The Duncan sounds incedible through your rig, definatly keep it in. Always nice to have some tonal varriety in the arsenal for the next (hopefully Chimaira 🤞) project. Very wholesome ending too with your kid!

I ordered the lefty version of that guitar almost 18 months ago. It was finally delivered just this morning. So far I’m loving it. Looks great and plays beautifully. And great to know that the esteemed Rob Arnold has the same guitar as me 😎🤘

Haven't heard a single person complain about any '87 model yet. I'm pretty sure they came out in 2020 as an anniversary series. The sales have been good enough to continue building them apparently? I grabbed an '87 Eclipse NT in pearl white from the first batch Sweetwater recieved. It was built in December of 2019. Being an Indonesian model the switch and jack were really cheap and the dime sized pots weren't cutting it either. After these upgrades and a treble bleed curcuit, it's way better.

I agree on the Duncan, keep it in! All the components live well together as is in that one 🤘🤘

"Rob's first shred! Rob's first shred" 😂 I see what you did there 😉. Very fitting piece with The Flame, for such an 80's looking shredder. I'm not sure if the Duncan Distortion is a ceramic magnet version of the JB. I've always kinda put the Distortion as closer to the 81 than a JB is.

Had a kramer pacer series years ago and the stock pickup was rusty af so swapped it out for a duncan distortion,killer pickup rob

I got the all gold version last year. Actually have a second one, the first one the ply in the neck started splitting. Replacement has been rock solid.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s and love retro from that era. But that guitar? 😬 To each it’s own. 😆 I do understand how kids influence things. Should’ve had him unbox it with you. Ooopps. Didnt see the end. Lol. Awesome man!!!

been eyeballing the dark blue one and realllllly want it...the fact it has a Floyd 1000 and a single pot like your ra600 makes me happy. Alexi Laiho, Alan Ashby, Jeff Ling, You,a nd a few others made me a believer in 1 pickup. Esp even put a coil split on the '87s

Both Duncan Distortion and EMG 81 sound good. Try a Duncan Invader for drop C. It has insane output, so you don't need a boost pedal to get the peavey tight.

The 81 was maybe tighter on the low end, but I like them both. Sounded killer as aways.

I'm a lifetime EMG guy, though whenever I get a new guitar I always really dig the passive, until i go back to EMG and there it is. Home. 🤘

That's a beautiful guitar. I had a BC Rich back in the day that looked that kind of paint design. so old school thrash looking.

The Seymour Duncan is brighter and more tight. Where the emg is more saturated and has more low end. I have guitars with both and love both. Can’t choose which is better lol.

Sounds killer Rob, you fucking rule brother! All my axes have Duncan distortions in them, except for my ESP E-ll Eclipse. Love them!

Saw you whip this guitar out at the Agora. So happy to see a full on video for it! What a beaut. You all sounded so incredibly tight at the agora. As a 20+ year fan (I’ve seen and opened for you guys a ton), I can confidently say that was the tightest y’all ever sounded. The production was so top notch as well. Hope we can look forward to more reunion shows down the road.

Not surprised you like the duncan distortion Rob. You like the Jb, and the distortion is literally the same pickup wind as the jb, except with a double sized ceramic magnet instead of the alnico 5 in the jb. The result is a tighter lowend than the jb, more akin to the 81, albeit quite a bit fatter.

What a finish! Reminds me of one of the first guitars I ever saw in a guitar shop as a kid! lol

I have a Jackson Soloist Red Mecury Crackle when my son saw it the first time, he said this guitar looks sick dad.. 😊 Usualy, he doesnt really cares about my guitars...

I actually swapped a SH6 for an 81 like a month ago. Not that I didn't like the SH6, I just needed a passive for a guitar that has a push/push knob but no pickups for quite some time now. EMG's were the only pickups that had not sky rocketed pricewise so I decided to buy this and equip the guitar that already had no split with it. They're actually quite similar I think, not differents enough to jusitfy switching, I really love both !

Nice touch with the surprising your son footage at the end! I always have my boys around for unboxings and for some reasons they like the LTD's / ESP's the most (even though my oldest rocks a Solar).

I take it all the crackles look different cuz yours looks way cooler than the one on the site lol. And to me the Duncan Distortion is the closest Duncan makes to an 81, so that makes sense you dig it. I’ve always been a fan of the 85 in the bridge, saw Jon Donias and Adam D do that waaay back in the day. I always use an overdrive tho. Just saw the end. That was so cool man. lil Rob seems like a cool dude. Congrats dad!

That's a pretty sweet looking guitar. The first guitar I ever saw with the crackle finish is the one I used in a bunch of my videos the schecter balsac (gwar's guitar player) love the Duncan pick up in that guitar too sounds pretty sick

Seems like the Duncan has more of an attacky thud for the palm muting. Just installed a dime bucker and jazz pickup on my new schecter and I think they sound amazing. Still love my ltd with the emgs tho. But my schecter sounds more alive.

So crackle finishes are back. Ironic bc that was bling for beginner metal guitars back in the day. You could spot Arias a mile away.

M1 are neck through and Mirage are bolt ons I believe, as well as the neck pickup .

Love the guitar! Did you start guitar with a "gear shifter" trem system? I'm finding it difficult to move to it from using evertune. The right hand technique is changing. Any tips?

Ive tried many actives and just cant get along with them, i love that chewiness of passives.

The EMG is so much more Than the Seymour. The Seymour doesn't sound like Rob Arnolds Chimaira. It's different.

I always enjoy your videos. The guitar is sweet and my personal preference would be EMG (it's part of your signature tone). IMO the Duncan sounds ok but would overhaul it.. ESP+EMG=OMG

Something else that’s probably throwing you - your RAs are 24.75”, and the Mirage is 25.5” - I’ve got both scale length & the difference is subtle but noticeable

The Distortion and 81 are so similar in my experience. Such a great looking guitar. At what point does the EII and ESP stuff just become pointless? LTD has such a pro feel now.

Maybe after the honeymoon phase, you'll realize you want the 81 in the bridge lol. Happened to me a lot where I think a guitar is perfect as is, then I need to swap the pickup after that honeymoon phase wears off. I will say I slighty preferred the 81 because it has *that* sound. Also that ending bit made me smile so much

I love the look of these models, but the only thing that puts me off is the 22 frets. I've got so used to a 24 fret neck that 22 just feels limited.

If it isn’t broken then don’t fix it. Duncan distortion pickups sound great. The Duncan sounds like it has more girth to it
