You really take the term “One man band “ to another level. It’s very resourceful and really really well done. I don’t have a lot of money so it’s very difficult for me to even play music anymore but you are very inspiring and hopefully I can get back to it. Thanks Rob
If only writing a Rob Arnold guitar riff was that easy. Haha! Thanks man, really appreciate it! I started messing with recoding a little while ago. I also appreciate the transitions and sound effects in the video. 🙏
Awesome Martin! Happy to hear it! Please check out the rest of my songwriting and audio production tutorials playlist, as there's a ton of great stuff I think might help you out! 🎸
Best sim video you've ever done Rob. I few points that I liked about this video are just loved the drum sim. It mades things so much earlier when you have an idea for a riff. The riff that you put together really suited the drum sound and the bass tone was sick. Maybe the bass could of been tunrned up a bit to match the guitar. So please keep on making more video's like this. Really enjoyed watching this Rob.
Killer video as always Rob! It's refreshing to know that someone of your caliber records the way a lot of us do! Very Inspiring indeed. Keep sharing the knowledge brother. I'm finally working on my first solo EP that will be recorded this year by my good friend Snake from Skinlab . I'm nervous and excited all at the same time! 🤣. Cheers all. 🤘❤
Excellent video! Could you do a video on the basics of song structuring, chorus/verse/bridge/breakdown, their intentions and a typical structure. I've done this very thing to jam out riffs and come up with basic stuff but I'm horrible at putting this together to mean anything. Thanks for doing these!
Yo Nate - please check out my "Song Writing, Recording Tutorials, & More!", playlist! I think you'll find a ton of useful information in there! I have a video called, "How I COMBINE Riffs To Create SONGS!", that sounds like it might be just what you're looking for! Cheers! ru-vid.com/group/PLlBg61aZ3R9gcG2rHRZtkuwliUfpwIDZv
Cool video. Sounds brutal 😃👍 I haven’t made the jump to this sim stuff, but when I do, it’s nice to know you got my back and can put me on the path 😃 Have a great week!
Great video Rob I just started really getting into this kind of stuff and it's a lot of fun and not as difficult as one might think. The hardest part id deciding which plugins you really want because the options are endless. I have the archetype Gojira plugin for my guitar ton and have GGD drums but have not messed with them too much. I would love to see more videos like this going more in depth with the production and mixing of a track!
Awesome Jake! I know you'll have fun learning and playing with that stuff. Make sure you check out more audio production videos from my Song Writing, Recording Tutorials, & More playlist! ru-vid.com/group/PLlBg61aZ3R9gcG2rHRZtkuwliUfpwIDZv
Ok, I love content like this, your page is my fav, but when you’re like “it’s super simple” I’m like…c’mon dude!!! Lmao! Looks hard as hell! I wanna see more of these!
Haha sorry man! It's tough to make these vids because EVERYONE is at a different skill level, and everyone has different gear, and different aspirations, etc. So I try my best to explain principles that can be applied to most scenarios.
@@RobArnoldWorld I totally respect that! I wanna learn more about basic recording at home, and you seem to break it down very well. I genuinely hope u make more of these. You’re a great teacher
@@BobbyButterfield I really appreciate that man!👊 Have you checked out my recording tutorials playlist? ru-vid.com/group/PLlBg61aZ3R9gcG2rHRZtkuwliUfpwIDZv
This reminds me of another video idea for you. How about a guide to modifying your guitars to one knob or one pickup. I’ve noticed you modded the one in this video.
ESP does it for me by request there at the shop! I've actually never done one myself! haha They actually put some kind of wooden plug in that blocks the hole, from the inside of the electronics cavity.
Dang! That amp sim sounds pretty good! A long way from the pocket rocket i sported as a wee lad. Great vid rob!! 🤘 Also, protools does a cool thing now where you drag and audio clip to an instrument/midi track, itll convert the clip into midi notes. Its a little squirrelly but can be useful for making midi bass or string parts, etc. But i think it only works if you already have melodyne installed.
Great riffs and tones, as always... Hey Rob, have you played around with Positive Grid Spark amps yet? Would love to see you come up with some sick tones! Great work on Magnitude, me and my son love it! He is 1 year old btw lol
@@RobArnoldWorld Thank you for replying, means a lot! Got a Spark40 all kinds of amps and effects, and a tone cloud to share and download tones from other users... What a time to be alive! 🤘
Hey Rob, I hope you don’t mind, I often have questions about a lot of your knowledge and expertise. One that’s been wracking my head is what do you use to do record yourself with such high quality sound? Like a specific camera? Your computer, or like a GoPro? I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question.
So do you mean specifically how I record my voice? I use a Rode Go Wireless mic! You can find it on my gear list. Check it out! imp.i114863.net/RobsGearList And then I use my DAW (Pro Tools) to actually record the audio.
This was an great tutorial Rob. Im going to check those plug ins out as i just got a new macbook. It came with prologic still learning how to set it all up. How do you plug your guitar into the laptop to record?
Cool! You need an interface to hook your guitar up to a computer. I recommend starting here, with a great article on the topic from Sweetwater: imp.i114863.net/interfacebuyersguide You can get started with something like the Focusrite stuff for under a hundred bucks! Good luck bro!🎸
Got a Question for you. I like your Riffs and everything from Chimaira. So i was wondering if you care about what Key you are in when you are creating Riffs? Or are you creating more or less just something and look afterwards what/where the lead guitar could fit in? Because, i think when you want to create some lead Stuff for it i think its necessary to know what would fit for it. I am not sure if i would limit myself with this kind of mindset. Because i think - maybe i am wrong - for this type of metal its not absolutely necessary to have a real key.
I think that heavy metal is a byproduct of punk rock, and the punk rock mentality... Rebellious, unhinged, no rules, etc. Guys with zero skill, but loads of energy, attitude, and character, can be successful. Therefor, for me personally, I just play what sounds good (to me). I have no formal training in theory or anything like that. If I think about a riff or songs key, I simply associate it with whatever tuning I'm in. So if I'm in drop C, and most heavy metal riffing is based around chugging on the open low string, I know that the key of that riff is C. I do think changing keys is very important in great song writing, but again, when I'm writing, I'm thinking more about what sounds good, and not at all about theory. I hope that answers your question!🤘
How do you like the original mh-1000 evertune vs your newer ltd’s? Same build quality? Evertune better these days? I think those original mh-1000et’s are from 2014-2016
Good eye! The MH-1000 in this vid is from 2014ish. The build quality is fantastic, although I've never liked the MH's as much as the M's. I can't exactly put my finger on why, but the sound (acoustically) and playability of the M's is just better and more comfortable to me.
Sometimes to add what I call "fake bass" I will record a track(no distortion or effects)on guitar, I just play it like it's a bass, and then use my DAW to drop the pitch a full octave. A little eq tweaking(removing some mids and highs) and it actually doesn't sound too bad for an improvised bass track.
That riff melody sounds like a Mexican catholic praying song very melancholic they sing at funerals mostly old women's sing it, ppl gather every week to pray the deceased during the next 9 following weeks...
@@RobArnoldWorld it really is. Even the DI tone itself sounds great before any processing. The amplification stage has a very Neural DSP/Darkglass vibe. It's very modern sounding, but it's easy enough to use the DI and pair it with an Ampeg plugin of some sort if you're looking for a more traditional metal bass tone.
wow... great video for beginners but if you are a beginner to this, but can play guitar: SKIP the midi bass and just buy a cheap bass and learn how to write basslines that are simple, but actually have feel. Trust me, i've come from recording like this and it will turn out better in the end. And quicker! lol
