stretch a little, to achieve maximum comfort while more greatly allowing the cushions to do their job. You settle in. I'd equate this to stretching my strings. I feel like I'm setting the Evertune up for greater success. But hey, that's just me!
@CTG-TV
@CTG-TV 2 года назад
@@RobArnoldWorld This is what it looks like with fixed bridges. The spring in the module regulate the tension continuously. If the string is unstretched, it will fall back into the second zone from the front stop. If not, the string is stretched. Honesty man, I think what we're hearing is my microphones being slightly out of sync. I know that sounds crazy, but I ended up losing my main mic about 2/3 thru the recording of the video. And so I had to use camera audio, and process the shit out of it to make it useable. And because my camera audio was recorded at 48k, and my mic audio at 44.1k, over the course of a 30 min video, the audio becomes slightly out of sync over time, and what we're hearing is exaggerated string buzz, that really isn't even an issue. Kudos for pointing it out though, and yes, it drives me crazy! 😝

from what I understand, sting gauge 9 would get you E standard, 10s would get you D, 11s C and and so on?
@RobArnoldWorld
@RobArnoldWorld 2 года назад
Not necessarily... I think gauges are more of a preference. For instance, I prefer 10's in E. If I come across a guitar in E with 9's, I'll over-shoot all of my bends. And this is because they're lighter, and offer less resistance. And you could use 10's for C, but they'd feel too floppy and thin. So a heavier gauge like 11's in more appropriate, but it's not necessarily a rule of thumb, which I think your question was leaning towards. It's all about what feels best for you, in whatever tuning you're in. 🎸
@Defekcija
@Defekcija 2 года назад
@@RobArnoldWorld That's good to know. I was worried that with an evertune i'd be stuck in one tuning forever, which your video proved false and gave me hope. So basically, you can get into zone 2 and tune your guitar as you wish depending on string gauge and a little fine tuning?
@RobArnoldWorld
@RobArnoldWorld 2 года назад
Absolutely! And it's not even about the string gauge. You can get into whatever tuning you want with ANY gauge strings... But then you'll want to determine how it feels and plays. Perhaps with whatever tuning you're going for, you'll find that a heavier or lighter gauge strings might feel better than whatever gauge/tuning combination you currently have. But you won't know until you get there. So determine what tuning you want to be in, set it up, play around on it, then make gauge adjustments from there based on what you think you'd like. But if you do change gauges, you'll then have to set it up again. But that's no big deal, and it should all be worth it in the end after you've come to a spot where everything feels and sounds great!
